So i've finished my first play through. I tried to do most quests. My build is
very hard (Survival mode has the same .5 damage to enemies, x2 damage from enemies) fists only (not allowed to use unarmed weapons) Only starting armor whenever in combat (did use +3chr suit at times) No VATS no agility, int or using charisma abilities to get more help. Guns/throwables are allowed if not targeted at enemies. Basically i can shoot things that blow up
I know it seems really dumb but these games never felt difficult enough. It makes each fight almost like a puzzle and quite fun. Finished at level 47.
I think the game is going to need mods to become good, i sank 50 hours into my playthrough and it feels like an expansion pack for new vegas. I'd rate it a 'meh' overall. Combat is slow and clunky, the UI feels like its made for consoles. Same with aiming, it feels like its for a controller. Perks are incredibly uninteresting. Building settlements has a limit to them and provide little to no benefit. It would be better to have 2-3 settlements with no size restrictions so you can build a city larger than dimond city. I don't like the insane level requirements for each perk, i never got to see the max level for any level 10 (and most 9) stats after 50 hours. Not counting the large number of bugs, I've had to use cheats ~20 times in my playthrough to get around bugs and glitches that actually broke quest and game progression.
edit: Forgot to add that you cant bind the keypad. I had to use autohotkey to use the setup i actually wanted to use.
I'm looking forward to a new vegas version of this game that fixes most of these issues and makes perks/combat better.
coming from wticher 3 - this feels really tiresome. i ve no experience with fallout franchise so far but the whole building sanctuary and stuff feels really shitty with controller or keyboard :x . the fighting the perks the everything feels weird, witcher seems way more "noobfriendly" but for me its more about stories and stuff and not be overwhelmed with seemingly clunky mechanics i really hope with mods coming it will be a better experience cuz currently it feels like my bucks were wasted

What did your unarmed damage end up being? Trying to do a one punch man playthrough but I'm not sure how high you can get unarmed no weapon damage

Yeah I'm not interested in that either. But since they got upgrade stations for armor/weapons/Power armor there, I unfortunately need to pay them a visit once in a while. I really don't get why a lot of game have this "settlement building" function nowadays. If I wanted to build a city I'd play Cities: Skylines?

Just like Diablo
Yesterday after 3 tries(Survival, No PA allowed) i managed to kill a legendary Deathclaw and it dropped a stupid lead pipe... Then i quit the game.
Im not too interested in the settlement stuff either, its annoyance enough having to scavenge random shit for scrap to craft my weapons lol, they dont make it easy to find the stuff you actually need.
Well that's the thing, if you bother to do a proper settlement setup, they're gonna provide you with the most needed materials and possibly all of them over time. Water farming makes pure water your currency, corn/mutfruit/tato food industry combined to that means you have infinite adhesives, which is like the main ingredient to any armor/weapon mod and scavenger stores just get you random crap that can have any of the other required materials.
Not to mention, if you go with the minutemen long enough and get to build artilleries in your settlements, you can have nearly whole map with artillery support coverage :D
the only thing i did for the settlements was using a batch file that gives you a 1000 of everything (junk)... it makes building much easier and faster, and much more fun.

With no armor, 10 str and +2str during day light i was doing 60 damage a punch.
With plus armor gear, deathstalker gauntlet and +unarmed damage left/right arm armor id get it up to 320, if not slightly higher. If i had modding to level 4 on armor i'd get the mod to do damage through armor on each arm. Expect fights to last forever, and you'll most likely end up disarming someone and picking up their gun so they have to fight you unarmed.
Im liking the game a lot, it has its share of bugs (i hate getting stuck, thank god for tcl), the dialogue system its exactly "good" (its pretty obvious) and sometimes i feel guns are kinda "off".
