So far I like using Ken/Ryu/Chun Li & Sagat, but I really suck bad. Like I have no idea how to "link combos" or what that even means. And all this other lingo like "reversals, standing 360's, lariats and all these abbreviations. Basically all I know how to do are the special moves and the ultra/super combos, the stuff they show you in the instruction booklet, but nothing else. Mind you, all I've done so far is play arcade mode and online, I'm thinking you can maybe learn a lot of this advanced stuff in some type of single player training mode (does this exist?). Also how do you unlock all the other characters and how long does that take? Should I unlock them all before I play online more? My last question is on the ps3 controller, do you guys use the joystick or the directional pad? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to using one vs the other? thanks in advance for any help guys, sorry im so nub at this game.. Most of your questions are answered in this forum: http://forums.shoryuken.com/forumdisplay.php?f=241 E.g. you'll probably find this topic very helpful: Street Fighter IV primer As for how to get good: practice.

So I'm playing at my friend's place, on his account (heero101086, I think) which has about 800 BP. I play some ranked matches and after losing several in a row because I scrub-out, I end up picking Ken (yeah I'm a Ken Scrub ![]() Now I've NEVER played against or even seen Fei Long played before. I don't know what moves leave him in frame disadv, or what's punishable (besides that flaming kick DP), or even what his moves look like period. So I ask myself, "WWJD?" (What Would JWong Do?) I figure he'd play defensive at first to feel his opponent out and learn his playstyle. So I try that. First round I pretty much press down-back for the whole round and lose pretty badly. The guy never does throws (thank god) but he hits me whenever I try to do something. He also successfully baits out my ultra with a FA xx backash. Second round I'm sitting in the corner pressing down-back again. So he walks to the other side of the screen and taunts me. So I'm like, ok bitch IT'S ON! By now I think I've got a feeling for how he plays, so I try to play to counter his attack patterns and it works. Second round goes to me. Third round goes to me. And even though the bastard taunted me, at least he was honourable enough to not disc and to give me (well, my friend) 100 BP. ![]() Games where the other guy's kicking your ass and taunts you, then you come back and win it, are pretty much the best thing ever. ![]()

If the Sagat is anti-airing you with st.hk, you can trade your j.hp with his st.hk; you'll win the trade. However instead of st.hk he can do tiger uppercut (which also trades), he then gets a free f+rh, ultra (which really fucking sucks for Gief). This is what I look for a lot playing while playing Sagat vs Gief. Sometimes against Sagat, it's better just to eat the uppercut and not even press a button when you know you mistimed your jump-in (same thing against Ryu).

Sure it has lower quality buttons (but still good) and none of the perks of the TE, but at least you'll have a stick. ![]()

I still prefer HRAP2/3 to the TE stick. I play with it on my lap, so those little nubs on the bottom that are meant for a table poke into my leg the whole time haha (also just prefer the hori parts since I've been using em for so long anyway). I'll add you later tonight probably on PSN, I'm TheEvilTree ![]() In other news, gamestop still hasn't had the fightpad come in that I won like a month ago >.> Got a free sf4 strategy guide which seems to be on the level of the starcraft strategy guide (fear the terran firebat rush) and this controller faceplate & "console skinz." Essentially something to put over a ps3 controller with Ryu staring me down while I play, and then Ken / Chun stickers that cover the playstation itself lol
