Silly JeeJee, playing too much HoN.
And an argument is that Dota 2 was made for people that played Dota - thus "Why change hotkeys?"
Though hotkeys will most likely be customizable regardless as in one of the screenshots, the item hotkeys were 789465 on the numpad while in another screenshot, it seemed to be zxcvbn [guessing these are the default since Shadowfiend's razes were QWE instead of ZXC].

It's not like it's information you otherwise wouldn't be able to get as you can select them to see their mana it just makes it more readily available.
It's just the usual "hardcore" vs "casual" debate. Think back to the SC2 beta and the gazillion threads about multi buildingselect, smartcast and automining.

in moba games it's about the littlest things, range indicators, RNG dmg's, mana bars, cam distance, hell i'm sure those ticks for hp will piss ppl off on the hardcore side.

well at the end of the day, having them customizable is really the best option. i don't care if the default is g p n q, as long as I can change it. Ditto for colours. Oh and ditto for interface. I never understood the trend with putting in totally useless things that cover up space. Like, not even the useless things like picture/name of the hero, because those at least do *something*, but I mean totally useless things, like to the left of it, between the mini-map and the portrait. Why not leave it transparent? ugh.
You should be able to do this with dota2's UI: + Show Spoiler [hon ui changer img] +![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/VJLRT.jpg) Resize, show/hide, move anything. That's UI done right.
But that portrait/name is pretty dumb anyway. Even if you somehow forget what hero you're playing (?), your hero skills should instantly tell you.

The potrait / name can be for spectators also. A guy who are not familiar with dota can see the game for the first time and he can see when the observer clicked on the guy and know " Oh this is shadowfiend" This guy plays it well. Next time when I play i can try out this hero. Otherwise he will have to go to forum and ask " Hey the other day i saw this dota hero that is black and lanky do you know what hero is that?
No big deal really.

Yeah, the UI is rather lackluster - the excess space, even though it's made for widescreen should just be transparent or gone, the name plate/image should be a customizable option. The area that lists the damage/stats should probably be moved over to the left as well along the side of the portrait if enabled or basically replace the portrait area if portraits can be disabled.
Also:
+ Show Spoiler [SF image] +
Silly Icefrog, not porting heroes 1:1 [unless his stats were changed and playdota hero list hasn't updated it, in which case silly me].
edit: forgot about the VS picture since I was just concentrating on the VS model+[meepo?] model instead of the bottom spell part.
edit2: Actually, looking back at the VS picture, it seems that VS's stat gain or base stats were changed as well or my math is terrible right now ;x

Yeah, the UI is rather lackluster - the excess space, even though it's made for widescreen should just be transparent or gone, the name plate/image should be a customizable option, but what's kind of bothering me the most is the fact that it has slots for 6 skills on all characters, even those that don't have 6 skills to use. The area that lists the damage/stats should probably be moved over to the left as well along the side of the portrait if enabled or basically replace the portrait area if portraits can be disabled. Take a look at the screen shot with VS.
Doom probably has 6 slots because of neutral creep active and aura. And yah... a typo like that is making me think this is an alpha or some other very early build.

What's wrong with that UI? I think it's really good. I'd probably make the minimap a tad smaller, and get rid of the portrait in top left though. Minimalism is everything to me.

Haha i just went hon fourm and dled everything ppl think is cheap made the minimap like 1/6th of the screen i'm all for being allowed to remove the useless filler that lol and hon have just saying there should be limits to what you're able to resize and replace, i think you should be able to move it just not resize it, also that shop you can que items up to auto buy lol. Ofc what does it matter when tournament mode removes all mods if dota2 has mods would it require a similar feature?

Well queuing up autobuy items isn't really UI.. neither is stuff like tree stumps (although the best mod in existence imo lol), or auto-rune timers, etc. That's additional features/functionality. But just being able to change how stuff shows up on your screen (or whether it shows up at all) is different, imo. You're trading screen estate for information.
Hell, I'd probably even get rid of the taunt and fortification icons, since I know the hotkey for them, and I don't need to see their cooldown. Probably put the buffs in there, instead of above the minimap. My buffs on the left, enemy buffs on the right. And I'd get rid of the enemy inventory (top 6 above your own), since you can see their items on mouseover. Yeah, I'd love that flexibility in UI.

About this picture what i see that bugs me is, dmg is not Random number generated ie no range in the dmg just flat 62
The cam distance seems further out
Lucifer is quite large considering the cam distance too
And from where he is standing i can't tell exactly where is vision ends, i dont think he can see up the next ramp but i think he can see to the far left although that may just be the visual effect.

Started playing HoN today :D I have to say, although I obviously expected the game to be challenging as soon as the actions begins, I still was quite surprised by how hard it really is. Playing HoN is daunting, and it seems like there is a lot learn about certain miscellaneous things; such as which Hero to choose, items for specific Heros, spells, etc. It really is very intimidating. But I guess I will just have to be patient and bide my time with enough practice(and lots of reading of strats) until I will be able to fully enjoy this title. And that is exactly what I will do, in between of playing SC2 of course
|
Don't be too concerned about strategy/metagame/special tactics and just enjoy the game as a battle arena game. Besides there aren't any guides to learn anything from that will help you once you are consistently above 1600 mmr
Hon was so much more fun when I was 1500 psr

I take everything back.
