I have to scroll down a mile to find the thing I want, I can't see which slot which armor piece will fill clearly, can't easily compare anything. It just screams console laziness. This will be among the first things I mod in FO4. Along with a "salvage all junk" in inventory screen button. I'm pretty sure Bethesda has never released a game with a great UI. The Elder Scrolls series is particularly well known for its awful UIs, and Fallout 3/NV/4 aren't much better.
This. I don't think it is console laziness I think it is just laziness in general. The Fallout UI has not changed really since Fallout 3, has a stylistic theme to it, so they see no reason to revamp it to something more functional. I agree with the notion that they could have looked at the UI mods for FO3/NV/Skyrim and seen what they could do to make inventory management a little bit more enjoyable, but alas.
The new looting almost makes up for it though. It is so nice to not have to open up every cabinet and drawer before you can see what is inside. That was a welcome change and an extremely common sense solution to a tedious part of old games, so I'm not sure why they couldn't do the same for the UI.
The UI for the settlement-building portion of the game is also horrendous. I wonder if Bethesda realizes that even though their games are extremely popular, fixing their UIs would elevate them from "pretty good" to "fucking great" for a great many people.

Ugh guys, I'm in a pickle. I'm stuck in a room with 1 way in and in about 10 seconds a Legendary super mutant skirmisher with a minigun will charge in. How do I kill him? I tried bazooka, lazer rifle/pistol, combat rifle I've throw just about everything at him minus a mini nuke. I hate legendaries so fucking much. That random full-heal mid fight called "mutation" is just bullshit, especially on an enemy such as this.
Halp pls

So for the Sanctuary quest we have to wait for the melons to be grown just turn them back into crops to plant? Even the Wild mutfruit that are found across the river can't be crafted into crops...

Can you send your companion out to tank him and run away so you can use mines/grenades and long range fire to kill him?

Don't know that quest, know most settlements have plants though.

I have no idea where dogmeat is D: probably whimpering in a corner waiting for a stimpack, which he is not gonna get. He's not much help vs SMutants anyway, gets rekt in 2 melee hits. I'm probably gonna wait until he enters the room then bolt out and sprint for the way out of the building. That or nuke him I guess.

Update: Holy shit I mowed him down with my own minigun. Gonna reload a few more times to see if I can spare some more ammo tho.
Nope, consequent reloads end with me dying :D not even winning. I guess that one time was a lucky break. Thank God for heavy weapons in close quarters \o/
Now to see where that damn dog went off to...

The game is OK. For some reason they just really wanted to throw all its problems at your face right at the start. The really poor power curve, mega boring and immersion breaking base building and modding and junk collection that all triple A titles have these days. There are some fun side quests that save this game although I can't help but feel that without voice acting a lot more could have been done.
e. oh and I hate that lockpicking and hacking are level dependant skills, and the leveling system in general is really lame

any idea where I can pick up a Brotherhood of Steel uniform?

You should've gotten one already, otherwise the Quartermaster?
edit: otherwise, when you exploring, listen to gunfights in the distance. Chances are good that the BOS are fighting mutants, just watch them die and take the uniform.

It's not random. Every legendary does it - when they mutate, they unlock their legendary actions.

Or you go exploring, and find the farm that's not even a minute walk away from santuary..
+ Show Spoiler +Go south from Sanctuary. Like, at the bridge. For 45 seconds. Voila, you found Abernathy Farm with like 20 Tato crops.

They could have just pasted SkyUI from Skyrim into the game for the PC version. The UI works decently on console. They didn't want to make 2 UI? This game has basically confirmed that I need to never buy PC ports ever again. It feels so terrible and companies don't want to make a second UI for the PC. That and it seems to hold back the graphics too. Want more straight PC games but that isn't ever happening with this climate.
This makes no sense, perfomance is still better on decent PC than "cinematic" (aka sub 30 fps) console one, and it's not like console Fallout 4 have better or different UI, they just have a pad. A pad, which honestly you should have on PC anyway, cause games like Dark Souls or Witcher 3 exists and they are just way more convient to be played that way. I'm not telling you that you should play F4 on a pad on PC, i still think mouse and keyboard is the way to go on PC for this game, it's just that your reasoning for not buying PC ports is erm, questionable.
Also weekend finally so i can play it without having to worry that i will like like zombie at work after game session. I think i will start a melee character (never really did that in F3 or FNV) so lets try it here and see how it works.
Oh, yeah, anyone knows if there is a mod that lets me skip the horrible opening tutorial stuff?

fallout doesnt run bad because of port, it runs bad because they ressurrected the gamebryo engine that should be dead.
consoles have fps problems as well. but instead opf going to 30 fps, they go to 10.

My personal tribute to FO4 is in verse, submitted a full two days late to Day9's awesome competition because Facebook.
I'm posting it here because I'm worried not enough people will be subjected to it otherwise. Brace yourself.
The Wandering Eye
I’ve a story to tell, if you’ve ears left to hear, About love in this radioactive frontier. How before you were born, I went into the ground, An experience fearful, sublime and profound And while frozen and stiff in that underground booth There congealed in my brain a remarkable truth: That though most, in the absence of peers, remain chaste Twenty decades on ice rather broadens your taste.
For.. while.. some may well consider that a Mantis has too fickle An approach to copulation for a spot of slap-and-tickle, She is fiery and capricious, not inherently malicious And presents but little danger to one adequately armed (For those int’rested: a roll of sturdy double-sided tape Tightly wrapped around the mandibles facilitates escape When a Mantis I would savour it’s the strategy I favour And in none of my romantic assignations was I harmed)
And the mole-rat for example, living proof that love is blind, Offers more than merely sustenance for one who’s so inclined While in packs they can be scary on their own they’re cute, if hairy (Though it’s vital to ensure that you have got them from behind)
Beyond superficial flaws a ghoul has much to recommend her She is flexible and supple and in places very tender (And I find her innate slowness is an extra added bonus, While the background radiation keeps her comfortably warm) If you meet a likely candidate and truly mean to have her, Simply spritz yourself unstintingly with Eau de Fresh Cadaver Though it’s true she can be vicious if she thinks you’d be delicious With the ideal choice of fragrance, watch her attitude transform! With the proper equipment this desolate land Offers welcome relief for my dominant hand. There’s boom bugs to bang and a Brahmin to woo This menagerie is my ménage à tous! There are Scorpionoidea, Centaur and vermin, All manner of creatures await to put sperm in! My story is done, and I bid you farewell. There is no more to hear; there is no more to tell.

And in case of Xbone, it looks horrendously bad on top. Haven't seen it on PS4 yet, don't really want to either.

Kind anyone give a hint on how to make caps? I played for around 15 hours now but I barely have 3000 caps. I found some gold bars that gave lots of money but that's it really. Any hints?

You got alot more than i have/ever had. ^^
You can build traders in your settlements, which generate caps slowly (very). You have to take them out of the Bench then. I assume, if you have a couple of settlements with 15+ residents, this adds up to like 250-350 caps per day. I only have two so far with 18 residents, and three shops each - 51 caps per day-ish. Supply-lined, otherwise you need to run to both settlements and collect.
Other than that, there's a mod on nexus that adds another "sort-function", namely sort by credits per weight. That might help you, just go around kill shit and fill your inv with the worthy stuff.

Thanks for your reply buit I am not really into the settlement things. If anyone finds like a big bank vault with tons of gold bars, send me a pm :D.
btw, did u guys take the perks that randomly give x3/x5 xp? I took it and upgraded to the x5 modifier and this even works on quests. I finished one quest at level 15 and got the mod and instantly jumped 1,5 levels lol.
|
Then, i'd say take all the +credit perks and barter perks, and go farming. I rather let farm, they find weaponmods etc too. ^^

what you do for money is industrialize the water production, then sell it to your traders who then (RP) ditribute it and give you even more money by sharing their profits with you.
get those water purifiers working and connect the settlements and youll have tons of purified water in the settlement inventory. Thats the only way i see settlements do anything other than producing materials, which you can do any ways since the water pumps dont need a worker.
yeah i took the xp perk, it pays for itself when it procs on 1 quest.
|
I have 3 industrial purifiers in sanctuary that never seem to proc me any water. The shops bring in a few caps every now and then, but the purifiers seem duds. Yes they are powered. I'm sad
|
thats strange, i restarted and even the normal purifier just gave me 20.
i think you do have to fast travel for settlements to do anything, though, maybe you are like me and usually walk everywhere.
