Here is an updated personal tier list of all the Nintendo Switch games I've played (S rank is the best, then A+, etc.). I strongly recommend everything that's S, A+, or A, and would still recommend anything with a B+ or B too. C+ or C ranks become hit-or-miss, and I don't recommend wasting any time with games I've ranked as a D or F.
Some particularly noteworthy updates: -Hades is a seriously phenomenal game; -Super Mario 64 is thankfully being fixed through patches; -Currently playing both Super Mario Sunshine and Trials Of Mana; -After SMS and TOM, I'll be moving on to the full release of Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity (the demo was really fun), and then three platformers I'm super excited about: Super Mario Galaxy, A Hat In Time, and Ori And The Will Of The Wisps. -By the time all these games are finished, the full version of Bravely Default 2 should be released, which I hope to enjoy as much as its demo, BD1, and Octopath Traveler. (These are also some of the games that have inspired the RPG I'm currently developing.)

I will say I got through chapter 1 of octopath traveler for all of the characters, but then I started to hit the grind to get ready for the next portion, and because there isn't any XP sharing and you have up to 8 characters and 4 party slots with 1 locked, you can't even have 2 main parties, because there's going to be 1 rando that's left sitting on the bench and I found that super frustrating and grindy and ultimately kind of stopped enjoying it so I stopped playing

Definitely a fair point. I think what I had done was essentially split up the 8 characters into 2 completely separate parties of 4, and play half of the game (4 stories) with one party, and then the other half of the game (4 stories) with the other party. The fact that the characters basically had 4 different special abilities (with each ability being available for 2 different characters) made this work pretty well, although I had to double-back / rotate a few characters for some special situations (like Therion opening all locked chests).

I guess that's true, I can just beat it with 4 people and ignore the other storylines, that way I can rotate out the main character which I believe is doable. I'll see if I get motivated to start it again

Also quit Octopath, found it seriously boring. It’s not due to the genre because once upon a time Golden Sun 2 was my favourite game ever, Octopath is just terrible imo.
Fairly agreeable list otherwise, no Astral Chain or Xenoblade?

Haven't played AC; I tried and hated XC2, hence the low ranking (C+). Unplayable for me.

I wouldnt call Octopath Traveler boring. It's just that the story is not compelling at all unfortunately. Battle system, design and music is awesome

I think the biggest flaw in Octopath is that the 8 stories aren't really intertwined.

They actually are, it's just that none of the connections show up until the post-game, which is kind of a mind-bogglingly stupid design choice. Why would you go through the effort of connecting these stories, then show the player none of it until they've beaten multiple characters' stories?
I actually really like the game, but it a) is not at all the game that Square Enix advertised it to be (S-E clearly tried to market it to people nostalgic for FFIV-VI when its design sensibilities have nothing to do with those games) and b) asks players to put up with a LOT of bullshit before you get any payoff. I really can't blame anyone for disliking it.

Yeah I agree with that. I hope that Bravely Default 2 will have a solid storyline (the demo was promising); I really like the battle systems of these games in general, plus the music and the artwork.

I just mostly used my lowest leveled characters and rotated them. They caught up pretty fast. There's enough stuff to do in the game to level all the characters.

I liked the game too but I think it is an experimental game where they tried a lot of different concepts. Battle system is great. There are just a lot of little things that hopefully a sequel can improve upon. It just needs the polish that making additional games like it can provide.
I remember that the post-game quest that connects all the stories is somewhat hidden too. It's easy to miss unless you consult a guide. Some of the connections between the characters' stories are easy to miss as well.

I'm curious on your thoughts on XC2. I got it, hated it, and then I got to where the combat system clicked (when you get your first companion). Completely turned my thoughts on the game around. It's no masterpiece, and the story is not as good as it could have been, but it's still a really solid large scale JRPG.

I enjoyed XC2 in the end but I think it is merely ok. The combat eventually clicks but I think it is a classic example of an overengineered combat system. It reminded me a lot of FF13.

Been playing through the new Paper Mario, finding myself really seriously enjoying it. They swapped out the annoying sticker mechanics for a genuinely interesting puzzle battle system, and the writing is just A+ funny, as always. So far, I think it's pretty awesome.

Graphics and music were solid, and the introduction was interesting (if not very drawn out). I found significant issues with the controls, the battle system, and the UI, which I simply couldn't put up with any further after about 10 hours of playing the game. I honestly would have stopped after about 2-3 hours, if I hadn't dropped so much money on the game and wanted to get *something* out of it. Unfortunately, all I got was disappointment. Having the entire screen filled up with cluttered bars and buttons, the needlessly-complex-yet-you-still-auto-battle-with-frustratingly-oppressive-AI engagements, and even just general movement... they all detracted from my experience. I typically don't mind exploring and figuring out all the controls on my own, but I think XC2 did a uniquely poor job at scaffolding me, as a player, into learning things that they really needed to make clear. If I enjoyed the battle system, the game would have been solid. For me, personally, this game is a miss and not a hit.

The combat of Octopath was probably the best it can be for a turned based rpg. It's fantastic, like a chess game, you really have to think ahead.
Fantastic game

Why people hold Nintendo to such high standards is beyond me. They have proven they are scumbags time and time again.

To me, Nintendo have always been the "backward biblethumpers" of the gaming world. Consistently lagging behind everyone else.

I wouldn't exactly expect a gaming manufacturer to look the other way when a tournament is being held with illegally copied / pirated / modded versions of its game. This tournament actually breaks copyright law under the DMCA afaik.
It's one thing to complain about Nintendo not proactively supporting the Smash community; it's entirely another thing to criticize them when they shut down something like this.
Nintendo has plenty of flaws, but I think the tournament organizers are the ones at fault in this specific situation. Game manufacturers don't need to allow this kind of thing, even if the community has its heart in the right place.

Apparently players, and staff are confirming such statement. Some are still legally unable to do so.
