I filled my pokedex without 3rd party trackers, perfectly possible.
As for why Niantic doesn't want to bring these 3rd party tracker features into their game / actively fights 3rd party trackers with encryption, this is pretty obvious: People would complete their dex too quick and quit. I'm arguing with "old tracker + 3rd party" because that represents a period of time where 3rd party apps could still make server requests to Niantic at a reasonable rate. FPM was rendered ineffective together with most 3rd party apps after Niantic made a change server-side, leaving us with mostly just the "new tracker" now. I would obviously rate the old setup over the current one for the reasons stated above. I expected Niantic to figure out the reason behind the popularity of 3rd party apps and how it actually helps to keep the playerbase alive. I can definitely accept your positive experience of filling out pokedex without external help, and your rationale for not wanting these features in the event that players get bored too quickly. What I'm trying to say is that the 3rd party apps did the reverse by bringing in another element of gameplay, where the players have the opportunity to actively seek out whatever they want and actually do it physically and be out there. The current setup doesn't allow that and is huge turn-off. Players can't see jack shit compared to the past where the trash were limited to single instances on the sightings, and pretty much have no reason to explore further away from home. Sure, it's definitely possible to fill out your dex without the apps but it sure as hell was more fun when you get the thrill of running for something you really want.
You don't 'actively seek out and physically do it', when all you do is following an exact GPS destination with a timer. You just go and grab, there is no seek nor explore.

Got my Raiclaus yesterday
You know what would be a swell Christmas present? Restoring all my pokemon to full health... Half my bag is sitting at sub 50% or knocked out XD

Uh yes you do. I've ended up over 15 km away from home on one occasion because I just kept seeing interesting stuff that is on the edge of the third party app. It started with the usual charmander spawning across the road, followed by a dratini sighting down by a riverway, then a pikachu further out and 45 minutes later I'm completely lost in a neighborhood I've never set foot in because I see a triple lure. And then it all ended with an Aerodactyl sighting that made everyone run for it. All of this is done on foot. Definitely not possible with whatever Niantic gives now. Pretty sure this fits the definition of seeking new pokemon and exploring new areas both in-game and in real life. How would the current or old tracker make you do any of that?

I've pretty much given up on any serious gymming. If there's like a level 6 gym close to leveling up I'll bother or if its an enemy gym at level 2-3 I'll take it and place some chaff pokemon in there just for that days collection because its not worth losing all the hp on one of my high cp pokemon.

Exactly as you just said. Especially when there are not many stops around. Close to my work place, literally half of what I see is at more than 1 km away. I can walk all the way back to downtown where there are all the stop like that (and that's way more than a 45 minutes walk, or even run).
Also, you talk about third ap that don't get the restriction of the reach. Which is actually what I was referring to, but you seem to always forget the argument you gave that don't add up.

I agree, having nearby crowd out/overwrite sightings entirely isn't an ideal situation. I'm not happy with the in game tracking it its current situation either.
Third party apps make anything Niantic does "regressive" because they give a player access to information they were never intended to have in the first place. Mind you, information which actually makes the game fun by getting people to run from place to place within a timer. No other mobile game can claim to achieve that. It seems as if you prefer to walk 1-2 blocks max and give up on anything else outside that radius. But of course its too late to even bring the crowd back. You can already sense their desperation. Double candy, items, then xp all within a span of a few weeks lol. considering they did these events with their previous game, i am going to assume that it was a planned event rather than say something stupid like they are desperate. and it wasnt within a few weeks, they coincided with holidays. Oh really? With the exception of Halloween, double items and double xp were handed out to "celebrate" the game's new features and progress. These goodies are just going to come more frequently once the game is left with near 5% of its original playerbase. double xp/dust coincided with thanksgiving in the U.S. the double items was related to the release of daily bonuses, which is pretty much a norm for most f2p games. its pretty amazing that for a dying game, sprint/starbucks just gave them sponsorship money. but hey, you obviously know more than sprint/starbucks as to whether the game is succeeding, right? edit: spoiler, there will be another event for christmas. because they are desperate, you know? not because its another big holiday. I'm pretty sure I know what the sentiment is like on the ground, at least in my own country. We'll see. Meanwhile I'll hold on to my lucky eggs because I'm sure that they'll release double xp for another week soon. i apologize. i didnt realize you were the spokesperson for singapore. I almost mistook you for a spokesperson for niantic based on how you thought that sponsorship spoke volumes about the health of the game, but I guess they'll have to settle for you being their mouthpiece given the state of the game. I stand by my opinion that they've squandered a lot of potential of this game and turned off a huge segment of the playerbase based on many stupid decisions they've made thus far. yes, i am their spokesperson/mouthpiece..... that makes sense.... anyone who disagrees with you must be a shill....
lets remain on topic: your opinion that caused me to comment was that they were desperate, which is completely idiotic. they remain hugely successful. you may not like them, but the masses do. they have lost userbase, which is not only common but expected for mobile apps, but they are still raking in the cash, including two huge sponsorships this month.
we'll see how the week goes, but calling niantic "desperate" remains the single dumbest thing i have read this week, and that includes reading an article on market-timing.

i did try to rebuild my empire over the weekend since incubators apparently are mandatory for gen 2 babies, but all of the gyms were level 10 (my own team). lol. so, i currently have one gym and rake in a measly 10 coins a day (20 if im not too lazy to go outside in the cold to the gym across the street from my work).
i am taking time off from work for the holidays and will try to rebuild, but if valor stays at 10 all around me, nothing i can do since i dont multi-account.
long winded answer to your question, apologies.

Yeah, pristiging is actually back to 1000 now instead of 500 which is nice, though taking down a gym is still easy. I don't spend any money so I need to put effort in for coins/stardust. I've been saving coins/incubators since halloween, I managed to collect 8 10k eggs from a single incubator, I'll hatch them and use up all my incubators when gen 2 comes.
I have over 1500km walked but still don't have the egg achivement (480 / 500), its such a big disadvantage running only 1 incubator. I'm certain if I constantly ran 9 incubators since the beginning I'd have a lot of snorlaxes/larpras/dritini and other good stuff hatched, it's frustrating knowing people who spend money can walk 200 km with 9 incubators and hatch as many as I have.
|
Those 10k eggs were collected prior to gen 2 so they won't have the ability to hatch gen 2 right?

dont forget to sign up for google rewards. do a few surveys, get free money, use it to buy coins. its not much, but its free. i too walk around with only one incubator going usually. it wasnt too much of a bother until they made the gen 2 babies egg exclusive, which is a pain (especially for 10k eggs).

not bad for a "dead game:"
Trainers,
You know that we are fans of a little walk every now and then. That’s why we were excited back in September to announce that Pokémon GO Trainers had walked more than 4.6 billion kilometers since we launched. Trainers have since racked up some impressive stats.
We are pleased to share that—as of December 7—the Pokémon GO community has collectively walked more than 8.7 billion kilometers. That’s more than 200,000 trips around Earth! Fun fact: A commercial jetliner would take more than 1,000 years to cover the same distance. While covering this distance, Trainers also caught more than 88 billion Pokémon along the way. That’s roughly 533 million Pokémon a day!
Get out and go this holiday season, and let’s add some more kilometers to that total! Thank you for your continued support!

Geez that Togepi drop rate is sad.
|
And we all know we're really here for dat Togepi. (At least I am.)
|
I despise Togepi.
Either way, sample size is too small. Nor do I trust the data being collected. I believe a lot of people to have hatched babies have stopped keeping track, making the luckier ones less likely to supply data. Meanwhile they people obsessing over it with little to no results are tracking everything to the t.
