I live in an LA suburb and didn't realize how many different churches of different religions there are in my area. It's not a "historic" area at all.

If since Gym pokemons will have astronomical strength compared to you if you join late gyms play an infinitesimal part in the game, honestly. the XP earned from gyms doesnt really add that much value compared to just running around. when i am around lvl 20, i am going to kick the little punk kids of of my neighborhood though. i see them sitting on the park benches at night. edit: by the way, the gym at my work, which was defended by two 1200+ cp characters was just taken over by another team. two of the three current defenders are below 500, and the highest is 1050. so, attacker's advantage.

Keep in mind that the Pokemon used to defeat gym trainers can be much stronger than the ones left behind after taking over the gym. There's no way of knowing if those 500 level Pokemon were used in the fight at all (it could have been 1500 level Pokemon to quickly wreck the 1200 level defenders, and then the new gym trainers could have left behind weaker Pokemon).
