The point isn't necessarily to fly ships you are capable of flying at the start, it is more about learning how the fleet operates, as well as getting the FC's to know you and to trust that you are capable of doing what they want you to do in a fight, and the easiest way to do that is in a tackle frigate for at least your first few roams.

There are other frigates that can do the job, but the merlin is basically the best there is at the moment. Second is, imo, the Slasher.

May need some altering.

Keep in mind militia is now somewhat relevant (when I made these/wrote that guide we weren't involved with them at all). CCP has changed the wordings of many of those appearance criteria and added a few new ones so they need updating.

Also, my overview settings are slightly flipped in that those with 'fleet' in the name do NOT show fleet members. Someone who can be bothered should really fix that.

Even that isn't a good way to know who "won" a fight. For one thing, the goals of each side fighting may have been different. For a lot of groups getting the most kills is the objective, so Isk efficiency is what they use to determine who "won". For a lot of Sov holding entities holding/taking the strategic objective is the goal, so even if they lose a ton of stuff its possible that they can "win" by their standards if they save their POS or w/e it is they are trying to do.

I just realised I am at negative k/d and have killed less isk than I've lost on Gudrun. Today I have lost slicer, 2 omen's and a retribution. Killed a thrasher. gg
