I fly minmatar and usually use a hurricane and all that shit... who cares blah blah blah. Anyways my corp CEO got all butt hurt cuz i looted his PoS (YARR! ). So then he cried to our care bear alliance leader who just logs on once a month to suck my CEO's cock, and is totally chobo, and probly thinks 3 rax is the best build in starcraft. But anyways, back to what i was saying... so yea i have most my learning skills and even helped take down an abbadon... which reminds me of how bad CVA is at the game.... But basically i think i rather spend my time killing care bears in low sec then fleeting with a bunch of roleplayers who think every kill in the game must be provoked. Like seriously its hard not to become Kurt Cobain hearing your fleet mates on vent complaining about the "rules of engagement" and half of them sound like they learned to speak English from zero wing. Ok so yea, you should recruit me and stuff or something so i can crack some skulls in 0.0 without getting my ass handed to me by alliances. gg
Your totally cool

This game is most certainly like Homeworld, in that the Minmatar Dreadnaught looks a lot like the Kushan mothership.
In all seriousness, there aren't that many similarities between the two besides superficial ones (3D camera in space, EVE looks even better than HW2 though).
But Homeworld is an RTS game. EVE is not. You only command one ship, yours. That doesn't mean combat in EVE has nothing to do with strategy and tactics, though. On the contrary, EVE is a thinking game, not a bloody hack&slash. Tactics greatly determine the outcome of battles. But these are solo tactics, or fleet tactics in which you coordinate with other players. You never command more than 1 ship (I guess carriers with fighters are kind of an exception here). That doesn't make it a boring affair though, no sir.
Just try the game. The first 3 weeks are free, and you dont even need to give credit card information during the trial, so you can quit/continue whenever you want.

Hi everyone, iv been hanging round in SCBW on EVE. Im training my skills now and hope to join Liquid Inc during the next recruitment stage. I first played EVE for about one month, 3 years ago, in a corp with some friends but they quit a long time ago. Id like to help out with both carebear stuff and 0.0 pvp.

Best part is it destroys your life !
All the trial accounts I've had (Paypal clears in a couple days!) have fucked up my sleeping schedule something awful

Apocrypha 1.5 this august
Things have been silent on the dev front since the release of Apocrypha this March. Apocrypha was a major success for EVE Online. We rose to new heights in terms of concurrent players and subscribers, and more importantly, we are very proud of the new features and functionality it provided.
Now we are working hard on our winter expansion. Winter is quite far away, and we felt because Apocrypha was really early for a summer expansion, we should put out a mini-expansion, rather than wait until winter to release all the stuff we are working on. It should come out mid-August if all goes well. We refer to it as Apocrypha 1.5.
Small, Medium and Large rigs
Ever wanted to build the ultimate speed kite frigate but couldn‘t afford the rigs? Tank your cruiser to the max? Mod your little hauler? Now you can!
We are adding small and medium sized rigs ( existing rigs will be considered large rigs ), which will be cheaper to buy and make. With this we are hoping that more people may get introduced to the joys of rigging and the sorrow of losing your specially fitted beautifully rigged ship. CCP Chronitis will explain further in an upcoming blog.
Level 4 epic arcs in Apocrypha 1.5
Apocrypha 1.5 will be rich with content. We have several new epic mission arcs, which unlike the level 1 epic arc we introduced in Apocrypha are all level 4, meaning they will be more challenging, but also more rewarding. With each themed around a specific race, these captivating stories deal with moral ambiguity, intrigue, honor and some people's lack of it. This should come as no surprise to those who know EVE and what we are about. As before with the epic arc that was released in Apocrypha, they provide a deep, interesting story, where your choices influence the outcome.
Specialized Cargo holds - Fuel bays on black ops
We are introducing a system that allows us to author specialized cargo holds on ships. We will start by adding fuel bays on black ops and possibly other ships. This means we‘re adding more space for your fuel, without the ships becoming horribly unbalanced haulers of death. The technology behind this opens up doors to making other types of bays, just for ammo, just for livestock or whatever. Those options will be explored in future expansions.
Factional Warfare improvements - LP for kills
We have been closely monitoring reports on lag in Factional Warfare, analyzing the network behaviour, player behaviour and scrutinizing code. The reported lag does not always occur and is elusive to track down and resolve. We currently have engineers allocated to the resolution of the problem, working tightly with the quality assurance department and our bughunters.
Meanwhile, in an effort to make Factional Warfare more fun, we are looking at introducing Loyalty Point rewards for kills and captures, with special LP stores for each militia, offering unique goodies for hard working militamen and women. More details to follow in an upcoming blog by CCP Ytterbium.
50% features versus 50% maintenance
A recurring question I get from players is "How much time is spent on new features versus fixing and improving existing stuff?". The answer is simple. We allocate 50% of our developer time to new feature development and the rest to polishing and iterating existing systems and resolving defects. We feel this is a healthy balance between moving forward and maintaining what we have already built. EVE is over 650.000 lines of source code today, compared to 280.000 lines when it was first released, so there's a lot to maintain and refactor. Apocrypha 1.5 will have a considerable amount of fixes and polish coming out from this work.
The Winter Expansion
We will be reporting on the winter expansion as it draws closer. All I can say, is that it is focused on sovereignty and you will not be able to walk in it. Check on the dev blogs in the weeks and months to come for more updates. Those who are into RSS and those kind of things can also subscribe to our RSS feeds.
Thanks for reading!

Wow, small / cheap rigs are gonna make frigates even stronger. Too bad about the lack of Walking in stations though, I'm really looking forward to that stuff.

Hang out in #teamliquid and SCBW till you get your required skills done (learning plus basic tackle skills, needed to live and fight in 0.0 space). as for vent, i am not a director but i think it's safe to say that since it's a alliance vent and not just liquid inc it would be best to wait till you are a member of the corp to jump on it. look forward to seeing you in game.

Alright, this games gay. I just lost my baby to a radioactive cloud. Fucker killed me in 3 seconds. I had full insurance. What do I do now?

Get a new ship a get it blown up again :>
Anyway.. I've been playing around with the overview settings these past few days and I haven't made any real progress towards a good overview setup. Can any of you veterans suggest a good overview setup for gang/solo pvp and even a full overview setup for eve? If not atleast suggest some good guides or examples.

you can train any race's ships no matter what you chose at the start. but i would work on getting a tackle frig set up first and foremost.
As for races, well it's all been said here and many other places the differances between them, but honestly ALL races have good pvp and pve ships (yes even minmatar ships CAN pve well ;p) so pick what playstyle you think fits ya and run with it. Also ask in scbw and #teamliquid if you need advice.
PS. learning skills first please PPS. destroyers are pretty mush useful only as salvage ships. forget about them and work first on learning skills then tackle skills then cruiser skills (or intys if you like small stuff) and skip the destroyers.

I played for a few months over a period of a few years - I never really got in to it that much since none of my friends played and though the guys at the corps I've joined (E-Uni and [H]ard Corp) were cool, I never really got to know any of them. Browsing this thread makes me want to get back in the game though, I'd love to kill some time this summer with my fellow TLers - especially in pvp.
My character has around 1.6M sp, with about 55% of them in learning skills and the rest in tackling skills ( I can't see the specific skills since my account is not activated). I have experience in a few ops as a tackler but that was over a year ago so I am probably rusty as hell. Also I am pretty poor and if I recall correctly I am flying around in a merlin with some 5mil isk in the bank. Anyways I'd ask about joining in the channel but I don't want to reactivate my account only to spend a few days soloing until you guys get back to me so I figure I'd ask here.

Ah yes, I remember this mission as well. The point of this tutorial mission is to teach you how to navigate around lethal threats, something I failed to learn until after I lost a second frig to that goddamn cloud.
(In case you don't know yet, you can navigate without using approach/orbit/stay away from functions. Just double click anywhere in empty space to fly there. I've already met 4 people who didn't know this after completing the tutorial mission. Tutorial failure imo.)
The fun thing about the radioactive cloud is that it hangs around a Pleasure Hub (at least it did in my case). As a result the combat log lists your ship as being lost to a Pleasure Hub. :p

Yes, later on destroyers serve no purpose besides salvaging, but the destroyer skill takes maybe half an hour to train. And since you need to have some fun while waiting for learning skills to finish, training and flying destroyers is perfectlly valid for a rookie imo.

I will parhaps take this game up again, I was hanging with GGRG (blade) but I gave my hero away, any chance for a experienced pilot to maybe start again?
