The RTS genre has a player base that is not going away. ehhhh I don't agree with the "last chance" framing for Stormgate either but I had a flick over the Steam RTS Fest and most of it didn't even seem to be RTS :/ he's probably talking about games like tempest rising, zerospace, immortal gates of pyre, and while these games can be popular among their playerbase, none of them are really equipped with the team to take RTS Esports to the next level, or even return it to its former glory. Stormgate is the best equipped imo and thats why I herald it as the *potential* savior.

The only best equipped game is a game that is popular amongst its playerbase and is operating with profit, even if it's a short period of time. Not balance, or whatever engine it runs on with how responsive it is, these are nice to have but barely crucial.
I won't be surprised if littlewargame (the browser game) has a bigger presence in esports history when stormgate closes down eventually, and that's without all the ex and current pros/casters/devs trying to force it to happen.
There are tonnes of small games that have a larger esports scene than stormgate in Korea, remember kartrider rush+?

Tried playing lwg a week ago and couldn't even find an opponent after searching for 20 minutes I settled for a bot game and bot was horrible and wouldn't leave until I killed all his buildings.

Little war game has been around for over a decade and has their bumps and dumps in player count every now and then, with tournament every year or so. Once stormgate goes down under this year, we can safely say little war game has bigger scene than stormgate

Checking the leaderboard is kind of funny, ngl XD
There is a guy who is 0-20 and he is in the top500, rank 406, the guy below him is also 0-11. People who only played one game and are 0-1 are in the top 500.

Just wanted to clarify something I said in the last post and then I'll power down like C3PO.
I know making claims about someone else's development woes is a red flag for being a clown-anus but, basically, what I think would have been really cool, and more than enough for me to really enjoy EA, is A) 2 really asymmetrical factions that are fun to play in 1v1 and B) a campaign that establishes this world as something to invest in and explore in later chapters. (my PC overheats when running SG so I guess it wouldn't matter, but hypothetically speaking)
Obviously this is hindsight 20/20 shit but w/e. Something something vertical slice.
Anyways, feel like I'm going in circles. I'll check back in at the next huge update. Hope it's good.
|
Oh shit I forgot to mention the thing that hurts 1v1, that I been harping on, is no in-game progression, or that Warcraft III esque social system. That would really help people enjoy the game and continue to play it. But that's a whole other topic. Ok I'm stfuing now.

hotfix is here, celestial income should be more in line now hopefully. gonna try and ladder myself
|
i think it is a bit unfortunate this happened during new season and people got insane winrates that will carryover for months with celes already that arent entirely representative of their skill with the race just the fact it was overtuned.
|
hmm... i didnt miss any bob production but my eco still seemed inline with Celestial and i went CC first and he went 1rax expand. not the biggest of deals whats bothering me more is the game still has sound issues. it seems like everything is really quiet or plays no sound half the time :/

The RTS genre has a player base that is not going away. The most played game in this RTS Fest has been Tempest Rising and it peaked at 1.4k concurrent players. When Stormgate first debuted in RTS Next Fest, it had peaked at 5.1k concurrent players. Besides, since the initial point was about "RTS esports", 99% of the games in RTS Fest don't even qualify.

I sense a *cough* "bad faith low effort troll take" TR is not out. You can't play it rn. TR is B2P, SG is F2P.
|
BTW, SG is GOAT because it has more max players than SC3 and WC4 combined. Also, a water molecule contains more hydrogen atoms than there are stars in the entire solar system.

I can't find Spartak on the stormgate leaderboards. I'd have thought someone with such in depth knowledge of all RTS would be top 10 at least
|
Did you guys not read what he said? he said in RTS fest last year (when SG also wasn't out) it peaked at 5.1K concurrent. He's not talking about SG after it was released. So the comparison is apples to apples for SG vs. TR - in both scenarios they were unreleased and only playable during RTS fest.
It's not surprising that SG did better anyway, since at the time it was under all the Kickstarter hype and people were quite excited about the game, whereas there isn't any new, big upcoming RTS in this RTS fest event. (We've all seen ZS before, for example).
I played the Zero Space campaign first 2 missions - I felt they flowed a little better than SG. Not bad for alpha. I laughed when I had to "Accept/Decline" that I understood the game is pre-alpha/unfinished etc. That probably would have been a good idea for SG on day 1 of EA also. I know they have the "warnings" now.
Stormgate, Zero Space and Battle Aces seem to have the most "RTS pros" trying them out to see which will be the next big RTS (if any). There's tons of RTS games that I'm sure are quite good, with 1/100th of the budget and the team and scope of SG or whatever. For myself, I only care which RTS will have good multiplayer and hopefully an e-sports scene. So far it's unclear which game has the best shot.
I'm not buying or trying random RTS games for a vs. AI or campaign experience. (Although I bought Warz on sale 50% off - I finally gave FGS more money since the initial Kickstarter).

top 10 investors might be a better leaderboard to check

TR is not buy to play right now. It is free for everyone. Just like Stormgate was free to play for everyone when it was first available for playtest one year ago.

i have to say, the pacing of the economy is much faster than even SC2 in the most recent patch. i was watching a pro gamer today and on that really big 4 player map the infernal already took half the map by 10 minutes, every base that was on (his side.) you dont even see that in sc2 so that was surprising. Though, there werent many skirmishes that time just people creeping.
|
Yeah, Paragon had 35k max players. Now it's closed. SG had 5k. Now it has 100, and it loses players every month. Max player count is irrelevant.
