While you hold down CTRL, the overview will not shift around and new ships on grid will always get added at the bottom. When you release ctrl, the overview will sort itself according to name/distance/whatever again.

Also, and I'm sure KwarK will argue with me on this because everything I say is old, outdated, wrong, and my advice probably killed his parents:
Who orders by distance? Order by name == nothing changes if you have your overview set up nicely. <3 Warp ins happen, but they happen somewhat infrequently once people start locking and shoosting.

Kwark is one of those old geezer that's set in his ways! However, only time you would need ordering by name is if you can't find the primary cause you fail or something >-_->

Oh wow there is an eve thread!

Aw don't be too hard on yourself. Making a mistake is not a crime, and it is commendable that you recognize the mistake and are willing to improve.
On another subject, I know you guys have a mentor program for new EVE players, but what about 17 mil SP PvE carebears who would want to join you and learn PvP? My only PvP experience comes from some basic tackling training in a previous corp and one instance of tackling for some gateganking buddy and his corp mates. And now I have enough of missing out on what really makes EVE great, and it appears my current corp, while being a cosy club of RL buddies, doesn't have plans for PvP unfortunately.

It's never too late to learn how to PvP. Just let your CEO/PvP trainer/Mentor/whatever know that even though you've been around a while, it's pretty new to you. If they're even sort of understand you should be good.

And last time i tried CTRL didnt stop overview from switching around, but ill try again.

Yeah, but it's a lot more rare than your targets moving about going further away from you or closer to you depending on what's going on, what angle you're coming in, what their fit is, etc., as opposed to a name being higher up on the list than them if you've got the right overview set up, which is practically nothing except war targets and maybe stations and stargates, [and suns!].

The 'control' stopping the rearranging of overview definitely worked for me today. Helped me as we were sitting on a gatecamp waiting for someone to decloak, I just held control and got ready to spam click at the bottom of my overview list, which worked.
Unfortunately the guy was in a pod and warping away, but that isn't the point.

Bad times. We got a fleet up seconds after dt and immediately went on the hunt, camping a guy twice but not being able to point his stiletto before it warped off. They got up a cane, vaga and a neutral basi which I believed we could take with cane, drake, curse, rifter, rifter, rifter. However I fail FCed and my curse fit was a bit lopsided. We opened by attacking the vaga cause the basi was neutral and once he aggressed we switched everything to him. What I should have done is turned the neuts on him and kept everything on the vaga. However the vaga + cane neuted the curse pretty hard back (gate work low range) and it went down. After that there wasn't much punch left in our fleet and I lost a nanodrake. We immediately reshipped and tried to go station wars with a drake, cane and scimmy against vaga, cane and basi. Unfortunately two more canes arrived and Abom's disengage was a second too late to save his cane.
So pretty heavy losses. I have to take the blame for the curse fit and the wrong primary too. I didn't have enough experience in handling a curse to really use it to its potential and the result was an expensive loss. If someone else with my experience asked to use the curse I'd have said no until they got more practice so I should hold myself to the same standard. We're still at like 2:1 kills to losses so it's not too bad but it's not the start I was hoping for.

Damn thats a lot of red.
They say learning is done through making mistakes so, shit happens
(Correct me if im wrong, but I think a Basi is extremely cap unstable and usually needs a 2nd basi in gang for cap transfers, so yes, neuting him and focusing someone else would have been the way to go)

first rule of flying recons: HURRICANES EAT YOU
second rule of flying recons: HURRICANES EAT YOU
(but only out to about 24km, at which point you're fine-ish)
in retrospect, this applies to most ship types in the game, not just recons
|
You all suck at eve...
#1: THE CURSE IS NOT A BRAWLING SHIP, DON'T BRAWL WITH IT.
#2: HURRICANES CANNOT CATCH A COMPETENT RECON PILOT PERIOD. (Nice ninja edit trying to fix that btw.)
#3: DON'T UNDOCK IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW WTF TO DO. (AKA ASK FIRST IF YOU'RE NOT SURE).
srsly guys, quit failing.

I guess I missed the part where he said he brawled with the curse...
Were you online or do you just love caps lock dexx ?

I'm more yelling at the bad posts in this thread lol... The ship losses are a part of learning, I only get upset when people don't know what they are talking about (on internet forums :D)
Oh another thing, we sort overview by distance because this isn't blob warfare, and you need to know what is getting close to you.
