i just started again, i'm 1650 after around 40 games but i really like to improve fast. i'm forcing myself to be versatile by only playing sd and ar but i feel like that whenever i take sidelane or support i can't do enough. i'm getting the hang of warding and supporting.
i just want to throw out some random questions
-power supply vs chalice vs bottle?
- treads vs phase boots? i've been getting treads a lot and i just love the stat boost.
- carry items, i've seen generally a mix of people getting geometers/frostburn/frostwolf/ and some other damage item with a shrunken head thrown in. i've generally been leaning towards frostburn into geometers. suggestions?
- is there ever a good time to jungle instead of trilane?
Ways to improve:
- Play a lot. Having knowledge on how much cooldown skills has and it's mana cost.
- There is no good video for HoN on Youtube, so I recommend watching "The art of mindgames" by totalnewbie at least it gives you the idea on how important it is to know when to use skills/items to your advantage.
- About items. It really depends. But in Power supply vs Chalice vs Bottle, in the video "Audacity" by totalnewbie. You'll see how to use Power supply. It has a different purpose compared to bottle.

Wait do people actually think about those things I thought u just do it just like how birds make nests

I really dig chalice on myrmidon, he seems to have a high enough health pool to make it work. Plus if you get a headdress or helm on him his regen is sick. Anybody disagree? Or should myrm build like a pure support hero 100% of the time?

Myrm is basically picked because of his weedfield so just support since weedfield doesn't scale with anything

Is anyone having problems logging in right now?
Login failed: Invalid Nickname or Password
I tried upgrading my free account so I could play after HoNiversary ended and now its acting like I never had an account to begin with. My bank statement says otherwise, though. I'll be damned if I get charged 30$ for nothing...

I still like my chalice on balphagore. ^ I don't even remember how to play support properly lol, hon has changed a lot since I used to play it. I waste so much time on support nowadays and I don't even bother picking up the xp cause of all these tryhard lane bad habits. >.>; I have forgotten the name of that guy I as blathering on about last week, that guy was SO SICK like 250/80 in 29min o.o;;;;;;

I NEVER said get chalice on andro that would be extremely bad (her health pool is a joke it's so small), also when you get chalice you have to consider heroes like behemoth the +3 int can be pretty good early game from the stats part of the chalice and you almost always are on the edge of fights/have too much hp/mana when a gank is oging down and you'[ve fissured once.
In regards to getting better I do watch testie play a lot (see daily) I don't see how that would help you get better all he does on stream is vs 1600 pubs and smashing them all day it's a bit different when you have a TO5 competitent players you play 6-8 hours with every day even if they aren't pro players and you're one of the best ricers in the game than if you're solo/dual queing with 1600-1700 players all day =/ I play quite a lot.
Also I had no problem logging in (but I didnt upgrade a trial acocunt to a full one or anything of the like).

For the majority of players who solo queue smashing 1600 pubs is basically the height of their hon career.

The thing is with HoN, is that unless you're playing in a group of 3 or more people, you can and will lose soo much psr because of the team you get. Like, my psr on my sub account is 1200, yet the the k/d is around 2. And its not even like i codex my kills, i ward, i babysit a lot i just seem to do decent k/d wise. But i lose so many games if im not playing with my clan, it sucks, really

Yes... that is definitely a problem.
Playing with people who know what the fuck they are doing is much better. When I play alone I am increasingly finding myself playing Hag, Pyromancer, or Dr. Repulsor. Any of those 3 have a huge snowball effect in the mid game if they get a few ganks going to the point where they can really just take over game.
This allows your other teammates to feed off of that success, be it by farming on their own and getting whatever shitty items they get or just totally demoralizing the team you're annihilating so that your teammates start to win anyway.
People at 1500-1600 just can't deal with PK Pyro, Hag, or Repulsor. It's enough to get you to the point where people are marginally less shitty so you can do other shit for once and completely fail at that until you get up to speed in that area.
Plus its fun as hell to PK in as pyro and quite literally evaporate someone with firey death. I also found that Dr. Repulsor is hard as hell to play. I don't know how Korok does it.
As for chalice, I use it when I use a Hero that's using a bottle.

When you're significantly better than the people you play with/agaisnt, you will win a majority of your games - end of story.

Playing "babysit" in low-skill games is just an awful approach if you want to win. If you're not good enough to play carry then you should play something that helps your mapcontrol and makes life difficult for the enemy carry/best player, preferably with AoE/decent lategame skills, in DotA that would be: sand king, earthshaker, lion, sven, na, lina, rhasta, and enigma. 1) they all have a disable 2) they have sufficient power to kill enemies singlehandedly if the team fails to cope 3) they all have potential to be relevant lategame
there are plenty of other heroes with similar attributes but most of them rely too much on the performance of their team. At a certain level in DotA (dont know the psr equivalent in HoN) you can decide games almost singlehandedly by shutting down the enemy solo mid in the early game. This level is where the solo mid players are typically always the top3 players in the given game but the players arent smart enough to understand that they to leave their lanes before the 10th minute mark and help out their mid if its jeopardized.
oh and one thing that can fuck up games at lower levels is when you push or lose towers early. As soon as one tower goes down the game pretty much enters "midgame" prematurely. The lockdown that you had on the lanes is suddenly gone and the enemies get some space because players aren't good enough to keep the pressure up. Always try to gank as much as possible instead of killing towers.... (until you reach a certain psr)

Really, saying you cant go up in mmr without having a full team to back you up is bs. I'm a 1800+ player and i almost never play tmm, just solo queue. If you are smart and you want to up your mmr, just look at your team, see what is missing (often it's a support) and do it.
People think you can only carry a game if you're a ultra farmed carry and it's also stupid, a good/fed support who gives map control, ganks and all WILL make his team win even if his carry sucks.

I don't even know the value of different hon ratings anyway, when I stopped playing before xmas I was struggling to break 1700 psr solo (0 EM natch) but now with 3 different ratings and blah I have 0 idea whats going on lol. I'd assume there's some form of inflation involved but really some of the tmm games I've been playing with the guys in TL the opposing team seem pretty organised and aggressive (though usually not well-rounded)

I was 1690~ for about 3-4 weeks lol 1650 months before that then BAM 1570 in 2 days lol. I guess my skill somehow faded (End sarcasm) I made another account and won 15/20 games to get the account 1650 psr so meh. But yeah as to what you said about pyro and hag I played hag 100% in CM (yes I know lolcm) to get used to him as a hero and won 12 games in a row x.x. then I try playing him in real games and do nearly as well.
As to playing pebs mid, it's really hard to win mid as pebs without a courier/crow/wards not being able to get your bottle before the first or second rune KILLS how many last hits you're able to move in for.
Also how do you deal with a pickup like tremble or BH as hag/tb/ss. Edit:assuming youre both mid
