Standard Ryu play uses a lot of EX Hadouken which means you'd never get to use Denjin (+ EX DP for reversals). Denjin's also a "setup" super in that you rarely get guaranteed damage off it (except stun combos on Akuma/Remy or on people who are already kinda stunned) so your meter might go to waste. Also works way better in the corner, midscreen it's way more inconsistent as far as I can tell.
EXs just add so much to Ryu's otherwise unspectacular move set. Solid but that's it... Which is why ShinSho and Denjin are so popular in the States, I think. The people who want solid, safe results eventually just play Ken or Chun ;( and rather than just playing a solid character (SA1 Ryu), ShinSho and Denjin add this "random," explosive element of risk/reward that isn't really there otherwise. Not really great for winning a lot of tournaments, though.

couldnt have said it better myself. ^^
who are the japanese ryu's anyways... Vanao is the only one who uses denjin that I know of
Ruu is one of those "stable" style players that Mc refers to Namijin (who I thought had the best ryu during his time for how solid and impeccable his mechanics were) was the epitome of solid stable ryu play. Kokui also is a stable calm type player who stays grounded at all times.
Although Messatsu (the original nasty urien player) loves the Denjin Ryu b/c it's "so cheap and ezez" or something like that hahaha.

Georgia was a japanese ryu, ^_^ although its been forever since I saw something from him

oh wait, tasteless plays Marvel <3
I'm just terrible at 3s and there's practically no scene for GG here in the philippines.. ah well,
So just to throw this out, why are there hardly any Denjin-Ryu players in japan? Are they just more content with sure damage from SA 1/2 + ex's rather than Denjin? haha no I heart Marvel too.

Wait, for that matter, are there people who switch SAs based on character matchups in tournies, or is that along the lines of switching characters and thus not allowed in Japan? But then what about outside of Japan?

there was a match video about 2 days ago posted in this thread
a ryu called vanao switched supers , SAIII-> SAI

makoto switches between sa1 and sa2 depending on mu. Usually vs yang yun chun it's sa1. some dud players use sa1 against chun/yun Hugo players switch bw gigas and hammer mtn but i'm not sure what mus. yang players use sa3 if they can use unblockables (and they've practiced it) oro players switch bw tengu and yagyou. elena will use healing vs oro (alwasy a good laugh)
etc~
it's legal.

Shachou (that Acho Eddie) is fucking ridiculous as hell too.
The three main Anjis to watch are Domii, Raimuki, and Doraesu. There is also ANG whose tech is top tier but other parts of his game are just lol. Personally, I think he is trying to set the record for amount of times May can CH J.H you in a match.

I don't mind since usually I remember who I am in general. Actually, it was a symbiotic relationship resulting in appearing twice as awesome and active!

Darn Japanese. Thanks for the Anji heads up even though Anji sucks oh what now. I actually really like ANG though it's true that he has a strange obsession with throwing games away. Maybe that's why I like his play so much.
lol @ all the Austin players asking me to play Cathy again after MWC. Apparently fubar didn't take a round from XAQ in the finals and generally wasn't familiar with all of Cathy's BS =[ Looks like I'm supposed to give people dat matchup experience.

Oh damn, that must've sucked for him. Random Cathy spins everywhere. I saw the AH2 videos from May 29th and XAQ was doing spins and spin supers everywhere. To beat him, seems like you have to block a lot, first of all. On the offensive, you can't just blindly do block strings because of 4GC > spin/superspin. You'd probably have to wait until he has fewer homing bars than you, so that he can't keep spamming spins and homing cancelling if they're blocked. Another avenue of attack might be jump-ins or block strings like x > sjc > j.x, since the stronger aerial attacks seem to stuff the spin despite its super armour. Those are my thoughts, anyway.
Block a lot = spin 2D grab ticks all day long. Watch how many times XAQ lands that against people in the MWC vids, it's pretty silly. He knows his Cathy BS, even if he drops stuff sometimes. fubar probably would have done better if he had been more patient and zoned more intentionally, but who knows.
Big Cathy stumbling block #1 is that she punishes standard AH reactions so well. Like 4D when you expect a grab gets RAPED by Cathy.
Cathy's spin doesn't have super-armor for the entire move, main goal is to avoid the arms and nail her in the head (or invincible super on reaction to GC). Mostly you treat the fight kind of like vanilla AH Kamui matchups, you're always watching for the GC spin (though Kamui GC spin was 60% damage). Not like you can blindly do blockstrings at all in AH. People also failed to punish whiffed spin super, which is a no-no. Free damage if she spins into your corner. Just have to hit her on the way down and not when she hits dirt. Easier said than done since people want to unleash some massive combo, but fairly simple if you're willing to do a simple combo.
Still... Cathy has some fairly big holes in her game (poor un-airblockables, weak ground normals, sometimes has issues against multi-hit moves if you're stupid and try to autopilot your way through them, huge target (am I the only one who does Cathy-only ground combos?), etc. etc.)
shrug I know I had pretty big success with Cathy when I wasn't screwing around trying to land ice drills so once aUFO opens up we'll see if I can't whip people into shape with some guruguru~ action.

Actually one reason I picked up Kamui was because I wanted experience against her, but since that wasn't gonna happen I decided to see how others fight against her and learn that way. Time for some random vids. AHF - Kanta? (Time Lilica) vs Pincho? (Bolt Heart)Assuming the Heart player is Pincho, he's one of the best Hearts around. And he still gets DESTROYED in the most one-sided AHF match I've ever seen. My friend took back his PS2 after watching this match so that he can learn those Time Lilica combos. + Show Spoiler [the match] +CvS2 - Desora (K Raiden) vs Buktooth (N Iori Morrigan Hibiki)Desora's ratio-4 Raiden is a beast. Watch Buktooth's life plummet after each hit... + Show Spoiler [the match] +CvS2 - John Choi (C Sagat Ken Cammy) vs Ricky Ortiz (A Blanka) - last match of Keystone II 9v9Good game + awesome commentary by Yoon. DESTROY THAT ASS! + Show Spoiler [the match] + God those combos in AHF were crazy, I haven't played that game in about a month or so, kind of want to start playing it again but it sucks playing it alone, oh well I'll stick to 3's for now. I'm looking to get a Arcade stick for my 360. Now seeing is how the arcade machine I play 3's on is broken I have to go back to the Xbox version only the D-pad really isn't enjoyable to play with so I think it is about time. I have been looking on this website: http://www.arcadeinabox.com/Scripts/default.asp And was just wondering what kind of set up I should get for it! It seems like a reasonable price and the reviews have been really good(Base price without any customizations is 149$).
