As an FPS this just doesn't make the cut. There are tons of great FPS games out there and without the MMO part this is just a ok-ish FPS where 90% of the hype comes from the fact it's Blizzard.
Why do you say that? It looks way more appealing and interesting than any other PC FPS coming out.
The only ""big boys" on PC is exclusively Counterstrike: Global Offensive. And as much as CS:GO is a great game, it's still the same basic stuff from original Counterstrike. This is something new. It's not trying to be CS:GO.
Yeah, 90% of the hype is because it's Blizzard, because they have an awesome track record. They're not going to let their game die like the developers of Dirty Bomb, which is a similiar class based shooter game.

How is this even being compared to csgo, csgo is a few bullets kill, 1 live only, having to plant the bomb in a modern day setting vs a fast paced science fiction assault mode shooter with various characters who have multiple special abilities. You have a gun in both games that you shoot in first person mode is all.

Both are FPS games, and since people haven't got to try the game yet discussion revolves around everything.
On the other hand I'd have wished for Blizzard to really create something new but we all know that's not going to happen, instead we'll most likely continue to see games like Hots. I guess I shouldn't have grown up at the time of games like HeXen, Painkiller, Quake and the rest of them. Only team based fps to me is going to be tribes, screw HiRez for ruining that great IP.

There are a bunch of arena FPSes coming out. It's not really a popular sub-genre, so I don't think it'll take off.
I think people want social team-based games. It's way less stressful and it's more fun to cooperate strategically than 1v1 refined skill.
And a game's scene can't grow if it doesnt reach some sort of popularity. I'm looking at Quake Live's 1k 24-hour peak and 300 current peak.
I wouldn't want to touch that market, either. That's doomed to failure.

Haven't seen anyone say they got an invite on reddit yet. I kind of expect them to push out after Tuesday Maintenance updates today.

Blizzard games eat each others playerbase though, so if one can popularize a genre its Blizzard. Especially since they usually bring something new to the table as well.
I loved when they talked about their Idea for Titan. And that you have to lead a normal live alongside being a hero. "okay lets test playing going to work" "wow work is really boring and tedious ... it feels like playing the grinding part of a MMO great!" "wait to many people will put 2 and 2 together and realize MMOs are a second job and we happen to have the biggest one, damn scrap Titan!"

Yeah yeah opinions and all that.
I have all UT games. I still play, even the new one. I don't at all whatsoever see how Overwatch can remind someone of it.
