Flying a Rifter / Merlin certainly isn't the most exciting thing in the world, but it's part of the learning process. It's also a necessity. So you until you have put your time in (combined training + confirming you're not a HERP DERP pilot) you'll play hero tackle. Like I am. :p
Besides, if we weren't around, Kwark wouldn't have anyone to sacrifice to save himself. Think of yourself as part of the greater good.
The greater good I can deal with, but occasionally a bit of excitement is needed to keep me from going insane and putting my fist through the part of my screen EveMon covers.
And yes, you did manage to read a bit more succesfully than others that I was referencing fleet scenarios, as opposed to Frigate duels.

The guy knew my minimum requirements for flying the cane. He then asked me if I wanted him in a cane, knowing that I wouldn't let him if I knew his skills and knowing that I didn't know if he could or not. If I actually trusted corp members then I'd enter into battle with a ship that was simply incapable of doing what I expected it to be able to do and would be basing my decisions on incorrect assumptions. Tricking the FC into letting your subpar ship into an op is going to fuck him over.
So people know for future reference, when you want to fleet into my op and can fly X and Y but know you don't have the skills for Z follow the below guide.
Saying "I can fly X and Y, which would you like?" = fine Saying "I can fly X, Y and Z pretty badly because I'm missing these skills, which would you like?" = fine Saying "I can fly X, Y and Z, which would you like?" = not fine

I actually thought this might be the case when I first joined up, but flying a Rifter is really fucking exciting. When there's a big battle and you've got 30 drones chasing you while trying to maintain a scram on a high-value target and risking dying to 1 shot from any enemy that is paying attention, you feel like a fucking hero when your target dies and you just zoom on out of there with a giant trail of drones as you laugh maniacally.
In small engagements, killing anything depends almost entirely on landing those scrams. Moving around in a big slow BC and CTRL-click + F1'ing shit (after like 30 second lock rofl) seems boring in comparison. Would you rather make gray bars red or be a fucking hero?

Rifters: making high-value targets crap their pants.

@JingleHell : Take Cruiser / Frigate / BC / Whatever on a solo roam. Form your own fleet. Those are KWARK'S minimum requirements. If people choose to make their own or adopt his, that's up to them. Make your own fleet, etc. etc. I'm sure you can find something.
@Kwark : Well it's your fault for being good at FC. :p You make everyone else look bad.
@Def : I fucking love flying my rifter. I don't even care if I fly around in a hurricane or not. Haha. I've always called my rifter a hero. I don't think it's necessarily the most exciting thing in EVE, but it's REALLY fun. I'm getting the hurricane teched up so that when we either...
a) "We just need ONE more non-frigate to be safe..." b) We recruit the big group of new guys in the thread. Seen the meme, "Suddenly, BANANAS" Well It's gonna be Rifters. Lol. c) When I'm max Scimi/Basi I'm not gonna be allowed to fly my Hurricane anyways.
Heck, when we went after Suli, popping EWAR drones made me feel like a boss. Don't worry, DRAEKS, I'll save you from evil EWAR.
I wish I WASNT in a Rifter when 3 more hurricanes landed on me. Lol

Your options are fly with kwark under his rules(which youre bored doing), dont fly with kwark, join corp that lets you have fun.
Pretty straight forward.

Oh no, you're getting me all wrong. I have a blast in the corp. Usually by listening to KwarK in TS. The guy could have a comedy show. And sometimes I don't mind tackling. It's just that I like to think about doing something resembling damage on a primary target in terms shorter than the couple of months I am away from properly flying a T2 drake (which, being Caldari, are skills I really kind of need anyway.)

Ok so youre fine in your merlin? The problem was? If you want to deal 'real damage' its going to take a while thats how eve is.

I'm fine as support sometimes, but it gets boring occasionally. Probably because I have less than no luck about being online when it's not just 2-3 frigs that all have point, and 2-3 BCs crushing a single target real quick.
If I got into one of the bigger fights, where an MSE Merlin could actually stand out a little, that'd be wicked.

Hey I am looking to start playing eve and I asked around in the scbw channel in game but there didn't seem to be any mentors from TL in there. So I was wondering if anyone want to be my mentor. Thanks in advance and I look forward to flying with TL in eve.

EDIT: actually that might be outdated. But the point stands that this is a type of question that you should really be figuring out for yourself.

(Also next time you have a simple question that needs awnsering ask in the rookie help).

Try Caracal? We used to let Minnie pilots fly Ruptures instead of Rifters early as long as they had either t2 drones or t2 guns (must be one of them). This was long ago though, don't know if we still follow this.

is there a racial census of the % of eve players belonging to each faction?

I don't recall there being any official numbers but the 2010 Q4 Report (PDF) suggests that Caldari ships are the most popular.
I'd say Minmatar/Amarr are about equal and Gallente the least flown, but who knows

Still pondering about joining the Hatchery, currently living in Amarr space with terrible (but above -5) standings with Gallente and Minnies which might make mission running / taxes tricky. Although I could keep all my mission boats at the nearest Amarr or Caldari border and mission there when I need to.
I can fly a Drake fully T2 (all support skills at IV or V), also got Recon Ships V for my Pilgrim but I could bring a Curse or a Falcon. No BS V, but I can use T2 large lasers.
Here's the skill set.

Tbh you don't join Hatchery to mission. You join the Hatchery to PvP in lowsec, where your standings with Gallente/Minnie won't matter. You definitely won't be able to mission where we live, but as you said you can just keep your mission ships on a border somewhere.
As for your skills...yeah you definitely have more than enough skills for what we do. We don't really use Battleships anyway so we'd probably have you fly a drake or a recon.
Be warned though, if/when you join us we'll ask you to fly a simple frigate for a while to discover your understanding of the game since we don't know your piloting skill. If you have a clue what you're doing we'll quickly let you fly your bigger ships but if you don't, we'll expect you to stay in that frigate until you do.

Low-sec PvP is what I'm after, been too long since the last time (which was FW). Frigs are fine, cheap to lose, easier on my wallet. I'll see about a Caldari or Amarr frig, as I got Frigate V for those.

When we use you in a frigate your frigate skill doesn't really matters since we more or less put you in a suicide ship and expect you to suicide when we ask you to.
