I actually prefer Quake 1 co-op to Deathmatch though. Taking shortcuts through the levels attempting to mimic Quake Done Quick is a ton of fun, and since there's no friendly fire you can be reckless and carefree.

A little off topic, but what was the FPS that first introduced the mouse as a movement + aiming tool? As opposed to the Doom days when you used the four arrow keys for moving, alt plus left/right keys for strafing, and some other buttons for firing.

Doom was played with mouse too

As for Quake2 having better jumping "tricks" i'll just say insane bunny in QW.

do you know what console command i can use to take off auto-aim?

i am using your config (aside from inverted mouse, and i use 'wasd' movement and f for impulse 6

it seems that when i fire a rocket at the ground (around the opponent ala. thresh), it re-centers my aim to fire the rocket directly at the players torso (center)... if he strafes he receives no damage whatsoever instead of splash dmg.

thanks

I'm confused on what to do after step 1. I extracted the QUAKE1 folder. But the files you mention in the next steps are already in the folder. They look like they're the same versions too.

the command to turn off autoaim within qw is no_aim 1

no thread about quake 1 is complete without mention of dm4.

these days the movement of quake 1 is insane. surfing off rockets, bunnyhopping like madman.

if you're not one of these godly insane hardcore people who kept playing for the last 8 years, i'd love to duel you.

The problem with DM games is that, assuming you play it online, you are facing a number of players who really excel at these games even if it's a pub, for a variety of resasons. DM scene is declining but those who still play them are the elites left, they are in it for a much, much longer time especially for games like QW and CPM, those are the among the fastest games and you also need a decent settings that's not generated by Quake. I found myself not lasting very long just like in Starcraft as everything move so fast (I use really low sens, since I play CS and other popular slow-motion shooters too, I found DM game experiences aid quite a bit when you go back to those slow games.

I'm pretty sure original Doom only had keyboard support. When it came out for Windows 95 it had mouse support.

The DOS version had mouse support but the sensitivity was always extremely low, even on the highest setting. People had to rely on custom mouse drivers (which were eventually banned from tournaments) to achieve "normal" sensitivity.

If anybody wants I put up a dedicated COOP server

71.204.247.154

Would anybody be interested in some serious oldschool action along the lines of doom2 dm/coop?
I went to the chippy last night and only orderd chips because I knew I could get fish from her bushy plate.

SV_autoaim 0 I believe, 1 or 2 give slightly different 'help' for players that have never used the mouse to aim before.

There is already a dedicated coop server. It's Coop.quakeone.com I believe. I will double check and edit if it's different.

He does make a point about how practicing on quake1 deathmatch can trememdously improve your skills in other games.

A few Clan Kapitol members are crosstraining quake1 with me to prepare for professional Q3 and Q4 tournaments.

Dont need hamachi, there are several tcp/ip server based versions of doom available now.

Looks like that coop server (coop.runequake.com) is running custom maps and such. The one I set up is more or less as vanilla as it gets, and ready to go from level 1, to reminisce in the days when you first opened up that cd. Plus since it's us, we can do whatever we want with it.

Maybe even convert it back to deathmatch later and just play each other, since im sure we all blow nuts.
