But watching a dude play I've noticed that he's always capped at 100 mana and the same mana regen speed. He specced into glinting icebolt to help with mana regen, but it is still kind of wierd seeing him be Out Of Mana after casting 1 hydra and 2 fireballs... Is this the intended design to deliberately slow down combat and give it more gravitas, or will the player later be able to have a higher mana pool and more regen? Right now the most manacost efficient spell seems to be hands-down hydra... IMO, one of the best things Diablo 3 did was separate abilities into generators (or free skills) and spenders. Generators are supposed to be your bread and butter while casting a few spenders will render you OOM easily. Of course, they had to completely ruin this in the endgame by creating legendary and set items that make spenders virtually free. But it was a really good system while leveling up. Weaving generators and spenders together is a much better form of resource management than mana in D1 and 2.

Pros
Overall I was impressed, considering I was extremely pessimistic (I'm a D3 hater, sorry). I think it will be a great game for people that are OK with the online elements and just want satisfying combat and loot grinds. However, I think the server / performance issues will cause a horrible launch. I'd wait until they die down and see reviews, personally. e. Just did world boss (failed at 15% rip) and Malnok stronghold with a TLer from Germany (I'm in US East). Worked surprisingly well. Some stutters but was easy to setup. Classes have natural party synergies (I provide Vulnerable, Sorc freezes stuff). Was pretty fun ngl

I played through level 25 as a sorc, and I was very happy with the flexibility/options I had. I focused on frozen orb, hydra, and blizzard, which was a great combo, and I'm sure there are plenty of other early builds that are effective too. I don't know if I'd call sorc "overpowered", although it's pretty subjective.

Personally not planning to buy D4 as I dislike Blizzard in the last years and theres enough other ARPGs like PoE and Last Epoch that are fun to me.

In TQ I defaulted to picking up a bow until my build came online and in d2 you spam heal pots nonstop until you get lifeleech. Lvl 25 isn't exactly high. I've heard sorc and barb switch in power come endgame. IMO people are playing barb early game wrong. Leveled mine today and didn't really have too much trouble. My only death was to the butcher. Nothing more than typical melee struggles but the combat was pretty smooth overall.

Not sure if I can justify spending 70 usd tho. Might just play through the story once on a friend's account. I guess I'll wait for peoples reactions to endgame at launch.

I'm curious how Ultimates pan out in endgame. Even though they look cool, right now they seem very much so not worth it. Considering their very poor uptime relative to their value. I'm hoping there's some setups to spam cooldown reduction or something Looking forward to Necro next week

Anyways I fully expect Necros to be handicapped in some form or another in regards to summons.

Additionally, you don't ever pick up multiple versions of healing potions at the same time (e.g., you never will pick up both a minor and a light healing potion, like how in Diablo 2 both could drop). Instead, a vendor in town gradually upgrades the level of healing potion that universally drops for you, and no potions inferior/superior to your current healing level will ever drop. They also don't get placed into your inventory either, to reduce clutter.

Also like D3, they have separated skills into two categories: a resource generator (spammable) and a resource spender (not spammable, but more impactful). It's a little jarring if you're coming from the mana-based world of D1/D2, but it's a net positive adjustment.
