Honestly, unless you like playing the game solo, the decision on whether you want to play or not depends mostly who you play with. I'm not replying specifically to you, but people in general who feel like that. Only reason i'm playing a month of it it's cause i got it gifted by a friend. It's not fun cause the guild he plays with (him as well) just go full foreigner all the time. Going from carrying guilds sort of competing for server firsts (on a mediocre server) to playing with a guild who raids and struggles with a tier behind is just not fun. If you have a solid group of friends you like playing with though, by all means play it imo. It looks funner than MoP to me and the Garrisons seem pretty interesting.

I can see how a power-leveler might be agitated by the lore-filled experience.

So basically with the profession buildings there is only "so much" materials you can make per day due to work orders taking 4 hours to complete. The more alts you have with the ability to produce the regents the more gear you make. I will be leveling my 3rd character to feed tailoring and blacksmith for my warrior and mage. They will make work orders and then produce an epic a piece each (1x cloth 1x plate) so that my mains can then produce 1 each and i have 2 epics instead of one etc. Thats all i meant xD

If you want to play protection just put your "loot" specialization as Protection (right click your name plate and set it) and your quest rewards should give you plate protection gear. Leveling as fury will probably be faster unless you have full prot gear. TLDR: Tiny difference of how fast you kill a mob maybe if your gear is bad, other than that no difference.

Then once you have enough materials you can make an epic, send it to your main.

However, the difference in gathering professions is very minor, unlike how they describe. I dropped mining because in the Lvl 2 garrison mine I was getting the same amount of materials with Draenor mining as an alt that didn't have mining at all. Obviously if you want to farm and AH materials, then you need a gathering profession. But if you're just trying to support daily cooldowns and work orders, the mine/garden in the garrison is more than enough come lvl2+
