Id advocate hero limits. Like 2 to a team. Or heck just drop down to 1. Blizzard should try enforcing it now while the players are still open to any ideas. Just to test out how it is. I cant imagine enjoying watching a pro game where its stacked of multiple heroes. Just seems dumb to spectate.

What are your thoughts on snake pick (possibly with ban phase?) for tournament play? It would certainly be different.

Snake pick meaning Team 1 drafts a hero, then Team 2 drafts 2 heroes, then Team 1 drafts 2 heroes, and so on. Hero lock is assumed, and a new draft takes place for each map.

pick phase is pointless with free hero switching and Blizzard is pretty intent on keeping that feature in.

Ban phase not a fan of either. Esp with again the hero picking. Having the players remember which are banned or not during the game is not something you want to do.

Doing a pre-game draft is definitely not a solution. Make it as simple as each team can play any hero as long as its just 1 copy. I really dont see a drawback to that. Its actually obnoxious as shit seeing multiple Tracers and Meis. Im sure Im not the only one who feels that way.

Restricting to 1 makes no sense in a game where you can choose any hero at any time. Basically, it just shouldn't always be correct strategy to have 3 doubles on your team, that indicates a balance problem, not a problem with hero selection.

EDIT: Added emphasis, there's no reason that some points/sections of the map shouldn't favor certain heroes, and there's similarly no reason why you shouldn't be able to double up those heroes for that particular part, so long as it isn't grossly imbalanced.

I think the game would be a mess. Even for the few days S76 was removed from the game the balance was completely out of whack. I was originally thinking pick/ban would be fun for OW but the absence of 76 changed my mind rather quickly.

Solution for what? What is even supposed to be the problem?

And the obvious drawback for your idea is that this means a limitation of possible team comps and strategies. Which is a problem in a game where you dont see too many in the first place.

Btw if anyone watches the Overkill tournament right now, team comps vary a lot and there are changes between and within maps. Also very few double heros.

Have invites gone out for the beta weekend yet? They said "Afternoon PST" and it's ~2:15 PM. Not a word from Blizzard so it doesn't seem so, but still, stressing over it.

In my opinion watching comp games with multiple heroes is not fun.

Nothing wrong with having multiples as such, the amount of mindless complaining about it is definitely the result of people getting used to one system with MOBAs and now wanting to see that everywhere.

Each system does have it's merits. Forcing uniques does seem like it would give you an easier time with balancing and give more variety. Not doing it could increase the depth of the game since there are more possible combinations.

I dont think its mindless. You ever had to offensive escort against Soldier 76s? Ever ran into guys who just Monkey'd up during overtime? Just how I feel. Game is still in deep beta so Im open to w/e they come up with.

edit: They removed the rarity glow on loot boxes. RIP.

I was referring to the fact that most of the complaints don't seem to come with any kind of rational arguments about why exactly, even though those may exist (I touched on some). And even with your issues, it could well not be the only way to solve the problem.

Here's my two cents on hero limits:

Blizzard has said time and time again that they want active hero swapping mid-match to be an integral part of the game play, similar to team fortress. If they are running into scenarios where certain characters are getting multiple spots on a given team, it seems like they should just go through balance iterations until people start picking healthy lineups.

Imagine if everybody in TF2 picked assault. Valve would be inclined to nerf assault. The same logic applies to Overwatch. As long as active hero swapping is an integral part of the game, this has to be the method of addressing multiple hero selection.

Another thing that's important to realize is that limiting heroes to unique status introduces a tier list where competitive teams will feel forced to "deny" their opponents certain heroes rather than form a unique strategy of their own. This works in moba games where there are hundreds of heroes, but in a pool size this small, it seems like it would get really stale, really fast. Then you factor in the casual perspective, where you want people to be able to play the heroes that they want to play. Having to spam genji at the start of the match if you want to play him would be a little volatile, and people who missed the opportunity would feel an urge to leave the game and join another where that hero is available.

I got the install button too and no email, installed but it couldn't find a server after starting the game.

So I'm hoping I did get an invite but the beta just isn't online yet, shall find out once I get home from work I guess.

Servers are online @7pm here in Finland iirc.
