I'm deciding between Caldari, Amarr, and Gallente. From what I gather on this thread, Gallente isn't the greatest choice if I want to pvp while Caldari falls off during the later stages of the game. I'm probably mainly going to be playing with a small group of friends doing a mix of pvp/pve and just generally messing around. Also, I'd hopefully like to join your fleets at some point haha =p. I guess I just need some general advice / an overview of the races. I've tried searching other forums and such, but people have such wildy varied and emotionally charged opinions and many threads are from 2-4 years back so the information may be very outdated. Thank you very much for your help.

Well like you said, Gallente isnt a great choice for what we like to do. Saying Caldari falls off the later stages of the game is a pretty incorrect statement too, this game isn't really about constantly progressing to bigger ships, you go up a few sizes to advanced cruisers, battlecruisers and potentially battleships. Aspiring for larger ships isnt really the best idea, although you can have fun with carriers etc. Caldari is a great choice, simply for 2 reasons: Drake and Tengu. The drake is probably the best ship for the money in the game, it takes about 3 months to have good skills with it. The advantage of the drake is multipronged.. for one it has great passive shield regen and therefore during a big fight you can simply warp out and in a matter of moments you can warp back in with shields recharged. They also have very long range being as they are missile boats (although in most pvp situations you want to be close enough to hold point on the target). Another great advantage of the drake is that you can PVE in it as well. You can do low sec missions, or just about any site, and pay for your game time etc during non pvp activities. The natural evolution to the drake is the Tengu, which takes a little more skill to fly but is an absolute monster. More speed, range, tank and dps then a drake, it is a pure beast. Amarr are what I fly on my main pvp account. I mean LAZERS BRO. Amarr ships setup in our fleets are shield tanked (like all our stuff) and not quite as tanky as a drake. They have some minor advantages in the dps and drone department, but they lack the tank and range of a drake. Amarr has an advantage of multiple ships to fly though, where as caldari you are gona fly drake or tengu. Amarr has sniper advanced cruisers (like zealot), sick recon in the Curse, medium sized snipers in the oracle. You can't really PVE in most amarr ships in low sec without cross training armor skills, so unless you have another account that can fly a drake or something to make money, it will be hard with Amarr only. That's just a quick 2 cents approach.

At least I've been able to keep my que full. Finishing cane pre-reqs in 6 days. Finishing drake about a month after that.

Thank you very much for your help. An intelligent post from someone not in the corp? In my eve thread? What is this world coming to :s Gallente is useful in certain playstyles, just not ours. I can't really elaborate more as to what types of playstyles it is useful in as our playstyle is the only one I know well. Caldari is pretty amazing, but only for the drake and the tengu (well I suppose the falcon too). Of course once you have the drake or tengu you don't need anything else, as they are two of the best ships in the game. Amarr has lasers. Other than that a lot of their ships are really good. If you want to do a giant armor blob the abbadon is amazing. If you want to do small gang shield stuff the zealot is amazing, the arbitrator is great, the harb does well, the oracle is pretty beast. They also have a great recon in the form of the curse. I personally like minny, but if thats not your style its completely fine.

What I'm hearing from this is that you are getting mad about people undocking the noctis and just zooming off the undock waiting for a missioner to call salvage. I dont see how this could make you angry. If it does though, I have no problems with you suicide ganking them in their noctii until they get the point. If you don't want to spend the money on this though, just ignore it. I can tell them its a bad idea to just stay undocked doing nothing (and I have), but I'm not going to enforce it (in high sec).
