The matchmaking system is terrible as usual, I was hoping for an improvement from the consoles but no cigar. I don't know how it prioritizes the 3 potential opponents but it is usually the same 3 people no matter how much I refresh and I have trouble believing that there are only 3 people at my level playing at the same time as me. I played ranked matches for the first 2 days until I realized that the matchmaking system made no effort to find an opponent with the same number of points. Championship mode is an improvement, and the ranking system is decent, except it took me a few hours to get to G2 and I've been grinding for days and I'm not even close to G1. It is also frustrating that I still encounter people who haven't switched their frame rates to fixed yet. Many people I've talked to say that online play can make you worse player as the competition isn't as good as at the local scenes and it messes up your execution. I agree that you must make noticeable adjustments to compensate for the lag, for example if I FADC in to ryu's ultra with my regular timing it will come out way too early and only hit once - I have to add a pause before I do the ultra with the length of the pause depending on how much it lags. Competition-wise there are players who range from terrible to average. I may have played someone really good but it is hard to tell with only a BO3 match. Online play does however give insight on how to play against the console characters, which is something you lack when you play at the arcade and it's something that needs to be learned since most tournaments are on a console. Anyways the point of this post is that the matchmaking system blows so online play is a crapshoot, therefore we should have a consolidated list of everyone that plays on TL (if there isn't one already), what version they have (360/PS3/PC) and their general geographic location. Skill level doesn't matter, I'm sure most people don't mind helping someone get better or learning from someone better. If you posted your tag somewhere in this thread post it again ^^

Your qualms are basically the same as mine. The whole game is poorly designed. Firstly the menus, they take forever to load and then each time you go back the fucking game autosaves. For some reason if I go to training mode or some single player shit for a while before I go online it won't let me go online. (says i'm not logged in, when I actually am). So I have to exit all the shit and restart the game which takes 30 seconds or so to actually start itself. Lucky for me I modded away the gay music or I would be furious. Oh yea, and the one thing that the game doesn't fucking autosave that is the only thing that needs it is your game match settings, which you have to reset every time. So , after all that bullshit and I actually get online I can't ever find an opponent. I don't even know if there is 1 world wide server or like divided into geographical areas or what but I can't find people, and when I do, 9 times out of 10 they lag. Regardless of their green bars or whatever (and this often changes from search screen to lobby which doesn't make sense). And that's another thing, what the fuck is up with the 1-5 bars with colors? are we fucking children or something? Just show the fucking ping, and while your at it tell what city/country they are in. How fucking hard is that Windows/Capcom? Does anyone know how much ping each bar is worth? I know in SC (which is an older game, we can forgive them for this mistake 11 years ago before cable internet.) each bar is worth 100ms. On top of that, the quick search is literally a joke. it is no faster than the other searches and the people ALWAYS lag. So we obviously use the create or join custom games. Which is barely even better, because like you said every search brings up the same laggers. Once you are actually in a game and it isn't delayed or spiking lag you obviously wanna play the guy more. Why is there no rematch for Ranked Games (go back to lobby after every game) like in the player matches mode? Why the fuck are you allowed to change the round and time limit in ranked matches? The honorable mention, (even when you don't have a mic) sometimes for some people (including me) the mic will pick up computer sound effects and you get this horrible feedback loop when playing people. When I first found out about this from people messaging me to "stop hot micing you fuking homo faget". I heard the sound and literally lol'd for like 3 minutes with my friends. It was feedbacking my game sounds and making some psytrance bass whomp whomp beat really fucking loud. I dunno how that worked out but it was hilarious and probably painful to my opponents. And why can't you type to people? Why is there no lobby/channel to chat with people? I wouldn't hate this game so bad if it wasn't for the horrible horrible design for the menus and internet. in the immortal words of DSP "Online play is fucking terrible". PS- What are all the settings that I should be using to make the game run faster and smoother, I don't give a shit about graphics (even though my card can handle it on a 40 inch plasma). Can you screenshot your settings menus? edit- Oh shit I can't believe I forgot to mention the single most annoying thing about the game. I set my buttons to numpads 123 -456 because controller blows. and the keyboard buttons are hard wired into the game/controller so whenever I accidentally press 7 or 8 or something it pulls down the live menu, and after a match when I'm trying to get the stupid medal screen to go away (because it takes so fucking long to go back and find another game) my friends or I accidentally press a button on the controller that brings up the menu because you have to use the controller to do it, and then you can't close the menu without using the mouse. I can't even control the game menus with my numpad kicks and punches either. It's seriously like what the fuck? They just copy pasted the Xbox shit and did the poorest job ever. Where is the appropriate forums where I can post these gripes to these fuckers.

Where is the appropriate forums where I can post these gripes to these fuckers. hahahahaha. Cry more about it. I'm trying very hard not to flame you here so this is me being reserved. The game is a PC port and these kinds of things are to be expected. There are fewer people playing the PC version than 360/PS3. Many people tend to lag because their systems can't handle the game and their framerate is not set to Fixed, which means your game has to update at the same rate as theirs, like Starcraft latency. From what I can tell, each bar is 100ms (this appears to be the universal standard). East coast people are typically three bars while west coast people are usually four or five. Generally speaking the lag is not noticeable on a 3+ connection, and if it is for you, see what I mentioned about framerate above. You complaining about the controls is your own damn fault. Get a stick and stop whining, that's how the game was meant to be played anyway.

Which still makes your statement mostly true since FG's are best on arcade rather than home ports.

The problem is that developers make more money when things are released on multiple platforms, and when games are developed for both console and PC they have to lean towards optimizing it for consoles because PCs can do everything consoles can do but not vice versa. That's why we see a growing trend of interface simplification, trying to cram all these functions in to as few buttons as possible (but that is a rant for another day). In SF4s case, now us PC users are stuck with a retarded matchmaking system that was meant for consoles. Also I don't know why you guys think that PCs aren't meant for fighting games, especially considering that the arcade version is essentially based off a PC that is even running Windows: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taito_Type_X
