I had no idea TL is so full of winy MMO players -.- If I wouldn't own the damn game I'd think of it as another really bad wow clone. If you bitch about the game atleast state from what perspective you dislike what. Cause all of us who are not "hardcore-mmo-i jizz myself over items and like to spent 5 hours right clicking on some big boss" actually do enjoy this game. The only thing I dislike about it atm is that everytime you look for a group for a flashpoint you end up with people who spent most of the time bitching about the items they got/did not get, but ah well I guess you can't bitch about mmo kiddies when buying a mmo. Also lol at bitching about no auto attack, like really? You actually need to tell the game to attack? Shit son. Also of course PvP is terrible right now, the game is still really new, and I'm fairly sure Bioware would have loved to delay the release another 5 times, but we all know how much EA likes money, so we all gotta wait for some more patches. If anyone actually likes star wars/rpgs or enjoyed kotor 1/2 in general I'd highly recommend giving this game a shot. If you have been playing wow for 6 years I actually have no idea what you'll think about this game. WoW is among the top 3 worst games I ever spent time with.
to be honest i agree with everythig khaymus lists.
there is no real customization.(much less than every mmo i have played last 7 years or so)
auction house is idd terrible, limiting and buggy UI.
there are lots and lots minor flaws that get you frustrated really often. group drop after warzone queue, quests never updating, quests cannot be abandoned, republic loot/recipes rewarded for quests while empire, quests cannot be completed due to bugged objectives (mobs not giving credit or dropping quest item, quest items cannot be interacted with), material nodes cannot be harvested, and more
PvP is perfectly balanced faction wise, but not even close class wise. any team with 2+ operatives/scoundrels can kill opponents easymode.
World pvp is non existant and limited to 1 zone. i did my whole weekly on ilum yesterday (just turned 50 2 days ago) i had to get 140 armaments cause i only found 10 republic to kill in 8 hours.
pve has been challenging but not really requiring any huge team coordination.(i have done most hard modes but not any raids yet)
combat is retardedly bad. not even an improvement on wow/rift combat system which are terrible.(then again i detest GCD based combat, i prefer animation based timings-see Aion, LotrO for MMO's). however autoattacks are not missed since they were just a placebo in wow/rift. just an added bonus and all you gotta do is not do cast-time spells. they just happened no skill involved. in lotro/aion autoattacks actually took skill to perform on the best level.i dont get how you can complain about autoattacks while you propose to play rift which has like the worst combat system in current mmo's after warhammer online.
however i enjoyed the game while leveling a lot. and as a fresh 50 gear progression keeps me to the game. i got no idea what is gonna happen if i reach some "endgame" stats but i guess without a server merge or population balance i dont see a bright future for this game. i will keep playing for now and i enjoy it a lot but if i ever have to gather 140 more armaments i am gonna shoot myself in the foot

You can always roll Republic and get zerged
But yeah, they should add an incentive to roll Republic (or Empire if they're outnumbered on the server^^), like 10% bonus to XP, Valor & Commendations earned.
I personally really like this game. I'm excited to see where it goes. I never played WoW, so I'm not as jaded as many people are. But playing through the story is fun as hell, and it is definitely worth the $60+$15 for 1 month to play. Many current games have far less play time and charge the same, so in that sense I do not regret buying TOR one bit.
As a republic consular sage, I have little trouble with levelling and pvp. My server is definitely overpopulated by Empire groups, but I think the low wait times for warzones as a republic player more than makes up for that. There is the occasional zerging, but as it turns out the majority of people are really bad at pvp, so I've managed to take down in some cases 2 higher level people at once (with CCing companions and knocking opponents into enemy mobs). Some will chalk that up to class imbalance. At the end of the day though, its not that bad.
As for end-game activities, I'm not there yet so I can't comment. We'll see if TOR manages to earn another month. But for now it's a lot of fun!
Ilum PVP is absolutely amazing on a high population and balanced server. I could just Ilum PVP all day on The Swiftsure it is that much fun!
Seeing 50+ imperial on hoverbikes riding into 50+ republic and then the all out clusterfuck is just way too fun. Though you need a good computer to get any decent FPS - lucky I just got a new one.
So i just got an update to my patcher which removed the pause button for downloads. Which means, for every single file this thing downloads now, when it gets stuck at 0.02 mb i can't just pause and unpause to force it to attempt a reconnect, but i have to close it, restart it, reallow admin rights AND reenter my password, making this a 30 second process i can repeat about 10 times per file before it finally updates successfully. GREAT!
@Tektos: have you ever player warhammer online? Those battles where really frequent there and they actually had a better environment to do them in where you had multiple regions behind one another with increasingly better barricades, castles and forts the further one fraction got towards the other factions capital city. So actually the idea is rather poorly implemented here Doesn't mean it can't be fun, especially if you're new to it, but it is rather disappointing if you are used to a bigger incentive to it all.

I've played warhammer online, Aion and RF Online (well, I've played a lot more but those are the significant games with world-pvp) and to be honest I prefer the world PVP in SWTOR than all of those. I would rate RF Online as the closest to SWTOR in terms of entertainment value of the PVP but I had to quit that game as it had nothing of value outside of PVP.
Yes the idea behind Warhammer's was good but the simplicity of Ilum PVP is what makes it great.
Although I imagine on a server with faction imbalance and/or low population it would probably be horrible, so it only works in specific circumstances.

As a lvl 50 Republic player on Belgoth's Beacon, I was 1 vs 40 on Ilum. It wasn't even close to a fair fight for an objective, but I can still catch single Imperial players. Funny when you're going up a hill, and just see a swarm of red coming at you, like hungry bees trying to get their valor and weeklies done.

TERRIBLE GAME DO NOT PLAY!
If you are looking for a good MMO to play please god pick up Rift. It is so much better than this unpolished peice of garbage that should have just been a single player game.
Not trying to troll or bash people for playing it...but if you are thinking of wasting 50$ on this please god don't. Following are some reasons not too:
Next to no Character customization Unbalanced to the moon PvP TERRIBLE Auction House Drop party after each PvP match (I know it is small...but TONs of little unpolished things like this that are very annoying) No auto-attack (personal pet peeve of MMOs) PvE retardedly easy and world PvP almost non-existant
tl:dr DO NOT BUY THIS GAME AND INSTEAD GO GET RIFT AND PLAY IT IS SOOOO MUCH FUN!
while i can agree with not reccomending the game, i would not reccomend any one play an equally boring Rift lol
Rift is actually pretty darn good, had a fantastic launch, and is steadily improving in numbers and content.
It's how an MMO launch should be, progressive. Not inflated at first.
I'm not so sure man, I quit SWTOR and went back to Rift after a 2 month break and the game seemed pretty dead. Seems like most people are 50 and raid geared that still play :<
nice video. although in my eyes it is evident you havent played a tank in a pvp mmo before right? little things like backpedalling all the time rly hurt your character.

Yeah Rift has a solid community (My wife plays lol.) but its not really getting bigger at any astronomical rate. Most people are like you say, 50 and raid geared or PvPing, or doing all the weeklys / dailys and fun things they added (Chronicles, instant adventure, end game rifts.) which are for the casuals (like my wife )
SWTOR's ability delay is completely fixed for me now after the patch, its fucking awesome owning everyone up in PvP ^_^.

It's a habit I have from my experience in FPS and it's something I probably won't ever change.
People need to get over the backpedaling thing, it literally barely affects gameplay and is the fastest way to face an opponent up when you're inches from them. Most of the time I do it has no effect on gameplay.
If you're that adamant on it, go ahead and explain to me how it "hurts" the gameplay so much.

Apart of the fact that what you just wrote not being true, strafing is way faster, you dont only backpeddle to face opponent that is "inches" from you, you do it all the freaking time couse of that habit. In simple games like SWToR where there isn't much place for improvement your refusal to actually adjust the one simple thing that would actually made you better is quite funny. Do yourself a favor and bind your s key for some skill.

Backpedalling because of an FPS habit? dont be ridiculous O.o you have a one track mind if you can play two different genre's without habits overlapping.
Backpedalling, depending on the distance will cost you time. Hence the "keyboard turner" abuse MMO hardcore players will give people.
Simple example of it is this:1) Takes 1 second to backpedal into melee range of opponent again. 2) Takes 0.66 seconds to strafe into melee range of opponent. 3) Takes 0.33 seconds to spin camera / character angle round to opponent.
Not accurate / for every situation but its basically the way of it, Mouse camera turning > Strafing > Backpedalling, sometimes strafing can be a better option then camera realignment but never backpedalling, its simply a time-wasting restriction that can be bypassed so easily.
Also, as a sith assassin i get the added bonus of getting a free Maul from dumbass opponents who backpedal too, probably operative skills etc in there too that require you to be behind the target. Your giving (or passing up on) free extra damage for the opponent at times.
It doesnt make a huge difference, but it all adds up and can sometimes save your ass.
Also, keyboard turning 180 degrees is a gazillion times slower then camera realignment, but thats not what the discussion is on
the first one was against 8 sith inquisitors the second one went okay the third one my two mates got a pop, i didn't, so i decided to play a space mission until they come out again during that, the server decided to start a massive lag fest which lead to me force-quitting the game after i was displayed 190000ms ping (aka game didn't receive anything from the server for 3 minutes), meanwhile buddies raging over tons of getting hit once -> massive lag -> dead. So i tried to log in again now and derp .. i can't log in because my character is logged in. Who came up with that genious idea? xD
guess i'm done for today. If my friend wouldn't kill me because he had to renew a few days ago already, i'd cancel my account instead of paying for another month tomorrow. :/

lol people with their theoretical calculations. I am 100% positive in most situations backpedaling will allow you to face up opponents faster than turning your camera and strafing. In a game where your skills don't go off unless you are actually facing the guy, strafing does not help you nearly as much as you think.
turn camera .33 seconds + strafe .33 seconds or backpedal once for half a second
win.
See what I did there? It's all game dependent anything otherwise is dumb. I play at 200APM in bw and 120 APM in SC2 - high masters, and use screen scroll and rarely use hotkeys for separate control groups and I do fine being C+ and high masters borderline GM in SC2. People have different preferences and can make it work regardless of what you think is "efficient" in your own small little "single track" world.
