The company doesn't need to keep it online (company is bankrupt, doesn't exists), just release what's needed for someone to host their own servers, if someone then wants too they can bring a dead game back.

Alright cool so when Stormgate 1.0 doesn't run on Windows 14, and windows 11 is obsolete, are Frost Giant on the hook to update the game so it's playable on windows 14? What if Frost Giant doesn't exist anymore, what then? Are they required to release the game as open-source as part of their dissolution if they sold Stormgate prior to dissolving? There are so many questions and zero concrete ground to stand on that it's worthless to speculate.
Further, if "You have to support the game forever" looks like what is going to happen prior to 1.0's release, Stormgate just never gets released. There's no fucking way they go to 1.0 knowing they'd then have to support the game indefinitely. You don't get to play it forever, it never gets fully released.

Even if they get 1 million signatures after false signatures are removed, which I hope they do, and the legislature actually decide to craft a law, it will take years until it takes affect. It will not be relevant to the Stormgate situation.

The main focus of this is actually singleplayer games with the modern "always online" requirement. By no means does it mean devs have to retain servers and bugfixes indefinitely. For a game like Stormgate this could mean a LAN mode or users could host games (custom games) on user servers or dedicated servers. Ladder mode wouldn't work then obviously.

...Which is why I mentioned a requirement of them releasing the game as open-source. Other possibilities include protection from legal repercussions for reverse engineering the engine of an unsupported game etc, but that's also a complicated solution.
I don't mean to say it's impossible, I mean to point to it as a complex issue that does not naturally resolve in 'We can play stormgate forever' as its conclusion.

I think it should be sooner. The player count I saw it at 37 last night. I might be at like 10 by the time of this tournament. I would rework the date to be sooner so u can get more participants and before people become too out of practice if I were you.

Sounds like an awful idea to run anything on this version of the game.
If you can actually make balance changes via the editor and use those maps only, then maybe there is potential but I haven't looked into it or bothered asking. But safe to say nobody wants to play or watch games on Boneyard.

that's a good point, I was looking at this tournament date in a vacuum but if there is weekly stuff pros should still be in pretty good condition by then. I still think the best time to run tournaments is right after a patch drops as that is when the player count is at the highest, and maybe more interesting games with varied strategies as metas are still being figured out. (but not necesarily the most competitive.) so its a give and take.

That is quite the high bar to set. This will be the best time to try out campaign and 1v1 and invite your friends. Seems they are feeling quite comfortable now with the state of campaign and 1v1.

There is a Stormgate reward what gives you Dark Creation what allows you to copy a unit. Copying T3 units turned to be insanely strong, especially if its a dragon. Also the higher the reward tier is the more copy you got (lvl 3 allows you to create 3 additional copies - insta gg most of the time)
