Tbh, I can't watch his stuff. After looking at his vids on D2 builds and seeing him say with a straight face that chaos sanctuary is a hard place for a palidin to level...ummm ya...and saying how buff he was and as he proceeded to teleport passed everything. Then for builds, he just shows totally end game gear (which he still did not discuss other options...that are franky just better, etc. Just cannot take him seriously at all.
Sadly, this is another in the franchise I have no interest in. I do hope that folks enjoy it, but I will be staying away from this title.

MrLlama is great. The only problem he has is that he also fell into the trap common for people who've spent 20k+ hours in a game: their perspective is a bit skewed. If you're making a guide video most people that are going to view it will be beginners or intermediate people looking for some next step. Showing builds that revolve around some ultra rare drops is not really the way to go (might be different if you labeled the guide as "expert level" or something).
I know a lot of people have quit games (not just D2) because they looked up builds and it's stuff that's unattainable for them for the next 6+ months of playing.
It's the same thing you sometimes see with games like Guild Wars 2, all is cool and dandy but then you look up guides for DPS and you see that your "opener" in a fight is an 18-step process and if you don't know your whole 40-step rotation by heart to the point of muscle memory people don't want to see you in raids etc. Shit like that really kills games.

yeah mrllama is an overall great d2 content creator. the only problem with "guides" on youtube is that even the budget guides assume that you play multiplayer. none of the guides out there are truly ssf tailored because anyone who plays ssf will realise that item builds mean fuck all because it relies on you having to actually find it, which is going to be unlikely on first time playthroughs.
so for genuine noobs, the best advice is to just wear whatever is best out of what drops for you. then the discussion needs to be moved to what skill build to use assuming you dont have the items you want, and a lot of people including mrllama seem to include disclaimers at least that x build isnt the build to beeline for during progression. use y build until a certain lvl or until you have certain breakpoints then respec, etc.

well to be fair to him, he also says what you are saying a lot, such as "or whatever item you find that has X". I feel like people "watch" videos with no sound and jumping a lot and then get a very skewed perspective.
Besides, he does have a million videos with "let's play" that start from lvl one and finish hell with a ssf character and build of choice for that guide. So he has the tools for even total beginers. Hell my 63 yo father picked up one of his guides and finished hell for the first time in his life in D2R. So his stuff does help complete noobs.
I do agree that some/most of his 15 min summaries show a ton of items that you need to farm or a lot (a LOOOT) of luck to drop on a single playthrough. Then again, they are showing your target for a specific build and a couple of alternatives, they are not a show of what to use in a regular single hell run. (for context, the videos were made to support the summaries in icy veins. Its a visiual thing for the text of the items that you are looking for in a specific build that appears there).
And I do have my gripes with some of his content, not a fanboy or something, I just don't personally agree with the above opinions

hell yeah, get your preorders ready guys! /$
+ Show Spoiler +Sorry, couldn't resist =(

They give a free for everyone open beta weekend and people still bitch, sigh
There is no pleasing some.

I was just making a joke but sure, if you want to take it seriously: They still charge people money for more and earlier access to an unfinished product. The fact that adding a "free" _open_ beta is now considered generous tells you a whole lot about the industry and its consumer market.
I think there are ways to please me. Blizzard is just very consistent when it comes to not ticking any of the necessary boxes. And not just Blizzard, just to make that clear.

What would you have preferred for Blizzard to do in this situation to please you since announcing the open beta has not?

There is no pleasing some. Pretty sure an open beta has a purpose other than "give people free stuff".

The news that they have decided to not tie any beta or headstarts to the preorder anymore. Not that this would have made me buy the game but I would have praised them for that. To be fair, in this exact situation with all the news they had already put out regarding preorder "benefits" that is not a step one could have expected from Blizzard in good faith because they had already committed and walking the decision back would have angered a lot of people who had already preordered. So yes, in this exact instance there was no pleasing me indeed.

It's kinda their sales model to force people to put in preorders who wanna play somewhat "competitive" (meaning also Streamers and stuff because if you don't stream the earliest possible someone else will take your place and viewers).

TBH I can't really get excited for this game. It kinda looks like discount PoE/LA. I guess it just proves that Blizzard is now creatively bankrupt.

I'll play it eventually if it is a decent solo experience and if the reviews are decent. I'm not interested at all in the MMO aspect

If anything the MMO aspect is more of a deterrent for me than an incentive. But I guess that's also the result of me never being a fan of multi-player in Diablo games, it's fun from time to time with your friends but overall a mostly pointless mode in this kind of game IMO.
I believe most people only really use multi-player for trading. This can just as well be achieved without any real multi-player, just have a shared auction house somewhere but the game be single player experience. Would actually be an innovative concept, where you'd only need Internet connection when going to the trading hub but could play offline everywhere else.

Yeah, but it is really hard to sell skins and boosts in a singleplayer game. Sometimes it works, but it works a lot better in multiplayer games.

Nice idea but it wouldn't work. If you can play offline, all data needs to be saved on your hard drive, which means you can manipulate your items in whichever way you want. This is basically an open battlenet scenario without any of the multiplayer stuff except trading, which is pointless because you can either make your own items or buy items someone else made.
Honestly, I'm much more in favour of hub multiplayers like PoE or GW. Now more than ever. D2 was similar, having hubs (chat rooms), but the other two examples took it a step further ingame. So, have instanced hubs with other players for trading, party forming (if you like), chatting and once you step outside you are on your own or with your party. Offline modes need to be seperated for aforementioned reason(s).
