I'm not bothered by advertising in games like sports or GTA where it's realistic. But it's scary how easily we accept having our minds constantly blasted by intellectual littering, so I'm still kind of negative.

I don't mind banner ads in Starcraft or billboards in, say, GTA. However, games which have world immersion as part of their selling point I expect to be ad-free.

some of the questions are ambiguous. ultimately all advertising can be made unobtrusive - in these cases, i of course don't mind it. If you're playing a game that instigates a pop-up in front of your game, then that will be obtrusive regardless of the genre. advertising done right is never a problem, and advertising should always be done right. The questions did not make a distinction between the two types of advertising. the banner in starcraft is not a problem. the banner at the top of teamliquid is not a problem. having a strategically placed coke can [to me] is not a problem. Having a popup, or an additional screen specifically for advertising that you have to navigate through to get to the next stage in the action you're trying to take, is a problem.

I'm ok with ads on television; alltough I will always zap away when they occur, I understand that they cheapen the game. If I were to play a game where the ad would interrupt my gameplay or even ask my attention in a non-gameplay-way, I will hate it. However, if they have a big coca-cola sign in the middle of python, I'm ok with it. If in monkey island X I were to obtain a can of holy coca cola, I would be ok with it, too. I couldn't express this opinion in the survey. common issue with surveys unfortunately. that's why the method of my thesis will be discourse analysis

I would welcome any amount of advertising in video games if it were to make the games available for free. ^No, I do not want to micromanage clicking the "x" on pop up boxes in addition to playing Starcraft 2

Is there a competitor which doesn't feature these types of ads? Because I really, really hate endorsing the software just on principle.
