what are we even talking about xd
I really have no clue how after release of official opening cinematic of stormgate and watching gameplay anyone could think of this game as spirit succesor of sc2 or in general regard it as good game.
Anyway, people have different tastes, good luck and have fun to those who enjoy this epic title.
any talks of when the new 3v3 mode will be made available to the public? im hoping within a month but that is based on nothing besides the fact i cant wait to play lol. at minimum though if they wanna release 1.0 this year i would hope it can get to the masses beforehand in case they need to iterate on it, before q3 2025. so latest end of spring is my hope.

Probably not for a while. It is listed as part of the third stage of early access updates in the current roadmap:
They are currently focusing on campaign and 1v1 and improving those modes. I also don't think they will want to release 3v3 in an unfinished state after the reception they got for other unfinished stuff.
Has there been any mention on how they plan to monetize the 3v3? On campaign it seems straightforward to just charge for additional missions - although I'm not sure how much money that brings in. Is 3v3 going to be similar financial model as SC2 co-op or so?
I don't know what their investor status is behind the scenes, but it feels like anything that can start bringing in stable income with short development time is a priority.
No official word on 3v3 monetization, but I believe there was talk of having a free hero per faction on rotation. For example Blockade (Vanguard), Auralanna (Celestial) and Warz (Infernal) could be on "free" rotation, and if you wanted to play Ryker/Amara/Maloc/Kastiel you have to already own them. Then next week the free hero list would rotate.
This was one idea I read a while ago so highly likely things have changed. And I assume of course they'll have skins, announcers, and other cosmetics... Ideally it would all be cosmetics but we know they need money.
The new patch is interesting... speeding up mining and hopefully making celestials less about mass argents.
Looks like since SC2 not at IEM Katowice stormgate is the last chance for RTS esports. Let's all cheer on stormgate and hope they succeed! Love their game and support for RTS sake.

At such an underwhelming numbers in all metrics? It’s more likely they bring back sc2 than stormgate in the future. Their best bet was using Korean pros star power to draw in audiences but that didn’t work out

it didn't work well *yet*, i think if we all embrace stormgate and herald it as the future of RTS, when 1.0 comes out and if its good we can live happily ever after.

Thanks, but no. I don't want my favorite genre to be associated with broken promises, false marketing, ninja editing, fake reviews, and botting.
SG has to exist to teach others what not to do and demonstrate the consequences.
SC2 just scales down a bit. WC3, Aoe2/4/M, BaR exist. There are a lot of new RTS games: ZS, TR, BA, DORF.
I'll just post some numbers to support my take somehow.

This is just incomparable. Talking about SG and FG as saviors of the genre is naive and/or manipulative.
i understand it may not be a game for everyone but I think what is most important here is u are comparing complete games to one in early access. Sure I am hopeful, but that is what imo we need, to embrace it with open arms so 1.0 can pop off and save esports.

Why not? EA is just a marketing buzzword nowadays. Just like 1.0 Devs can call anything EA. Most crypto-scam games are EA. And they will never come out of EA. Should we also defend them because they are EA? Maybe they'll get better?
It was made by 1 guy before. With no FG budget and marketing. Pure talent. It's a single-player btw, with no need for big numbers for matchmaking.
EA is not a reason why SG has bad metrics. It's just an excuse. I bought Hades, Satisfactory, and Against the Storm in EA. They all had 95% positive reviews and tons of players.

I really appreciate that Beo is putting out this content: the Allen Dilling interview and now this one.
I understand Tim Campbell's rhetorical damage control and everything, but there are many things that have nothing to do with budget or lack of polish that went seriously wrong for Stormgate, such as the story they chose to tell, the initial design of the factions, what they chose to prioritize during development, etc. I won't harp on it as it's clear they only have one option at this point, which is obviously to correct mistakes and give it another try. And while I'm not super on top of the game, I am curious if they manage to bring it back a bit.
I did like when Tim C said that Vanguard unit counts could be lower and their units more impactful, and infernals could be more swarmy and disposable. If they push this to the extremes, and aren't super conservative about it, I think it could be pretty cool. Apply the same asymmetry to the races' structures, too.
For the people saying that Stormgate is the only hope for RTS, and that we should support it no matter what, for the sake of RTS—I think this is bad rhetoric. It paints a bad picture and puts a lot of pressure on people to do some unnecessary thing. People should support good things, and things they love. A Blizzard-style RTS can always be made and there's always strong potential for inspired people to give it a crack, especially during a drought or following a lot of failed attempts by other studios.
Early access seems like a cop out to create a half finished product and monetize in game stuff to make as much money as possible without putting in the effort to make a good product. I’m not saying that SG does this as bad as some other games but that’s the impression I get from some of these early access games.

Hi Tim !
The current Steam RTS Fest indicates there is far more than just 1 last "chance" for RTS. The RTS genre has a player base that is not going away.

ehhhh
I don't agree with the "last chance" framing for Stormgate either but I had a flick over the Steam RTS Fest and most of it didn't even seem to be RTS :/
