Only way that cheating won't start to have more of an impact on the game will be to start taking as much attention away from ranking as possible. I can imagine it being so disappointing for actual high ranking players to have such a joke made of their effort. Hopefully osu!next has some features to make non-ranked play a bigger part of the core game since the ranking process doesn't seem likely to improve either (beatmap curators please). Peppy seems smart enough not to try and go aggressive with anti-cheat efforts at least. | ||

Peppy seems smart enough not to try and go aggressive with anti-cheat efforts at least. osu already has some of the most invasive anti-cheat stuff of any game that i play.. at least that which is public knowledge. Stuff like recording every process open on your computer (including some easily viewable info like the name of open webpages, skype username etc) and taking+sending a screenshot on your PC every time you log in. The amount of people cheating and the effort put into cheating in a single player game is really a shame. There's no reason for it other than social manipulation --------------- pretty damn beautiful play (huge difficulty spike at 1:45) | ||

I doubt the anti-cheat will change much from now on though, that is what I mean by non-aggressive. I don't think it's just social manipulation though. Some people are just delusional and will tell themselves it means something, some people just want to fuck with the game as a whole. Cheating begets cheating though since once people see other cases of cheating they will start to believe they are just levelling the field by doing it themselves etc. I would be in favour of just getting rid of ranks altogether tbh, without those it is hard to care that other people are cheating. I'd like to see speed, aim, and accuracy seperated to replace star rating to give people a clearer idea of individual progress, and curating would make sifting through graveyard MUCH easier. Those kinds of moves to make it easier to judge your progress without using a rank which forces comparison to other players. | ||

3 steps forward, 2 steps back sometimes i'l believe. osu is a pretty demanding mental and physical game and day to day variance can be quite large, you can't accurately judge skill improvements by looking at small slices of time. It helps if you record stuff all of the time and you can look back over weeks and months to see progressively worse skill | ||

------ open this at unscaled resolution: http://i.imgur.com/OpyQtLA.png you can actually see the circles as a series of lines instead of a smooth continuous line because of the tablet polling rate lol a 1000hz mouse would not give a perfectly smooth line, but it would have ~7.3x more data points. | ||
