I find that when hovering for long periods of time I get tired a lot quicker, so I try to only hover when I need to.

I think it's preference based, I was pretty good at jacks in stepmania. And I never hovered, but some guys who were at equal skill/higher hovered so I dunno. But streaming in osu is nothing like doing jacks in stepmania cus you basically tense up your whole arm so that you can get that super fast thing going on. In osu you just trill as fast as you can with your fingers, and I don't find tensing up my hand or any part of that to help me in terms of going faster.

Well I find hovering gives me the ability to trill a bit faster, at the expensive of having less endurance over some time. Generally it wont cause problems in 1 song, but I may not be able to play fast songs for as long as I might without having hovered.
Either way, IMO it comes down to personal preference, as you said.

It happens. Combo multipliers make a large difference in Osu, and the grade is based solely on your accuracy, so if you have a higher accuracy with a lower combo, you end up in a situation like that.

The premise of most games are pretty simple, you can take SC2 and say "Well don't you just build an army and kill your opponent...? I mean that sounds kinda lame...".
Anyways no one has any obligation to make or convince you to play this game if they don't know you personally. Up to you to give it a try and then see if it's anything for you. ^_^

You the cursor is your mouse, and you either click the mouse buttons, or use Z/X instead, and you have to both move the mouse over the circle, and click at the right time. It's a really hard game to pick up (unless you just have a talent).
Generally people don't just use 1 button, because it's hard to hit things that quickly, so they alternate between 2.

The cursor is your mouse, and yes you press either the mouse buttons or keyboard buttons to hit the circles.
That's it.

A few people are mouse-only, some use z/x. I use left/x.

I use z/x but I'm pretty bad. Feels the most natural to me.

Is it my idea or disabling mouse acceleration doesn't work for me?
I tried to play some maps with that setting turned off and I have big problems trying to pass spinners and big jumps now I guess I'll have to adapt...

So has anyone picked up any micro skills from getting good at this game? I find it really challenging, and have kinda bad micro at SC2 and was wondering if its worth sinking time into this game
