Anyone hyped for beastmen? Okay yea, I cracked and pre-bought the DLC, but I just last night realised I won't be able to play it today after all. Date night
Some interesting updates for the DLC patch as well, which can be reviewed in full here. The best part is the Siege Attacker trait, although as a frequent Vamp Counts player, I'm sad that only the varghulf got the ability. I'd like for vargheists, terrorgeist and potentially crypt horror to have it, to spare the one-round sieges to get a ram (which I don't even use - just getting it to be allowed to attack) early on.
I was actually hoping they would include some of the beastmen mechanics into chaos. Beastmen seem to be a bit easy mode chaos, but they also feature some quality of life improvements that could speed up the chaos playthrough a bit and lessen frustration. Currently there is just so much wrong when you come from tabletop and playing chaos in the belief that you are this extremely dangerous threat that is coming to destroy the old world. The fact that you cant really unite the north or have it as an reliable ally also kills the emersion quite a bit. Seeing the chaos influence in completely razed provinces vanish after there is no more army present since the rifts don't spread corruption/not enough corruption etc. (luckily there is a mod even though I feel like it makes ever ruin spread corruption and not just chaos rifts).
I am pretty hyped for them though. Gonna start another coop playthrough with chaos and beastmen since me and my friend would like to play proper chaos alliance and he isnt up to the challenge that the warrior of chaos provide.
EDIT: Also, that siege attacker trait really is an awesome quality of life improvement and will improve immersion so much, can't wait for the patch to drop.
So Beastmen are in the grand campaign, and they start as a horde faction right down there with those Estalian twats. It'll be interesting to see how that changes up the dynamics of the campaign map.

finished the new campaign on very hard with many minotaurs. prolly my fav totalwar unit ever it sucks that the lords get chariot mounts.. all chariots seem useless in this game compared to rome 1

Not sure about previous Total War games, but chariots are extremely OP as long as you keep microing them. You just have to never let them get surrounded and you are good to go. For example, the black coach according to everyone sucks but I wrecked countless numbers of chosen with just 2 of them. Had to micro them like crazy but it feels much more rewarding that way.

thats exactly the problem with them you have to have some really free time where u dont need to attend to any other units if u want to use them correctly in rome 1 if u issue an attack command on a single unit the chariots keep circling around that unit and pile driving into it over and over again without needing to micro
Well I started playing them on easy And its really easy. You don't need to defend anything because they are a horde and you just gobble up one province after another until there are only ruins left. I also love the units. Their infantry just smashes through the enemy ranks and their artillery beats every unit into a bloody gulp.
They are easier to play than chaos in my opinion and who doesn't love to play a pillaging raping horde that ruins everything! <3
As a noob I usually play on normal, but the grand campaign was surprisingly easy. I like the beastmen though! they are so fun, but damn their tech seems to unlock slowly or maybe I just went the wrong path.

lol, git gud
Jokes aside though, I get your point. This auto attack indeed sounds really neat, but I feel like there isn't that much to do in the fights anyways. Once the main line is engaged, there is only very minimal micro apart from cavalry charges/cycle charging so that I don’t have much problems microing my chariots, be it SP or MP while MP almost feels more controllable since you go for more sensible army compositions there so you probably end up with like 4 cav units at max. And cavalry I sometimes find even harder to micro since they can be much harder to free from an enemy then chariots. I have to agree that auto attack for chariots would be pretty nice to have as an option.
I feel like Kholek has a really terrible attention span. After 2-3 attacks at max he breaks contact with hit target if other enemies are fighting him and rather smacks them. Sometimes he doesn’t even attack once but just goes immediate for a different target. He feels like a gigantic kitten, just whacking at everything around him while pretending to follow your commands in some way. And whenever he is surrounded by enemies and I use his lighting storm ability, he loves to turn around and smack the exact same spot, making sure to push as many models out of the AoE zone as possible. Bad Kholek, bad bad Kholek! You are supposed to kill them off, not to be cruel by giving them false hope! When attacking a lord/some singe model he also loves to just push them around without dealing damage, like a kitten whacking at a mouse and “playing” with it until he finally just smashes it. Making Kholek focus on one target propably takes more micro then chariots lol.
Chariots are pretty good if you're able to drive through a unit and then hit it again from the back. Charging them into a big blob is usually a bad idea.

It's fun. I especially like the choices you face after each conquest, like insta-replenish and no growth vs extra growth but no unit replenishment. Makes for some tough choices sometimes.
Edit: Just finished the mini-campaign on hard and it was a blast. Took me ~260 turns because only near the end of it I figured out the winning strategy. Anyway, if anyone has any doubts about buying this DLC because of the price - don't hesitate, it's well worth it. The mini-camp is nice, the amount of new content is quite staggering for a DLC (it's more of a mini-expansion really) and you get new stuff for the grand campaign too (beastmen as playable faction with 2 different starting locations and if you finished the mini-camp you also get an additional named hero for the Empire - also usable in MP).
Has anyone played the grand campaign post beastmen DLC?
I know that they've changed AI unit buying priority but in the mini-campaign it seemed like it favored war machines heavily (stacks with 5+ mortars and 2 hellstorms/luminarks were not uncommon). It does mess up with auto-resolve (as in: favors the army with tons of arty) but is completely dumb against beastmen beacause with the beastmen ambush you start the battle right on top of them. It also makes siege battles against them extremely tedious at times...

Is it the same for Empire in the grand campaign?
Yeah, I have. It's not really much different. One thing that is incredibly obvious with the Beastmen is how CA has coded the AI to beeline the player as opposed to doing smarter things. Just dumb.
Also, I have concluded that the grand campaign is unplayable without the Radious mod. It just improves so many things, not the least of which are the unit rosters.
