Also gamereplay/honcast have a lot of streamers, several of them being pros. They also have vods on their youtube channel, you can find there a lot of commentated matches from high tier to lower tier games.
You can also check the official hon forums or nerdstomper for guides and other stuff (nerdstomper has video guides made by pros, you might want to check them out).

anyone know anything about whether s2 is actually doing anything about this?

tip: don't get upset at stuff you cannot control. this includes bad teammates, unlucky string of misses, server spikes/ping and so on. it makes no sense, and plus people rage way too much in hon already anyway.
places to play: just play nostats to get a feeling for the game and an idea of what all the heroes are so you can recognize what they can do to you on sight. then hop right into MM, preferably with people who will give you right advice but solo MM is a (less desirable) possibility too.

Can you believe that it's been almost a year since Tadzio closed the thread for 24 hours and purged LMNOP?
Can you believe that Insane once threatened to close this thread because he was using INTERNET EXPLORER and the first page took too long to load for him?
Can you believe that the closed LoL thread is still longer than this thread by almost 200 pages?

i think we should close this thread with one post on the1337th page then open up a subforum, LoL Plus Skill or something, idk

Ok, after playing for a while.......what are the roles of the different classes. For instance, what kind of hero goes mid? What kind of hero can solo fine? What is the "accepted" configuration, 2 per side and one mid? How does a hero like the blacksmith have any use at all? What is a good hero for a n00b to choose?

Roogie, you need to link the answer to these kind of questions in the front.

I don't know if you're joking or not but if someone writes/finds a decent guide, I'll copy/paste or link it to the OP!

Half-serious, it feels like those kind of questions we got for DotA are being repeated for HoN, someone needs to write something.

If everyone in our clan actually posted in this thread (I don't even think they know it exists) we would easily have our own subforum.

1500 scrub here,
For instance, what kind of hero goes mid? Qualities you look for in a mid hero are usually:
1. Can farm effectively with skills or high early game attack damage 1a. Can last hit effectively despite harass (high hp/armor/defensive skills) 2. Can harass/burst down enemy quickly (spammable nukes, etc) 3. Relies heavily on being as high a level as quickly as possible (pebbles, hag, many more) 4. Is capable of rune control (blinks, stuns, etc)
The more of these qualities the hero has, the better. For example, Tundra is a good mid hero because his Q is a spammable (with a bottle) nuke that eats creeps like nothing. He has a good snare with one pet and can scout for runes with the other. His ultimate is almost always a guaranteed death for most heroes, especially under leveled side lane supports. Bad mid heroes are the ones that have very little to zero farming/harassing ability in the early game and rely on a lane partner to assist in getting creep kills (Scout, Magebane, Dark Lady).
As far as heroes that can solo... if you mean versus more than one other hero then you want a hero that has a good escape mechanism and can manage a decent farm by utilizing their skills. (Bubbles, Wretched Hag, Pharaoh). If they do not possess these two qualities they are probably not an ideal solo hero. Slither is kind of an exception but he has good push ability as well as some of the most annoying harass in the game. At your level, the only time you will see a solo hero is if somebody is jungling. You will (almost always at your level) want to solo bottom for Legion, top for Hellbourne. Look up how to creep pull the neutrals into your lane to deny exp and keep the creeps closer to your tower to farm safer.
What is the "accepted" configuration, 2 per side and one mid?
At your level and for 99% of the games you will play until you become a professional, yes. Rather recently (lol, like the past year or more) the pros have been tri-laning. The idea behind it is to send a carry and two supports to a side lane so your carry can farm without any trouble. The supports usually have one or more stuns (behemoth, myrmidon). But you won't have to worry about tri-laning probably ever. It will be either be 2-1-2 or 2-1-1 with one in the jungle.
How does a hero like the blacksmith have any use at all?
I'm probably not qualified enough to answer this question. He's almost never seen in the competitive scene. At lower levels pretty much every hero is viable, though. He has some ridiculous burst but relies heavily on RNG to accomplish it.
What is a good hero for a n00b to choose?
Plague Rider is probably the best newbie hero. His high early game movespeed will help you survive from the many many positional mistakes you will make as a newbie. His W scales into late game and his ult if well placed can net you a bunch of kills and assists and is one of the nastiest spells in the game especially against other newbies who won't spread out when you cast it. You can look at the HoN forums because I'm sure if you search there are numerous threads on this for you to look at. I would generally advise against going Pyromancer as a newbie unless you feel comfortable landing his skill-shot stun and are good at shift-queuing commands.
OKAY I didn't proofread this or anything and I'm not exactly a good player but I like to think I have a decent understanding of the game. People are welcome to correct me or add onto things I said. I only scratched the surface in my post.

Hey. A hero that goes mid is usually a hero that can use the extra levels they gain from the solo xp to a huge advantage, like a ganker. THis means that by getting those extra levels they can help destroy side lanes and push the "advantage" so that their teammates have an advantage. Another hero that can go mid is a pushing type of hero, a hero that needs lvl 6 to really push down towers basically forcing the opposing sides mid hero to either give up the tower or sit in lane and try to hold the push. (pollywog and defiler). The last? type of hero is a hero that can farm solo extremely well like soulstealer, thus there is no reason for them to put them in a sidelane.
A hero that can solo fine is usually one that has either a long range move so that it can farm comfortably away from the enemy heroes, or a hero with an escape move, ye i know it doesn't make sense but whatever. Blacksmith has a slow a stun and an attack speed boost for you carry, there are of course heroes that are basically useless in 99percent of circumstances but that doesn't mean that they are 100percent useless.
Best hero in my opinion for a noob to choose is plague riders, seriously you can not do better in a game than plague rider. he has a high movespeed, a decently easy to master spell set and a gamechanging ultimate. I remember when i first started dota i played Lich only for like 30games and would destroy noob only games. Another hero would be witchslayer, assuming that you dont use your ultimate to killsteal and that you level hex over manadrain you will dominate your lane.
I am still an absolute noob at HoN but i have helped many of my freinds get through the rough early stages so i HOPE that my advice can come in handy.
Edit: EPIC NINJA'D

My biggest piece of advice to a newbie is to NEVER AUTO ATTACK CREEPS unless you are making a dedicated push. For one it is a huge sign you are a newbie, secondly it makes it easier for enemies to deny, and thirdly it will push the lane away from your tower (it really has an exponential effect).
Also, you will die. A lot. You will hear shit talking directed at you and others. A lot. You must focus on NOT dying at any cost (even if it means being away out of exp range or going to tower whenever mid is MIA) and ignoring the assholes. Do not play matchmaking games unless you are sure you have a decent grasp of the game.

Even if you are pushing always try to get the last hits unless it's really urgent.
