My thoughts about this game were much better before finishing it. None of the factions suited me but i went with the glorious brotherhood of racism because they had awesome mechsuits and cool weapons. My normal playstyle would be a sneaky sniper but i wanted to try something new, so i went full demolitionist and shotgun to the face in a mechsuit approach. I thought there would be more factions and they would not be this exclusive towards each other.
Exiting the vault for the first time did not have the effect of fallout 3 for me but glowing seas and nuclear storms were cool. + Show Spoiler +
The arrival of the Prydwen was the best part of this game for me. The scene was amazing especially with the music. I noticed the shadow of the airship first and looked up to see vertibirds spreading around
I have played for 40+ hours and finished most of the big side quests. And repeating/unending quests from minutemen and the brotherhood are shallow and meaningless. There are already memes about this but while i am in Sanctuary, Preston says people in Sanctuary are having problems. I talk with a settler next to him and the settler says they are having trouble with raiders nearby(they know where they are but they can't do anything about it to be more precise) I look at the map and these raiders are at the fucking edge of glowing seas. When i kill them and return the Preston, my character says settlers in Sanctuary are ready to help the minutemen. They better help because Sanctuary Hills is the ONLY settlement i built anything.
I did not see anyone mention it before here but if you click left mouse button to skip other peoples speech to save time, your character says stuff like "a ha" or "hmm" and it is so annoying. Elder of the fucking brotherhood or a dying man is talking to me and my guy is like "yea yea" between each sentence.
Only thing left for me to do is visit some vaults and collect all skill magazines but i will probably start with a melee build later to do that.

You're pointing out that it's weird that you are saying 'yea yea' to a dying man and yet you are choosing to skip whatever it is that he's saying. I think it's absolutely spot on.
If you don't think you should be saying those things than give those men your time!

I am reading the subtitles faster than those guys talk and most of the time they are saying generic stuff like how i have to help them to create a better world. I actually shot elder maxson by spamming left click too much to skip his talk and he didn't seem to care that much so i guess they won't be offended with my "a ha" or "hmm"

Fallout 4 is ok - and a Fallout game being just "ok" is a huge let-down. I had tons more fun with F:NV, I dare say I even had more fun with the first "new age" Fallout (F3). The additions, like the new crafting system, settlement building and GARBAGE EVERYWHERE are just tedious and not fun for me at all. After ~15 hours I'd give it a 6/10 and never look back. 0 steps forward, 5 steps back.
First Dragon Age was ran into the ground, and now Fallout. Not a good time for an RPG lover like myself

Next stop Mass Effect (if it already is not run into the ground for you )
Nah, I came to understand that Mass Effect is just a 3rd person shooter and always has been. The scarce RPG elements weren't really done properly in the first one anyway; As long as the story is coherent and presented well I should be happy with the next installment.

Do you even play RPGs ? Pillars of Eternity, Divinity Original Sin 1/2, Wastelands 2, Legend of Grimrock 2, Witcher 3, Banner Saga 1/2, Shadow Run Hong Kong etc...
Theres even Torment Tides of Numenera coming also.
I mean, if this isnt a good time for RPGs, i really dont know what would you call the other years

I meant in the regard that great RPG franchises I used to be very fond of are being streamlined and dumbed down to their deaths.
Pillars of Eternity was good, so was Divinity: Original Sin (I'll probably give Enhanced Edition a go once they re-enable mod support). Legend of Grimrock 2 was ok, but super short. I didn't like Wasteland 2 (despite being the biggest F1/F2 fan ever), Shadow Run or Banner Saga.
I *do* have Witcher 3 (I stopped playing after 40 hours to wait for both expansions) and new Torment to look towards, thanks for reminding me of that

Come on, what 'great' RPG franchises are you even talking about? Bethesda's Fallout reboot was the best thing anyone could have hoped for for Fallout 3 seeing as the studio that made the first 2 games ceased to exist ages ago, whether you like the games or not the only alternative would have been a big fat nothing so what's there to complain about. Right now there are more 'big' RPG games coming out than pretty much ever, and with some of the Kickstarters being as successful as they were (PoE, Torment, Shadowrun etc), chances are there will only be more coming.

I just finished the main story at level 33. Spoilers below, + Show Spoiler +
The game is fun to play, just as Skyrim was. The dynamic of "quest-kill-loot-repeat" is used just as good here as well. I went for the BoS ending, and it was fun with the huge robot and all. However, I have two big complaints. One, is the new, horribly restrictive, unimaginative dialogue system and two, is the absolutely, absolutely terrible main story!! I got to meet my son at 60 years old, and then I came and destroyed his life, his work in an hour or so. Outside the first conversation which you meet him, I was not able to interact that much with him. Furthermore, he called his father's death "collateral damage". What the fuck Bethesda? He didn't give his mother a hug or kiss or interact in any other affectionate way, but he wanted me to fucking fetch a robot 5 minutes after meeting me. I decided there and then that I am not going to join his fucking Institute but that I am going to level this whole place.
And in the final mission, suddeny he's ill? Uhm, hello? When did he get ill in the first place? I had no idea! you are telling me when I'm about to nuke the shit out of your Institute. Anyway, I go into the place, readying to nuke the reactor core, and he's there in his bed, saying he's gonna die, and only asking me how I justified my actions so far. Uhm,, hello???? What about "how our life could have been if...", "I love you mom", "or how could you do this to me, I'm your son" sort of speech? What about closure? There was no closure just as no development of relationship between you and him. I'll try the Institute ending the next, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. God, this was so terrible to go through. Even Skyrim's ( a similar game in gameplay) main story was better than this, and at the time I finished it I thought it was pretty mediocre.
Overall, I think the game is a fun, open world shooter with RPG elements mixed in. I wouldn't rate it higher than 8/10 though, seeing how much a of a horrible story it's got. Obsidian's New Vegas did a much better job. There were conversation options for various skills, allowing you to do things differently. The main story, for the most part, was intriguing, especially the enigmatic Mr. House and his plans for the future.
This game has been really fun so far, worth its price. However, I was really disappointed with the main story.

but troika bit the dust and their last title vampire: bloodlines was an unfinished mess with great potential, but just incomplete and things missing left and right plus a billion bugs. yeah i dont think bethesda is the worst thing that could have happend to the fallout franchise.

It could have been purchased by a company that didn't nothing with it and then went out of business so the IP ends up in legal bankruptcy limbo for 5-10 years.
For anyone wanting to check out a recent real rpg - check out Age of Decadence. Made by some fans of the original fallout games and it's actually fantastic :>
This has probably been touched on numerous times in the thread so I apologize but, how is the shooting in this game? Is it more polished/fluid than in Fo3/NV? Is the game optimized well?

I find that the shooting is much better than before. The enemy AI is more interesting and tactical in a firefight, though stealth is still a little strange. Overall I find combat a much more enjoyable experience.
As for the optimization, it's decent. I have a pretty good computer and can usually get a good 50-60 FPS with some stuttering during certain weather conditions.

Shooting is vastly superior than FO3 and NV. The crafting is an awesome edition that allows customization of guns and melee weapons to suit your playstyle. (though far less customization available for melee weapons than guns)
Optimization is pretty shit, not too surprising coming from Bugthesda. Even on beastly rigs you'll get consistent FPS dips in certain areas. No FOV slider adjustment and other stuff. You can't turn off God Rays (as of right now the game won't let you go below "low" on God Rays....even when there is an "off" option, but as soon as you save the setting the game automatically takes it back to "low") at all until the new PC patch hits.
"The Mods will fix it" should be Bethesda's new company logo.
