I mean Nintendo usually strikes first and hard at the slightest attempt to copy their IP. This game even has the devs saying it is a world of "Pokémon with Guns" which of course is awesome.... Will it be available on Switch?

An interesting videom from Day 9 talking about the starting area of TolK. Although I think a big part of it was him not knowing what type of game the game is, having not played botw, and having certain moulds he trying to fit the game in instead of taking it for what it is. But I think the starting area could have had some improvements yes. On June 06 2023 15:40 Laurens wrote: Finished the main story yesterday. Just like in BOTW there are many shortcuts you can take but I THINK I did all the main quests available. Now the real fun begins for a completionist like myself; finding and doing all shrines, lightroots, koroks and side quests. Not 100% on the side quests yet, I've had some stinkers like 'find all the wells across Hyrule', I'll probably leave those for last and see how burned out I am. Definitely a great game in the end. Loads of mini frustrations along the way though. Clunky systems, clunky mechanics, Joycon drift appearing after a few dozen hours didn't help xd. Not the biggest fan of the combat. Stuff like horse riding and swimming feels terrible. But lots of exploration, lots of puzzles, didn't rate the depths and the sky world at first but I quite like both of them now. Good additions to the world. I still have a long way to go to finish the story (well, maybe not long, but I still haven't done the gerudo quest). But I'm having fun with the side quests. The hateno ones are cool, the ones to find the helmets for you and the champions are cool as well (also, lore implications? the sheika tech ones were replica of the zonai ones?). I like the switch but cannot play it with the joycons. I bought an 8bitdo ultimate and I love it. Kind of expensive but it works on PC too. Can't recommend it enough. Also It will never drift. I really like how the dephs are related to the surface (rivers being mountains, shine and roots locations etc)

Core combat is Def Jam Fight For New York with an added layer of tactics and complexity. The core game play is absolutely fucking phenomenal. Competitive multiplayer is amazing. All the bells and whistles around the core combat are "meh". Many other wrestling games with much weaker core combat have 10X more story mode, league mode, special match, and create-a-wrestler content. All the content never makes up for the second to second core combat. There are complaints by reviewers about the graphics. The graphics only need to be good enough to display the combat. Hell, N64 graphics would be good enough. The graphics get the job done and are NOT mo-cap... which is a massive massive plus. Hardly any of the reviewers played competitive multiplayer. These reviewers know from a logical perspective that the Fire Pro and AKI series of games have rabid cult like followings. The reviewers do not understand why those games are great. Nor do the reviewers understand why they are so beloved. Fire Pro and the AKI games are not revered for the graphics. AEW Fight Forever is far and away the best wrestling game on the Switch. The game fits perfectly with the kind of game player who owns a Switch and doesn't care about motion captured hair physics in a combat sports title. Leave that pointless BS to the WWE annualized sequel machine and the content creator zombies who act like its some kind of break through achievement in technology. AEW Fight Forever is the perfect foil to the WWE 2K Series. The ultimate winner in this new war for market share is.... the consumer.

These court cases are great for inside info. ![]() XBOX Series S is substantially better than PS4. A big question is the storage speed of the new device. If new Switch is similar a Series S with an SSD as its main storage method then it is a big upgrade.

"Since it's getting closer to the eighth-generation platforms and what we previously offered on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it is reasonable to think that we can create something appealing for the next-generation Switch," Kotick said. He says "closer" so it's possible it's less powerful than those consoles. Although Nvidia is making the chipset so with their IA tech, SSL etc. it could actually end up more powerful but not in the traditional way. Frankly there is not a lot of mobile tech as poweful as a Ps4. And other hand they are more expensive. I expect the new switch to also cost around 300-350 usd. Although, this basically confirms, as most of us expected, that the next nintendo console will also be a handheld. Kotick (which I feel literal disgust just typing his name), also says he expected the switch to fail and regrets not releasing cod on it.

Nintendo is in a strong position. They can afford to wait until the state of technology permits both a profit AND a big upgrade over the current Switch. That's prolly what they are doing, that is, waiting for the tech to catch up so they can build their next generation of Switch for a low cost. There is some # for which they are waiting. If they could build the next gen switch for $10 USD... they'd be doing it right now. Obviously the # will never get that low... but there is some dollar amount that will trigger Nintendo to bring out a new console.

Hope you’re having fun. There are a lot of things in Japan one wouldn’t expect even if you researched about it. Did you guys finish Tears of the kingdom? What do you think of it now that more time has passed? I only need to kill the final boss now, in general I liked the game but it definitely felt daunting with so much stuff to do. I haven’t even completely explored the depths yet. _________ Something interesting that came out in the Microsoft activision purchase. Nintendo first party profits are more than 3 billion higher than PlayStation and Xbox first party revenue. https://www.tweaktown.com/news/92161/nintendo-conquers-console-publishing-revenues-beats-sony-by-3-billion-xbox-8/index.html

I'm so glad everyone convinced me to stick with it past the starting island. And I'm not at all surprised that Nintendo has been blowing Playstation and Xbox out of the water. Xbox has never been a threat, although I wonder if Microsoft acquiring Activision/Blizzard will make them more competitive against Sony.

Got all 1000 Koroks and peeked at some interactive maps to find map locations I'm missing. Ended up with 99.70% map completion which is somewhat annoying but I cba trying to find those last 8 or so locations ![]() Moved on to D4 It was an enjoyable gaming experience but I feel very little incentive to buy DLC or ever replay the game. Unlike other Zelda games which I've played 5+ times and still feel the urge to replay every so often. In fact TOTK has me itching to replay aLttP, OoA, OoS and aLBW. Link's Awakening would also be on that list but I've replayed it when the Switch version came out and that's somewhat recent. Those 5 are and always will be peak Zelda for me, unfortunately I don't think we'll be getting new 2D Zeldas soon. TOTK had some nice concepts but also very many small frustrations. From the shitty early game (weapons breaking too soon, tiny stamina wheel, less-than-ideal sky island tutorial, ...) to the clunky controls, joycon drift (grrrr), and certain mechanics like NOT BEING ABLE TO CLIMB IN THE RAIN. And the dungeons are shit, but I've whined plenty about that already. Decent game, not near GOTY for me, but it'll win comfortably anyway I'm sure ![]()

The MS ATVI merger is a gift that keeps on giving. I knew that mobile is dominating our little hobby but 70% market share is bigger than I thought. PC is bigger than console + handheld market now as well.

Lots of small issues with the game (among them: the controls are pretty bad and needed simplification, feels to close to BotW, that damn fucking horse) and a very big one: in a world where FromSoftware exists, I don't understand how you can make such awful combat in a AAA game. And before I get jumped on, no I don't want necessarily want to dodge roll in Zelda. But I'm positively certain they can do much, much better than that. Also, breaking weapons is still the single worst design idea in a video game, ever. But there's the rest, the exploration, the moments of grace after having jump from a tower, the cool puzzles you finally find the solution for. Far from "the greatest game ever made" as the press calls it. Not even GOTY material, not with BG3 on the horizon. But a decent game overall. Let's see if that changes when I progress more in the story.
