It was mostly ruined by the bad dev decisions, and the few right ones they made came way too late.

I think most people are MMO'd out. People played so much WoW, that they just don't want to do RPG's or MMO's too much right now.

I know I'm done doing quests for NPC's for a long time!

Something is going to have to set the bar high to revive the MMORPG.

The +1 month you get don't have any effect on the subscription number, if you cancel your subscription your subscription is cancel you will still have that game time left though.
Like I canceled a week ago and still got 48 days left but my subscription is still canceled and don't counts towards the subscription number.
Just wanted to correct those few lies people talking about.

You have an active subscription and an active account.
Please post a source that you dont count towards "active playerbase".

Because a cancelled account still was eligibile for the "free month" proomotion.

PvE is awesome. But it's not something for hardcore WoW raiders. It's too easy for them.

PvP is awesome. But it has problems with player sync (position updates). There is also no matchmaking system (so you roflstomp the opponents, or get roflstomped) - one in every X warzones is entertaining & a challenge.

PvE hardcore players are back to WoW. PvP players wait for GW2.

Player numbers for my server (EU Force Harvester) ("davon" = out of it):
27.1 23:00 - 1022 Reps; 1372+ Imps davon @50: 298 R, 413+ I
28.2 22:30 - 596 Reps; 920 Imps davon @50: 215 R, 331 I
30.3 21:00 - 491 Reps; 701 Imps davon @50: 199 R, 324 I
02.5 21:30 - 448 Reps, 613 Imps davon @50: 233 R, 329 I

So about 40-50% drop in active players.

(And my server is top5 PvE German pop according to this

No Hardcore Player would play WoW, lolz! HAHAHA. They all skipped (incl me) after Ulduar. WoW has destroyed the MMO Genre because it became soooooooo Casual. At Vanilla and TBC it was a Game for Gamers and not for 12yo Kids and 45yo People...

Agreed. There is no such thing as hardcore PvE in WoW. It was in Aion but nobody could eat the grind. It's there in Tera but we'll see where it goes. It could've been there for SWTOR but every instance was bugged that they imped. My brother plays wow and literally only has 3 skills on his skillbar when he tanks hardmode dungeons. That's obviously hardcore. /sarcasm.

Lol...you really have no idea what you're talking about...

First off, you can tank a heroic 5 man dungeon with two buttons, not three.

Second, I would LOVE to see someone tank an entire hard mode raid with just three buttons...

This is a big portion of it. Months before playing SWTOR I quit WoW due to boredom of the grind. SWTOR became just like it still, despite me wishing it would be so much more. And to boot, it also was and still is plagued by technical issues that ruin the experience and lack of features that should be standard in MMOs. Also, SWTOR doesn't really feel like a Star Wars universe most of the time IMO.

I remember during the end of beta saying "They cannot seriously be launching this game in 2 weeks..." Yet they did and the game even to this day is the buggiest multiplayer game I ever played. I really respect ArenaNet's approach to GuildWars 2. They keep delaying it saying it will be released "When IT IS READY". The beta ran incredibly smooth and reminded me of how much Bioware failed at making a decent MMO experience.

Ign posted something today, that said In Feb there was 1.7million subs, and now there is 1.3, so about 20% decrease.

Back in vanilla, people were bad compared to now.
And the raid encounters were much less complex.

One of the main reasons it took so long was that you had to farm 90 % of the time. The game was all about investing time in vanilla, not skill. Even more so in pvp of course.

Not going to lie - preCU SWG was a much more interesting game to play. So sad they killed it. I feel like this just took the 'popular' MMO system and applied star wars to it in a very generic way. I played for a week and then got bored... fast.

Top world guilds get on the PTR and learn the fights before it is even released live. Then once they get the world first kill, they release a video. People watch the video, learn how to do it, and then emulate it. Don't think you had that during vanilla to a greater extent.

I remember vanilla and TBC also had some raiding cockblocks suck as attunements (SSC/TK anyone) and resistance gear requirements for some fights.

That being said, I've been WoW-clean for the past year now so I'm not as familiar with some of the current trends (last raid i did was Bastion/Blackwing Descent). Been trying to catch up on all the great games I missed while I was consumed by WoW.

Star Wars is where it's at, and where it's going to be for MMOs at least for a while. The last MMO I got into was EQ. WoW I felt was bad. People liked it because it catered to noobs, and most players started WoW as MMO noobs. I know that won't be a popular opinion because people talk like vanilla WoW was hard, but it was nothing compared to MMOs before it. Star Wars does the same catering to noobs at first, but the story and gameplay's interesting if you pick the right class, and the PvP is a huge improvement in the end game. Huttball especially has a lot of depth to it for MMO PvP.

Guild Wars 2 isn't even out yet and Tera has only been out a short time, I've already seen a lot of complaining about them and things that need to be fixed. Bandwagoners will get bored of them just like every new game and it will turn into the new thing to complain about. They don't have the funds to fix things like Bioware does, especially with the GW2 model. Star Wars is continuing to offer free content updates to players, both pvp and pve, and the content they're already building on is very strong, and complimented by the legacy system. Hate it if you want, but it's the best option for the MMO genre right now. The game's got style mang.

I was super pumped on this game until i suddenly wasnt one day. Nothing specific changed my mind i just got tired of it I guess.

Although after the GW2 weekend ive only logged on 2 times and it was for a raid with the guild. Even though i have some worries about GW2 it was super impressive and it grew on me over the weekend after my initial dissapointment that it wasnt exactly what it had been hyped up to be. So that might have something to do with it as well.

The PVE in this game is just incredibly dissapointing, the gear is extremely linear they made the gear progression for PVE like PVP gear progression with just 1 set per season (raid) or even less than that in the case of 1.2, there is no rare or unique items just 1 set to get, regardless of the new orange items feature its far less exciting to raid and farm gear when you know there is only 1 set to acquire. If they want to continue with the orange gear system they need to add rare armoring drops possibly with set bonus's that you cant get elsewhere that would be cool.

The rakghoul event was really cool, it fostered some really fun world PVP but it didnt last that long and now we are back to where we where. Also they added world bosses for the event which was great and all, but they didnt drop anything useful just less than tionese level epics that was a major dissapointment. Then of course the server populations where even a few weeks after launch when people started logging on less, the servers felt dead because they had spread the population across far too many servers, this was their single biggest mistake and one of the main reasons i hear for people quitting had they handled that better we would probably be seeing different numbers, community is a huge factor in making a popular mmo.

There is also small things, like for instance when i hit level 30 on my sorcerer i went to see which abilities i hadnt acquired yet and there was only 3 new abilities left for me to get from levels 30-50 that seems hugely dispraportianate where you get 90% of your abilities half way through the game it meant i didnt have much to look forward to game play wise and it discouraged me from playing my sorc.

Im playing tera and having a decent time right now, I wasnt particularily interested in it leading up to launch but i had some trade in credit at gamestop so i picked it up, The combat is great and the questing is very standard but ive been having fun, and it only takes 60 hours to get to max level which means the time commitment to check out the end game is rather small.

I wouldn't call it "free" content when it's subscription to play. Also, Guild Wars 2 has an in-game microtransaction store from what I've seen and if games like TF2 and LoL can get an income based on in-game microtransactions, I don't see why GW2 couldn't. So to say a big release like GW2 can't support updates or expansions (whatever GW2 decides to do) is just silly.

Anyways, SWTOR was really not my thing. Saw gameplay vids and my brother play. It really felt like a single player game with the generic mmo styled combat and the occasional co-op. I guess this would play out differently with a very large guild though (hopefully).
