It doesn't work while the phone is locked. I think it needs to be the main app open and not in the background while you are using another app.

Also, it seems to me that the GPS needs you to go a certain distance before triggering. Comparing the amount of steps I get with a pedometer versus distance, I don't get as much credit for walking around in a small area.

My GF catched Abra with first throw. My first Abra ditched after 1st ball but on 2nd occassion I threw Ruzz Berry at it and caught it with a ball.

Catching Abra was no biggie.

EDIT: Especially comparing to how maddening it was in Pokemon Red. Many Pokemons - especially if you're good with pokeball throwing and find one with low CP - can be caught with first throw.

went from level 10-14 last night.

lined up 10k and 5k egg, three lures at three close pokestops (thanks random people) and evolved about 12 pidgeys, snakes, crab looking thing and a couple others--all with one lucky egg.

anyone else's neck hurt from constantly looking down? god, i am getting old.

I did the same for 12-15 + some change. I didn't know you got XP for eggs. I just did it at home near no pokestops because it took me almost the entire 30 minutes just to get through all the evolution animations + catch whatever wandered by even without a lure nearby.

I caught an Abra no problem, I didn't even know he could teleport.

The frustrating thing about this game though, of course, is that catching one rare pokemon is pretty meaningless unless it's something like a Snorlax that comes at a high CP.

never played pokemon before so not familiar with any of this. =) it wasnt krabby, it was paras (just looked it up). i caught my first krabby yesterday too though (at work).

How do you line things up with the exp egg? I just got to level 5 this morning so I don't have one yet. I can only incubate one egg at a time.

The lucky egg is an item you use, not one you incubate.

The idea would be to have a ton of pokemon to evolve (and/or eggs about to hatch) then use the lucky egg and collect all that experience.

A bit of advice is to probably put it off as much as you can, as in gather as many pidgey's and other low cost evolution pokemon as possible. As you level up it takes more pokeballs to catch pokemon because of the higher CP and it'll start draining your pokeball supply.

So if you can wait as long as possible to cash in you can collect more and more pokemon when it's easier and get the most out of the XP boosting later on.

It's level dependant, I hatched him at lvl 19. You wouldn't get that CP at lvl 10

i used my first lucky egg at level 10. it was a gift from level 8 or 9, or something, i dont remember.

i put my 10 km egg in an incubator, i put a 5 in the other incubator, walked 5 km. 5 hatched, other has 5 kms left on it. i put another 5 km egg in the incubator. when they were about 9.5 km, i popped the lucky egg (it is an item, it doesnt get incubated). then i walked .5 km and both eggs hatched.

during that time, i also evolved all of the things i could (while lucky egg was active) and caught as many pokemon/clicked pokestops as much as possible.

bonus experience on everything!

i have another egg, but will save it for when i have more things to evolve.

i didnt make this up by the way, it was a suggestion i read on reddit i believe on how to fast level. so far the other suggestion (gyms) is not working for me because people are so high level around my area so i cant compete.
