Yeah, except that all the good mappers map the music we don't like lol. If it means more garbage maps by mappers who honestly don't know a thing bout how to map things properly, I'd rather stick with music I'm not a fan of, but good maps, rather than be buried under a mountain of garbage maps of songs I genuinely like. Somehow I feel like PROPERLY mapping a good rap song, or a good metal/rock song would be far harder than people expect, because you have so many options for complex patterns.
Yeah that's true, rock in particular isn't usually well suited for this kind of game. Rap and electronic music can be mapped well, but it does seem that most of the good mappers work on anime and videogame songs. I can enjoy some of the kpop songs, and I really appreciate how well they're mapped. I wish the community could attract or cultivate good mappers for less niche genres!
Rap/hip hop music can be mapped fairly creatively with good clap patterns.
The problem is basically that the majority of the community is from China/Japan/Korea/Taiwan and they just map Asian music, which ultimately attracts more players from Europe/North America/etc that like anime music and such.
If you're looking for good beatmaps that aren't all Vocaloid/anime/Touhou stuff I highly recommend Lesjuh's beatmaps, he's a really good mapper with creative hitsounding and he maps mostly English songs.

I'd say you hit the nail on the head. I really wish I was any good at mapping, because I would go out and purposely look for good rap or metal or electronic stuff that isn't well represented.
I tried my hand at mapping Zeds Dead ft. Omar Linx - Out For Blood, but the rapping is not well synced too the beat, and has some awkward timing, so it's very difficult to follow.
******* FINALLY! ._. Another song I've been wanting to pass for months, but been unable to. Those damn fast shifts between single notes and tri-streams and back always made me fail, but not tonight! *moahahahaha*
Attempting to learn Taiko, yay The map is easy and my accuracy sucks a ton because my hands are super-tired, but I'm still happy I managed to do this in ~5 tries
Damn this game really change my tastes in music, before playing osu! I was usually listening to metal or rock and now I listen to touhou, nightcore and japenese pop songs... I think I should stop to play before I become asian ^^

kufufufu... You've already reached the point of no return.

Once I reach the smallest flashlight-setting (200+ combo) I always get way too nervous and mess up my accuracy horribly orz I really need to start trusting my reflexes more, I always click too early because I'm afraid I misread the pattern because of the limited vision and want that "extra time" to adjust...
