will this be good tho? im debating buying a new pokemon game for my switch and was considering getting this over one of the D&P remakes but then read people saying this goes in a completely different way, no gym or story focus, but more on research (ie battle the same pokemon x amount of times, observe pokemon do this or that) in order to progress into more "story" (research in reality) and that worried me a little bit.

i havent exactly kept up with the news so i ask you guys, as somoene who liked the orignal pokemon experience, doesnt mind grinding and freaking hates dynamax cringe stuff, should i go for D&P remakes or wait for this one?

I haven't played Diamond and Pearl - I've only played the first 2 generations of the standard Pokemon games (and Shield, and a bunch of spin-offs) - and I heard that the new Diamond and Pearl games were pretty much what D&P players expected, and were reasonably satisfied with them. The new Arceus game has huge potential, but I have absolutely no idea how good it'll end up being, so I'm trying not to set my expectations too high. If you like the original Pokemon experience, I've heard D&P is a pretty good Switch version of the cookie-cutter Pokemon formula. You may want to play that in the meantime (after watching some YouTube reviews of Switch's D&P), and if you're uncertain about Arceus, feel free to wait for the Arceus reviews, just to be safe

thanks for the input! That is pretty much in line with what im thinking now.

Will most likely get one of D&P for that old pkm nostalgia feel, even tho i've never played the originals of this gen.

Now time to check the version exclusives and make a decision :D

Paper Mario 64 has been a blast on the switch! I never played a paper mario game, but loved Legend of the Seven stars when I was younger. This game is definitely a worthy successor. I can't believe how often I'm changing my partner before and during battles and the badge system is great. I'm about to wrap up chapter two now. If anyone has any suggestions about first time playthroughs I'd love to read them.

I haven't played Paper Mario 64 since around the year 2001 (it's not in my annual/biannual rotation of N64 games), but I still remember absolutely loving the game, and exploring all the different strategies and combinations I could make with partners and badges I should probably play it through again, when I have the time, especially since it's on Switch!

Being able to save and restore game states has amplified my enjoyment of N64, SNES, NES games purely because I can finish them now as an adult lol. I just don't have the time to play through them as is. I still keep a code of honor though. If I take hits and don't defend them right, I accept those consequences. But if I get down to 1 hp and need to run through a dungeon back to a heart area without starting a battle then I def use it to help me escape lol.

On platformers I def rewind bad jumps so I don't have to restart the level :D

I'm playing Bug Fables on Switch now, which is a fun game that's very similar to Paper Mario 64. If you like Paper Mario, you'll enjoy Bug Fables

I don't have it, but apparently not:

"But it’s got the same processor and display resolution as previous models, meaning you won’t see games perform better or look sharper on a TV on the OLED version." https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/12/cnn-underscored/nintendo-switch-oled-review/index.html#:~:text=It also has twice the,TV on the OLED version.

I want to get the Switch and Arcues / Sword & Shield just to get back into Pokemon myself, although I feel I would like PvP a lot more, if Arcues has no online features and no PvP it may be a turn off for me, but it looks really interesting regardless, the new Pokemon Snap as well.

Just started Pokemon Legends: Arceus on the Switch, and the first few characters said to me "You look like you're 15 years old, so you should work for us, full time, but if you can't prove your worth within one day, we will kick you out of our village and you'll die alone." And these are the GOOD guys lmao

I'm only like five minutes in; I plan on playing quite a bit this weekend though, so I'll have a better feel for the game within a few days

Now that I've played it a little more... I'm absolutely loving Pokemon Legends: Arceus

The original trailers made me worry that a lot of the open-world exploration would be mostly empty or boring, but there is way more content than I had expected:
-A great variety and frequency of Pokemon across all generations;
-A nice difficulty spectrum, from "one-shot ezpz" to "omgwtf run away" wild Pokemon;
-A ton of materials to collect and craft and customize;
-A lot of (optional) depth involved in completing the Pokedex;
-Plenty of additional NPC sidequests related to exploring, battling, and collecting.

The environments, main town, and music are all positives, for me. Having battles actually occur in the real world, rather than cutting to a separate battle map, and having wild Pokemon actually react to you (the player) are really nice additions to the game. Getting to choose how you interact with Pokemon (catching from afar, engaging in battle, distracting with an item, etc.) creates really fun and innovative strategies, and you learn to be flexible if you want to catch 'em all (since all the Pokemon have different personalities and levels of aggression). Watching a pack of Psyduck do Psyduck-things in the wild was absolutely hilarious!

I don't care that the graphics aren't in super-HD 4K resolution (that's not what I personally value in my video games), and I haven't really experienced any significant framerate drops. There are a few oddities in the battles that I'm not a huge fan of, though. For example, if a trainer sends out their second Pokemon after you kill their first Pokemon, you no longer have the opportunity to switch your own Pokemon or do anything else before the opponent gets a free attack (or four), which means your Pokemon can be automatically knocked out, and that Pokemon won't receive any experience for the battle. That's a little frustrating to deal with, although your entire team of Pokemon always receives experience when battling (or even catching Pokemon without battling them), as long as they haven't fainted, and within a few hours of playing, you end up being able to very quickly traverse the land or even warp to bases where you can heal/revive your Pokemon. Having a little risk or occasional punishment isn't a huge downside, in the grand scheme of things.

I'm fairly certain that Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be somewhere in my top ten favorite Nintendo Switch games, so far. I can already tell that I'll be playing this game for at least 50 hours (maybe even 100+ hours), and I'm really excited to see what else the game has to offer

Here are some screenshots (uploaded through my phone, so not the best quality):

My pleasure! I also just learned that Pokemon have a pool of learned/unused skills that you can swap in and out whenever you want, so while you still only have the traditional set of 4 during battle, you can customize and rotate them with other skills between battles, and then bring the old ones back in, if you want (so you don't have to worry about skills permanently disappearing). Little quality-of-life improvements like that really add up, for me

This all sounds pretty sick, I’ve been looking forward to playing with with kiddo (he turned down getting Ruby/Pear lol because he was only interested in waiting for Arceus

I’ve been avoiding reviews because I want to go in fresh as possible, but DPB has sold me. Will let the rest of you know how I find it
