So I made a post on SRK talking about the upcoming Daemon Bride's game mechanics. Daemon Bride is Examu's new 2D fighter: it's basically Arcana Heart minus the Arcanas and homing bars, but with some new metres added.

For those who don't want to bother reading it, some interesting things to note about the Engage metre (the heart with a number inside, beside your character portrait):
- it fills as you take damage, like a revenge gauge, but it also carries over to the next round
- it also increases by 1 level when you lose a round
- the higher it is, the more powerful your special Bride attacks become (afaict)
- at MAX, it can be used to burst and, apparently, to do some kind of "ultra" when you have full super metre as well

So basically, it's a really useful metre.

Unfortunately, it also encourages people to win by timeout. After all, why finish off an opponent, thereby giving them more Engage metre, when you can just run away and win by timeout instead? Furthermore, if you happen to take damage while running away, that's even better because it gives you more Engage!

Can you imagine Justin Wong playing this game? He clearly doesn't mind running down the clock when it's strategically optimal, and in this game it's going to be optimal whenever you have a big lead.

One game has "you can air block only once" leading to unblockables and team-rapes. It has Sentinel's cr.HP which has attack frames that don't cause your character to block, a concept I've never even heard of before. It has double-snap assist infinites. It has Magburrito. It has Iron "one hit and your team is dead" Man. It has Capitalist Communist and his invincible, top-to-bottom, godlike assist. And so on.

The other game has combos that change depending on the aspect ratio. It has combos and infinites off of bursts. It has Kar-fucking-ass. And so on.

I dunno, I think TvC is pretty broke, but MvC2 is on a whole 'nother level.

I don't play it, but I was just watching this Youtube tutorial for the original Immaterial and Missing Power yesterday


I saw the video's length and said "I'll just watch the first minute or so," but then the video turned out to be really well made so I wound up watching the whole thing.
