What you're seeing is the impact of being a Nintendo title. The prices on new copies of their games almost never drops, and if it does, it doesn't go far. This means sellers can sell them higher than other games because you're still saving money in the end.

The space where the 3DS thrives is that developers can develop games with the content of a AAA console/PC release, but with the budget of a AA title due to the low hardware demands of the system. This is reflected in the $39.99 price point of basically all retail 3DS games. You couldn't make a game like Pokemon, Monster Hunter, or Fire Emblem thrive on a mobile platform because the mobile market isn't interested in paying $39.99 for what's essentially a AAA release for weaker hardware, but that's precisely the segment that the 3DS hits and also a segment that the Switch will be able to capture as well.
It will? Genuinely curious. Are developers going to make games that barely use any of the potential of the system or screen? I agree the 3ds thrived in a perfect environment, and it's the reason the 3ds is maybe my favorite console of the last like 15 years. The simplicity but fun of "simple" games like link between worlds, FE's, Fantasy life, mario 3d land are what is missing from games this day and age. I fear that will get lost when developers have far far more power, and people might have far more expectations. Not to mention games actually came OUT on the 3ds because of the lower budgets and costs. Has nintendo said anything about this? Also, the thing isn't very portable really... not compared to a 3ds. I mean, look at Shovel Knight. It hardly pushes the limits of WiiU, Switch, PS3, PS4, home computers, Vita, XB1, Amazon Fire TV, or the 3DS but it sold on them.

The Wii U was a failure only because it had terrible launch titles (no Zelda game, no Mario Party, no Mario Kart, no Metroid, etc.). That is really the only reason. The Switch is going to have great launch titles, so in all likelihood it's going to be a smashing success. Wii U's failure can't just be pinned on lack of launch titles, as the 3DS had a similarly poor launch library. Lack of marketing and stronger internal focus on pushing the 3DS are better explanations, IMO. The Switch was likely conceived in order to try and carry Nintendo's success with the 3DS to the home console space. Having one hybrid console to promote rather than two separate systems also makes life easier for Nintendo's marketing department. Regardless, the idea that Nintendo is out of touch or behind the times seems to disregard the fact that the 3DS outsold any of the current-generation home consoles by a fair margin. Nintendo is pretty clearly doing something right--just not the Wii U. Hopefully we get a lot of older characters like narcian and hector

I'll be doing the same thing Yango is. I didn't buy the 3DS at launch. The DS still had enough good titles released that I bought the 3DS more than 18 months after launch. My library is mostly Nintendo and Atlus games, which are plentiful on the 3DS. I'll be buying the Switch after the first can't miss title or sometime down the road once its library becomes bigger. I can wait to play the next Zelda next year and I think Pokemon Stars is just a Sun/Moon rerelease.
We'll see. The only console I currently have is a hand me down PS3. I'll be buying this as a 3DS replacement. It's a little pricey for a handheld but I'm hoping there's a price cut by next year.

The line-up didn't blow me away, but it looked good.
When pokemon and all the handheld studios arrive, I think it could be destined for greatness.

The 3ds ? Pricey ? ?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿? If they're buying it as a 3DS replacement, it's a $300 replacement.

So expensive (?)

I really hope Nintendo doesn't get a free pass for charging 70 dollars for their Switch Pro controller.
|
You have to assume that 70 for the switch pro means they were trying to reduce the actual console price
I guess 🎮
|
I think the only reasonably assumption is that Nintendo wants to charge 70 dollars for a 2 buck piece of plastic.

I guess 🎮 The systems aren't being sold at a loss. The cost of the pro controller will all come down to how much of the tactile feedback system is put into it, for me, when it comes to reasonability. If so, it's only $10 more expensive than a set of joycons.

The nintendo switch seem very cool! I love all the game mode. But like mostly all the nintendo console that I own, there are 2 or 3 games that are very interesting.
I didn't see any stylus option. It would have been a cool feature if they would have want to launch something similar to super mario maker.

But if they don't include the stylus in the bundle, i doubt they will create/develop games that require one.

I will keep saying "it's just a 3 min video for the mobile app". On wednesday I'm going to flip or go "meh, no big surprise this is FE now"
|
what makes you think that because FE is now getting a smartphone game means "this is FE" ala FE is dead to me ? I just dont get it
