ACOG is kinda funny, @ midrange you can pretty much use it like the FAL but the sway you get from getting hit while scope is seriously starting to piss me off missed so many fucking quickscopes because of it
Yeah I use ACOG on my runner class Intervention. I think people just don't give it enough of a chance. It can be a great scope at all but the longest of ranges.
Although nowadays when I'm playing Ground War I run a Thermal scope on my Inter, just because only about 1% of the core population runs Cold Blooded, and the other 99% light up like a Christmas Tree when I'm hard scoping ^_^

I seriously don't understand what's with the AR hate, but then stating that a LMG is ok... blows my mind.
LMGs have recoil and terrible hipfire AR rape anything in your screen without trying
the hate with AR is that they do better in areas in which they shouldn't be doing better medium-close combat SMGs should win hands down yet AR can compete quite easily and often win vs SMGs the almost non-existent recoil makes it very easy to long range people, which defeats the purpose of using a sniper rifle
From all the killcams I've watched, I haven't noticed LMGs having any recoil, but then again, I haven't played with one so I might be wrong. Although, at close range, you can just hold down your left mouse button and reap the benefits of an extremely large magazine. I've also been killed with SMGs across the map so much(while sniping no less), it's not even funny.
As far as assault rifles making sniper rifles obsolete, it's more of a problem with the maps than anything else. Even Wasteland has a lot of tight areas... sort of. The tanks and cars and stuff really limit the options for positioning. They also suffer from not having any really large distances - Derail/Wasteland being the best sniper maps imo, are still pretty short when it comes to it. You're just forced to be close/semi close to your opponents most of the time - and in those circumstances 1887 Akimbo trumps all.

there is recoil, it's not as bad as CoD4/5 but it's much worse than AR for the same result like I said, LMG hipfire is bad. cross hair is far too big and unless your enemy is completely oblivious to the fact you're stupidly spending 1/4 of your mag hipfiring when you could just aim down and kill him clean, he'll get initiative and kill you before you even get a hit marker. hipfire+long spray = crazy ass recoil. I agree that pretty much any weapon but SR need a nerf as to range and damage diminishing returns they suffer from range. it's pretty ridiculous

the maps are too small to benefit a sniper, and when they could, there are way too many flanks/nearby rushing points to camp like a sniper would I think Afghan is the best sniper map, but that's cause I'm fairly successful on it, so idk.
i really like s&d in this game, but i just wish that the rounds were slightly longer. i think 3.5 minutes would be ideal. i've been meeting all the HC S&D players i gamed with regularly in cod4 though, so it's been awesome

I'm REALLY starting to love AUG Holo+Grip <3 played a few TDMs and spawn pushing on Derail with it is so evil haha. but ACOG on LMGs are such a bad idea thank god I only did it for heartbeat sensor (which I won't use anyway)
