They should rearlly aim for that crowd, as I love both, earth and c&c, but from a cnc point of view this is very dissappointing. Damn, awesome find, thanks -Archangel- .

My point was that did everyone play only zerg because they were pretty different than any other faction in previous RTS games while Terran and Toss were more similar to those? But maybe I misunderstood what ROOTiaguz meant. Maybe he was talking from balance standpoint and things Goo is going to be too powerful and everyone will play Goo for that reason. If not, I like the teleportation ability of Humans and the Hand of Ruk is very cool Beta unit. Goo seems like a faction that needs more APM and effort and I am not good enough player for them.

Grey Goo is a real-time strategy game (RTS for short) with roots in classic strategy mechanics. Utilizing traditional base building as its core, the game aims to reinvent the modern standard of RTS gaming by placing emphasis on tactics over micro-management. By freeing players from having to issue hundreds of orders in a match, each decision is made more valuable and can mean the difference between victory and defeat. I am not sure if i like this "emphasis on tactics instead of micro" though, looks not that fun to me tbh :/. TBF i am not a very good sc2 players either, but even then, this game seems to be way too slow even for my playing abilities? Maybe the videos really give a fasle impression though, not sure

I am amazed that on this site focused on a RTS game nobody mentioned this game so far. The game has been brought up previously, but it really shouldn't be a surprise that noone is hyping it. What the majority of Sc2 community want more of is more quality-micro situations. Grey-goo makes it very clear that it isn't the direction they want to go. Not sure what target group they actually are catering too. Perhaps there is a very little niche that likes base building and building an army, but dislike controlling them.

I think there are vocal groups on other forums that don't like how APM-focused and eSport-y Starcraft is. I don't fault the developers for focusing on them. It may not cater to us, but it might cater to someone.

I don't know what you are talking about. Controlling the army is the whole point and it was in C&C. What they simplified is base management and they don't have spells. Single units most of the time don't destroy whole armies but your army compositions do. Well except if you build a ultimate unit but its cost and build time are such that good players will be able to punish you if you rush it.

A Grey Goo, NDA-ed, closed, invite-only alpha-test occurred starting July 1, 2014. This Alpha-test ended August 24. The game went back into development at that point. https://www.greybox.com/greygoo/en/forum/topic/860/ They promised to "open the game back up for public testing towards the end of this year". This did not occur. It looks like the company just ran out of money and decided to release the game without a real beta test. https://www.greybox.com/greygoo/en/forum/topic/1056/ With such a poor beta-testing schedule and execution I look for this game to come off as a low budget cash grab from RTS fans. No balance testing before releasing a competitive RTS game is a recipe for disaster. Even if a public beta test started tomorrow it wouldn't be long enough. Also, regarding the "from original C&C developers" in the title. The title is misleading. I don't blame the OP here because Petroglyph uses the "we're the C&C guys" bullshit tagline as a promo tool. Full and complete explanation below. Basically, most C&C devs got hired by EA and worked in the EALA studio creating lots of RTS games. + Show Spoiler + Petroglyph was formed without Brett Sperry or Louis Castle. It was formed from employees that EA did not want to keep after buying Westwood in 2003. At this point, very few ex-Westwood employees remain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroglyph_Games Both of Westwood's primary visionaries and original creators were long, long gone when this new game began development. Specifically, i'm referring to Brett Sperry and Louis Castle. Most Westwood employees became EALA employees. EA took most of the Westwood staff when they bought the C&C IP. EA used those Westwood guys to pump out lots of new RTS games.

This game does not want to compete with Starcraft 2 and Blizzard. They don't expect to become a e-sport over night. I think atm they don't even know how many people will want to play it. They hope for all the RTS fans that don't like SC2 because it is to micro focused and too competitive and hope for old C&C fans (like me; C&C 1 was my first multiplayer RTS while Dune 2 my first singleplayer RTS). They can easily balance the game better as more people play it and some meta starts to form. It is not like betas for Sc2 made Sc2 a balanced game. Blizzard made many changes in WoL at start. Roach range from 4 to 3? Removing Khadaryn Amulet and so on.

For most of us, a game like Sc2 is not fun enough when played seriously. Macro in Generals means you put up a resource building and it did everything automatically, you put productions buildings and you don't need to click on them to build stuff. Micro was less than Sc2 because everything moved slow and died fast. And very small number of units had active abilities. Tanks let you choose an upgrade after building them and most of the time that was that. Most micro I had to do was with Stealth Rocket Buggies vs China big tanks. Using air force was basically like macro in Sc2, you needed to go back to base ever so often to check out if they rearmed after the last run you sent them all. Compare that to using Mutas, Phoenixes or Banshee in Sc2. It takes 100x more micro in sc2 to use air units. Some of the commando units has some more micro needed but nothing close to sc2. I was a good player of Generals with only 50-70 apm. In sc2, I was low diamond with 70-90 apm (back in WoL when everyone was bad). And I had more fun playing Generals/ZH than I ever had Sc2.
