True, I meant the vertical aim is pointless First of all, some of the best doom players did use the keyboard only, even a few of the best Q1 playes used keyboard only (for a while), although for most people it would be insane or simply impossible to compete in Q1 with keyboard only. Some of us (in Q1) moved forward with the right mouse button for a long time, and there were many other weird setups, even at a high level of play. The comment on duke nukem and autoaim hits me as strange. At competitive levels, firing "in someone's direction" is about as specific as attack-moving in bw. How do you hit someone exiting your room through a small window for instance (if you are so late you cannot hit him directly)? The answer, obviously, is that you manually target one of the edges next to him with splash damage. Try that with vertical autoaim. Even a person just standing on a ledge above you is hard to hit with autoaim. And Duke Nukem had plenty of vertical movement and splash damage. I don't think "keyboard only" survived any further than Q1 though, maybe a little while into quakeworld. I still don't understand how they managed to play that well without a mouse, but I know it required a lot of tuning of your config files (even more than for the rest of us). | ||

I remember the good old days of Duke Lan with like 10 of my friends, you had to run around spamming A and Z for jump and duck because it kinda messed up the auto aiming. | ||
