I finally got some good result today too. I already had multiple 99% acc scores from like 2 months ago with only one miss, but i finally got it :D Gave me 231 pp, so not bad. And 4 100's out of 5 were sliders >.> So dumb.

As you might be able to hear, I'm not 100% comfortable at 240bpm yet. And most of the 100's were unforced errors. This result though, to me, certainly is a sign that I'm on the right track atm. Also, i went all the way to rank 849, yay. (and i hope this isnt removed, dt please help!)

I think i narrowed down some of my issues to having difficulties reading streams in particular (if i manually select an AR for every map, my hands freeze up a lot less) - should i just practice that with very low and high AR, or what else should i do?
just HITTING streams, and it makes me wonder a lot what kind of practice is actually required to start thinking like that, not to be on the same level but to be able to play maps worth even 150pp without worrying about every stream coming up
i guess a lot of people have the same feelings about aim, and i removed that almost entirely by just practicing it a lot in various ways and practicing it without using left hand, but i don't particularly enjoy practicing streams so i've never done it day after day for a long period of time like i have with aim (like yesterday, i just threw up full area + fullscreen on tablet, put webcam on my hand and played for over an hour straight on stuff like foughten field endsane dt and big black with relax)
I don't know exactly, but i remember when i first starting streaming consciously, I just decided to hit every note in a stream when it came. I, of course, failed horribly, but i slowly understood how streaming worked in general. I still suck at it, but at least streaming in itself is normal to me. My personal experience is that due to avoiding streaming, the difference in ability between the 2 fingers will increase, creating a non-practice circle Like I've said many times before, i feel the key to learning streaming is to start slow, and push yourself (both in terms of od and speed). Playing at different ar's may help, i'm not sure. Playing a wide range of ar's is always good, imo. Maybe just download all angelhoney maps and play them at least once a day or something. Especially his slower maps are really good. http://osu.ppy.sh/s/15709 Maps like this one have reasonably easy stream, but at quite low ar. Also, the map isn't really connected to the music at some places, so you really have to read well, to play it well.
There's this one map (4.34 star) called Klippa - Expansion Port
it has regular old ar9 170bpm streams - od9, but it doesn't really matter that much
it starts/ends in a few awkward ways that forces you to use both fingers and for over a year i've been unable to play it without dropping combo, i don't actually have an FC on it yet (i could get one if i tried at a good time) - when i'm tired though, i drop combo like five times on it. I can't do that stuff automatically at all so if i'm not super focused i just drop constantly on it. The map is only worth 87pp for 95% but i can't do it right now

it doesn't make me mad because of not being able to do that one particular map properly, it just exposes a really obvious and fatal issue with how i deal with hitting stuff with 2 fingers. I obviously need to fix it if i want to go like 1k ranking without specializing in niche maps like drop - granat hdhr etc
That video was before i understood that circles were always in time with beats, lol (at 60bpm mapped to whole beat, there is one circle exactly every 1 second apart, they can't be 0.8 or 1.2 seconds apart for example)
My run of the song Cyro posted earlier, hopefully it doesn't get taken down this time. Still sloppy but I feel like that's a song I probably couldn't do even a week or two ago.

I have a question about your skin though; when you hit a circle, there is some afterglow. At some parts of the vid i looked at the afterglow more than the coming circles. Have you considered removing the afterglow? Or do you like it?

Hmm, well it's not like I don't notice it, but I don't think it distracts me at all, at least not consciously. I kinda just went and downloaded the first simplistic skin with a glowing ball that I could find without considering other features. I've been wanting to mess around with skins for a while so I may go in and decrease/remove the afterglow and see how I like it.

This is actually a big point because even if you don't realize it, things can certainly make it harder to read. Hell, just making backgrounds black made a huge difference in my skill, and yet I would never have said backgrounds consciously distracted me.
I agree with Bobbias. It's not so much you should get rid of them, it's more that doing nothing may lead to a missed opportunity of improving without much effort. BG is indeed a good example of that; another would be accepting the default skin compared to using skin to make things as comfortable as possible. Some people even hide the healthbar. Just compare the 2 and decide what's best for you
I just wanted to point out that sometimes you don't notice the impact something has until you change it.
Tweaking things can sometimes help you find a more optimal setup that works better for you. Of course, not every change will help, but I also feel that often just the act of trying something new out can help you improve too. But all I really wanted to point out is that small things can have bigger effects than you'd expect.
Then again, there are always those people who are completely unaffected by those sort of things.
So after spending a good 10 minutes looking through my skin, I figured out the afterglow effect was actually from the Hit Lighting effect in the options menu. It is now disabled!
And i just read owc registration phase has started. I haven't improved enough to be good enough unfortunately, dutch #12 doesnt cut it TT. But i'll do my best for next year. I think our team is pretty decent this year, if everyone actually participates. happystick, kyshiro, jackylam and big_child are pretty darn good. Anyone else going to follow owc?

Hard to say. I've only played about an hour today, but I did feel like I was able to read close star/crossing patterns a bit better. However, there could be a number of reasons for that, and it's not like I'm suddenly beating/FC'ing songs I couldn't do before. I'm sure it isn't hurting my play though and I don't really miss it, so I'm gonna keep it off.
And for the owc, I'm actually kinda excited. I enjoyed watching some of the vods of last years event, so I'll definitely try to catch at least the later stages of the tournament live this time around.
