It's a shame the arena is so focused on running guys with big base stats.

I've been running Gunter + Abel + Olivia + Clarine (all 4* unfortunately) for offense and it's pretty fun even if it's not optimal. You can put massive amounts of buffs on Abel (+9atk/+6speed every turn with situational stronger buffs) then give him 2 turns with Olivia's dance. Olivia's a lot of fun to play with even though her low stats make her not ideal. Abel and Gunter are monsters with the chance to act twice and a potential double heal with dance solves a lot of problems. The biggest problem I've had so far is the map where your team starts split up in opposite corners.

If only there was a calvary unit that had Dance + attack buff I'd be set.

The team is, of course, trash on defense because of the AI.

Now that Narcian is a bonus hero, I figured I should rank him up to 4*, so I did. Then I leveled him from 1-20 using shards and he only gained at most 10 points for any one stat. His hp is at a measly 25 and his def and spd are barely better than Cherche, who has waaaaaaaaaay more atk. You suck, Narcian.

Odin sucks about as much as Narcian. I was leveling my 4-star Odin for arena... but gave up once I hit level 21 and realized just how bad he was. He had difficulty killing enemies he had color advantage against as his attack is super low. Sure, he can get bonus attack for buffs put on him, but the payoff for that effort makes his attack equal to RobinM that doesn't require a complicated setup.

So I went with plan B. I did arena with my level 21 Odin who was an excellent cheerleader. Using an effective team of Lucina, Nowi, and Tharja, I took only a single death on an advanced run. This was possible because Odin's bad stats made gave me weaker opponents that would often run a healer that I could kill for free. The one death was due to the map that splits your team into groups of two on opposite corner. >< Easiest win was a game where my opponent only had 1 unit that could really damage my Nowi. Picked that unit off and let her 1 v 3 the remaining AI forces.

That gave me a score of 4,199 and a current rank of 5,560. Hopefully that is enough to be ranked at the end as I don't anticipate being able to do better. Not going to waste my orbs on the Family Bonds summons and I don't own Catria (the only decent unit that doesn't force one to waste limited orbs). If I level my Odin to 40, he still won't be able to contribute in battle and it will make doing 3v4 much more harder. Screenshot of the run as it ranks now:

Hopefully next week is better for Arena!

That's clever, although I'm surprised your score at the end was only 4199 with only one death. Maybe your score goes down since Odin's a lower level...? Idk. I got 4159 earlier today with lvl 40 5* Nowi/Marth/Julia and lvl 38 4* Sharena, and there were at least two rounds where I lost two fighters each, so I dunno how that math works out.

Honestly I really don't find the 3ds characters very memorable... I've been saving up my gems for tellius characters (tho i do have a soft spot for the gba lords, who somehow have managed to escape my rolls).
can i get my estro logo back pls

I'm also running my underleveled bonus heroes in arena, but yeah what's up with all those healers that I'm seeing suddenly? Always a free kill basically, for not much return.

Depends on the stats but my Lissa is pretty beefy and has attack magic as well. She also regens 10 hp every 3 turns and gives +4 attack with her Kindled-Fire Balm. I am sure if I was worried about better defense I would go change around and make a stronger team.

Healers have less overall stats than other characters. You are matches against opponent's based on your overall character stat score vs their overall character stat score. Since your overall stat score is below the normal level 40 team due to a low-level bonus hero, it matches you against teams with a similar lower stat score which are often that way due to running a healer. So... the teams with healers have always been there. Just your non-healer level 40 team in the past had too many overall stats in the past to be matched against them.

Also: New character released today: Robin (Female) that is a green tomb user designed to counter cavalry and blue mage units. Available from the "Special Maps" section, the hard battle is actually really hard. Took me three attempts just to find a unit that could survive the initial onslaught. (For me, that was Lucina, as she survives the Blue mage, Green Axe, and Geen RobinF with ~10 HP and then she regenerates 10 HP on the next turn as I attack the turn before her passive would trigger).

It seems natural to me to have 2 different teams for offense and defense. You don't really need 8 good characters to do that, 5-6 are enough. In my defense team I just put things that I struggle most against as offense (I haven't thought hard about defensive strategies a lot yet, this usually nets me enough points), but healers (and armored units, lawl) are not that.

People running their Hector/Effie in defense is a bit sad :/. I'll take the easy points though.

Edit: Yes Bluewolf, I get that, I just meant, why are people running healers in the first place (in defense)?

I did the Robin(F) challenge with the usual nino + dancer combo .

How do you set a different team for defense? Is it just the last team you did arena with?

Also for RobinF I used my level 40 Julia with Nowi defense boost and Sharena attack + defense boost to survive the initial attack. Basically no way to avoid getting hit by three different color enemies, so it's got to be someone tanky.

Your defense team is your team in slot one. If you go to edit teams, there are little dots to indicate which one is slot one (it isn't listed anywhere else).

Thanks, I hadn't managed to figure that out until now and whenever I wanted to train a char I would make a new team, then delete it when I was done to make sure that wouldn't be my defending team

Hard Robin was easier than hard Narcian, presumably because my team has reached lvl 40 by now. Send a tank in enemy range, have a red melee behind him and a strong ranged unit behind that one. On second turn, move the red melee to kill f Robin, move the ranger to kill the blue mage across the pit, that should leave 2 enemies. In my case they both attacked my red melee, Lucina, and she survived with 1 HP the next turn, yay

I'm having a lot of trouble beating the lvl 35 female robin quest, i spent alot of time lvling up our starting characters
as i didnt get a 5* for a long time, so i have the blue lance lady at lvl 39, the worst red sword users at lvl 39+, nino at 39+ and jakob lvl37+ everyone is 4 stars.

In my second party i have (my 5 stars) but i only got them recently
Tiki lvl 31 (young), Eirika lvl 29, Olivia lvl 20 (4 star), Nowi lvl 5 (4 stars) and Camilla lvl 29+ (4 stars)

Now my plan so far is to lvlup Nowi, oliva, nino and this healer guy called azama (4 stars) so i can heal through the damage and then use nino + oliva's dance to kill everything, nowi is too provide the defense bonus.

What do u guys think should i spend time on lvling them up to lvl 35+
I found this video maybe i should follow what he did but im not sure if i can get to lvl 40 in time, hopefully i can

Is it supposed to be painfully slow to level up once you're ~20+? Or am I missing something...

I carried myself through most of normal and hard with 2 5* (Marth / Takumi) and 4* Kagero, which are all ~30 now, and never really knew what to do with my 4th slot. I've been trying to level a 3* Sully because having a mounted unit seemed decent but it's been a pain in the ass. Without heals she can barely take out 1 enemy of around the same or lower level per fight before needing to retreat. Which means like, idk, 1/4 of a level per training mission at best. Do 3* units just suck that much compared to 4/5*? Or is Sully just bad? Or is it really that slow and I just didn't notice with my "main" units because I was just booking it through story missions without thinking

I really want to try getting this Robin but I don't know if I can even get my normal crew to 40 in time, let alone craft some specific line-up to do the fight safely.

during the 1.5x exp patch, and even now it seems easy to lvl up 20, after that it can be a bit slow. Basically take ur dude with a bunch of other low lvl characters and grind them out on the training tower and remember IF THEY DIE NO EXP, so try to pull low hp ones back and u'll find u actually lvl up very fast. U should be able to lvlup lower characters so long as u dont party them with ur high lvl ones becasue they one hit everything and dont gain any exp at all.

I've been taking my higher level guys to training just as a safety net. I don't attack anything with them and try to keep them out of danger range too (so they don't counterattack and kill), letting my lower character(s) do as much as possible until they're hurt, then pull back like you said and clean up with the muscle.

@Shock710

What you can try to do is use the Nino/Olivia combo. Your Nino should be strong enough to one-shot one of the first frontline axe guys. What you do is one-shot the guy, move your dancer next to Nino, dance Nino away from fire, and then Nino can use her support ability from her extra turn to Draw Back the dancer to safety.

It allows you a pretty good start where you kill one unit but they actually can't attack back the next turn and are forced to move toward you instead. You can probably figure out a way to win from there. The biggest challenge is probably just resisting that triple attack from 3 colors the same turn. This trick makes that problem go away.

I'm not exactly sure, but you might have to level up your Olivia a bit because she might be under fire at some point in the subsequent turns. My own dancer was pretty high level and I'm pretty sure I used her to tank a hit or to clean up a unit.

thanks that seems like a pretty good plan ill go train my dancer up so she can stand the blows

you are a god man, i did it!!!! With just like you said, nino with the dancer who i let her stay at lvl 20, and then i used jacobk to rally defense and kill the red mage when he got too close! Fantastic trick.

I didnt get the narcian hard one, so im so happy i got this one, cant wait to lvl her up.

That Nino+dancer combo is very strong and I suspect it will continue being useful in future missions of the same kind.

That is much more accessible than the level 40 Julia "tank three mages" strat I employed.
