You act like intel is not important in a fight, its one of the most important things. Covops can also do other very useful things in fights like combat probing and fleet warping ontop of the enemy or making spots for sniper fleets to warp to, they can do alot of different things. More than once i can remember escaping massive gate camps in nullsec by having probers scan wormhole chains that led directly to highsec or lowsec. Here is a quote from a very experienced eve player which relates directly to this. "pro scouts/scanners are like the only skill in eve outside of fcing" - Anonymous Pro EVE Player

I'm strongly considering trying out EVE after seeing some clips on youtube. Quick question: In the OP, it talked about how each race affects what kinds of ship you can get, but I remember reading somewhere that picking your race does matter at all. So considering that the OP was posted 2009, is the statement on race there still correct or has it been changed?

It haven't changed. You can still crosstrain to another race.

How about you give me some isk and I'll give it back + a little bit more in a week or so.

Having a covops alt on field that you can alt tab to = bloody useful. Can probe isolated ships, give good warpins, etc.
Only flying covops and not joining in = meh, you get bored quick.

Theres also an extension to covert ops, recon ships, that are both cloaky and very useful in combat, might want to check that out.

yeah earlier when i asked i wasn't talking about how they weren't useful, as i can see how they are extraordinarily useful, but rather if they engage in combat because i figured i could get bored after i probe someone down and sit there until the fight is over.
Turpinos, do recon ships have weaker probing (or scanning?) than dedicated covert ops ships?

Is there still room for newbies to join you guys? If so I could take an invite to give someone their free month in exchange for mentoring and invite

Dedicated covops ships have no other purpose than to probe and be invisible.
So yes they should be better than recon ships, which have other main purposes.
@above please read the OP's instructions.

Thank you I wasn't sure if it was recent.

Recon ships dont have the same probing bonuses that covops have. Thats why people usually have alts that fly covops (main in combat ship). You can still probe in recons (and in t3s too) but that usually comes with your ship being less efficient in pvp and more time to narrow a sig down due to lower probing bonuses.
(So you either get 1 char with a t3 that can do everything and is not too good, or get an alt so you have a very good probing ship and a very good pvp ship)
Probing bonuses are limited to t1 probing frigs, covops and t3s. Use of the covops cloak (the good one) is limited to covops, stealth bombers, and force recons (combat recons cant)

Edit: fail, was on a wrong page and thought it was the newest
Ok since I already got this post I might as well put it to use. Is someone missining for republic fleet? I need about 0,65 standing to get 8+ so I can finally set up jump clones to roam null. If someone is actually doing missions for rf (or could do for me) and share standings with me that would be awesome. Obviously would pay for LP and stuff. Just want to know if we got someone who's doing so
