![]() At one point I was thinking that SNK might give up on KOF after 12, especially seeing how 2002UM is doing pretty well. It looks like they're back to the usual storyline 3-member team groupings, which probably means some kind of plot and boss, for what that's worth. Anyhow, King/Mai/Yuri is back in action. I wonder if that also means a reversion in gameplay mechanics back to newer-style systems, movelists, meter mechanics, etc. edit: of course, new info at the usual place

If the ultra freeze happens on their exact 1 frame of wakeup (gl timing that consistently), then it messes up their blocking apparently. There seem to be ways to avoid getting hit by the ultra (like backdash so you only get hit by the fireball or do some reversal) and/or blocking the whole thing. Ken, Rose, and Seth have similar setups. I've not tested it myself though. It kind of reminds me of KOF98 anyhow, from what little I understand of both. In KOF98, certain attacks (e.g. some command grabs, even when whiffed) reset the enemy's blocking status. So you can meaty fireball on their wakeup and then whiff a command grab to make the projectile unblockable. This is much lower-risk, lower-reward than the SF4 situation though.

Yep, shining example here of a wonderfully made game. Read the comments if you don't understand why that video is hilariously special.
