Ahahahahaha, that's hilarious. Chess event: easiest free loot for a raid. Hardest boss to solo!
Even gunship wasn't as easy free loot as chess event. Hell, if it was the end of the raid night, and people wanted to go to bed, we'd still clear out the trash to the chess event just to collect the free loot.
I did the 10 day free trial for pandaria, but I can't go past level 85.
The vehicle combat in the first zone seems better than the attempts in wrath of the lich king though.
However, the mobs are way too easy. They just don't deal any damage to my druid, which makes it a bit boring. And why did they remove shred? I can't do fun combos out of prowl with pounce->shred and such when they remove it.

I haven't played in 2 1/2 years and I think my characters were stripped of their gear between then so I'm trying to have them restored, although since it's been so long I don't know if they will be able to. Blizzard customer service is usually very good, though.

Your characters shouldn't be stripped of the gear. They should still have everything just the way it was just as you left them.

I did the kara chess event a lot and found this to be a guaranteed strat to win solo

I do something entirely different and nothing like that except for the warlock part(I'm Horde). Interesting strat that is though
I just move the pawn in front of the warlock up one space to allow me to move my warlock up when he cheats and puts down fire. I exit the pawn and go into the warlock and just kill everybody. Its a rather slow strat but it works more often then not.

The ring was from the Northrend contest. Not entirely sure whether this not listing it means the Northrend contest still exists and you get the ring from there, or that the wiki hasn't been updated in ages.
