Damn DPB now I want to buy it too.
I have only ever played Pokemon Yellow on my original Gameboy (and emulated on my phone)

I only ever played Gens 1 and 2 (and some spin-off games), so I missed a lot of newer Pokemon/games over the years, but I still feel comfortable in PLA

Is Arceus any good? I haven't bought Pokemon games in a while because I feel like Nintendo has been sooo lazy with the franchise.

read the last few posts in the previous page, there is a review on it by one of the members with a cool summary of what it feels like in several areas.

That sounds really interesting. My backlog extends to June so I'll be getting Pokemon Arceus then. Of course, any sale might make it cut in line earlier.

I'm having trouble with games like BOTW that require tons of crafting components and making recipes. I find that part of a game tedious and boring lol. I prefer loot more Borderlands style. I'm assuming Pokemon Legends: Arceus falls into more of the BOTW style of things which feels like a pretty big deterrent to me.

I dislike craft-heavy mechanics too, but from what I've experienced so far, most of the crafting is completely optional in the game. In fact, I've pretty much only crafted different types of poke balls and some healing items, since there are so many materials in the wild and I don't feel like wasting money on them. They made crafting really streamlined too: you just click on a recipe and it'll auto-craft as many of the item as you want (provided you have enough materials), without needing to search your inventory or stash and select anything in particular. Even crafting multiple item types takes a total of a few seconds, so I've never had to disrupt the flow of my game to allocate extra time to craft things.

That's partly what turned me off Monster Hunter when I tried it on the 3DS a while back. I had just quit WoW at the time and it felt like raiding while having to farm my own flasks.

I fall on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to tedious recipes and crafting. In BOTW u could discover new recipes by talking to townspeople or reading posters in inns (sounds boring, fair enough lol). But I find it world immersive.
I absolutely loved botw. I think it’s the only single player game where the $60 is worth it (I bought it for like $40 though). I have 300 hours clocked in that game. Playing it without UI and having to rely on sound cues and links reactions during hot/cold weather is also something I adore. The physics engine is also unmatched
Damn now I just hyped myself up for another playthrough.

The smooth combat of Horizon or God of War on top of the incredible depth regarding storytelling and graphics make it kind of hard to appreciate BOTW. Even a game like hades has such a better combat system that is intuitive and makes sense. I would have loved exploring BOTW so much more if I didn't feel like the combat was so difficult to master. Mind you, I work and have kids, so when I play for 30 minutes every couple days, having to try and master the rigidness of BOTW is just really hard to do. (I haven't played any other Zelda games since Ocarina or older).

Agreed about BOTW combat. It’s a steep learning curve but once u get over it it becomes completely trivial.
I just finished a PC playthrough of GoW and the combat learning curve was perfect. You gained new perks and chose which tree u wanted to branch into. Doing hack n slash combos to stagger them back—throw the axe then recall it to stagger them forward—chef’s kiss.

I play single player games almost exclusively nowadays and I need a good mix of story and progression systems to keep me motivated to continue playing. I enjoyed BotW for maybe 80-90 hours but eventually got bored and just finished the story. Pokemon Arceus looks like it may scratch that rpg progression itch for longer than that. We'll see.
My biggest issue with open world games is the story has to be extremely simple to accommodate players being able to do things in a non set order. Plenty of them also have background systems where the enemies level up and get stronger alongside the player. The nerd in me just spots those fairly easily and they kill my motivation to do all the farming and such. It just feels pointless.

Finding it difficult to resist the temptation to play my copy but think it would be cooler for us both to start the same time together, so looking forward to that

That sounds like an awesome plan! The first half hour is pretty slow (introductory dialogue, setting up the story, making sure you really understand the basic controls, etc.), but once you're let off the leash, it's so worth it
