Anyways, I'm back guyz, I'm going to be posting more often now. Going to start catching back up.
On TL4: go with a nation draft. The general idea for a 3 man team is to have a good, diverse toolset. A good bless/scales from the "main" nation, and a good degree of early combat potential and magic from your disciples's, usually, and high dominion. I'm also going to be generating random maps (I'm doing that now to try and get a decently spacious map for a 12-man disciple game). Sure you can play with a team of like Vanheim/Eriu/Gath, but such a team is inherently too one-dimensional. A team should aim to be versatile, since disciples allows you to build balanced teams that can do everything well.
I'd also recommend an EA or MA game, just because it has the most potential for interesting team compositions and setups. Seriously.
LA Disciples has less strategic options. Everyone will just be scrambling to get LA Atlantis because it's the only effective nation with recruitable amphi- qualities (LA Atlantis massacres LA R'lyeh once Atlantis gets their first UW fort up for insanity immune commanders and S mages, great troops on land forts, and the other nations that really want to go UW don't have a readly-available option, like Jomon). While many LA nations are unique standalone, they don't offer dramatic differences in team comps because magic is weaker, armies are stronger, and by LA most of it is dependent upon Blood, Astral, or Death (BSoD).
For a bit of an AAR since some people requested something: it's not a TL game, but I'm in a MA Disciples game myself. We drafted Pangaea, TC, Vanheim (meeee~), and Atlantis, which leads to a highly complementary team (outside the lack of good, mobile astral mages for fucking armies and thugs except amazons; we're fighting Arco, Lemuria, Marignon, and Pelagia, starting this turn [79], I'm awaiting the mass mind hunts to ensue, o-gawd, although my research is through the roof; w/e, let's hope 20+ thugs simultaneously dropping on Arco will be too many for him to Mind hunt, and they all have AM Ammies so hopefully his astral income is too bottle-necked to have THAT many mindhunts..; plus pen items still means they should have a decent shot at living so we'll see).
We're already approaching endgame research (well, myself and Pangaea and TC: in a quick Eyes of God check before the caster got Oedipus'd, the score graphs showed we were ahead of everyone else by a metric fuckton in that department, TC now especially, and Dominion [and now that we have Gift of Nature's Bounty solidly up [holy crap it's so good for Vanheim, having excess gold on Vanheim is...is...<3; I have 6k in the bank lolol], I've put up a lab/temple in every province so that I can mass blood sac for a gigantic dom-push, to leverage the Dark Skies we have up now).
We are now in a 4v4v4 scenario (from the original 6 teams I believe); I'm hoping Gath and co don't mess with us quite yet, but we'll see, and on the bright side, only TC is actually hurt by the very spiteful Burden of Time the almost-dead Mictlan put up (and everyone else is hurt far worse: there's an Abysia, Lemuria, and Marignon in the game after all, christ I feel bad for them lol). As long as there aren't Tarts coming out yet (and I don't need to commit a difficult-to-replace mage to banishing them to Hell/Frozen Hell), this should be relatively easy on land (not sure how poor Atlantis is going to fare lol). Already paratrooping in a couple Leeches onto the angel thugs that Marignon's sent out.
I also kinda trolled since my pretender is a Master Dwarf with S4, 2FWEAND, B1, which has been quite silly I have to say, but effective for some early site searching, plus we ended up rolling (low) T/ (high) L for shits and giggles. Having a Steel Ovens (Const-20 bonus) was also super-lucky so hey.
Random comment: late game Vanheim is SO much better than Eriu (good lord do they fall off a cliff after a godly early/mid game).

Welcome back. I think you mean some other nation than Lemuria as Lemuria is only LA and doesn't care about Burden of Time.
|
Sceleria; their only important mage, Grand Thaumaturgs, are old as fuck and expensive/STR, despite having death magic out the wazoo on them: base age of ~60, on a human is painful. Marignon and Abysia have it worse, but Sceleria is basically entirely dependent on having as many Thaumaturgs reanimating hordes of longdead horsemen as possible. Also Astral/Death communions and major H3+ spells.
It's an MA game. They all use to be Ermor anyways so whatev :s

I don't care about Nation or era, I am really unexperienced in this game, so it doesn't matter so much what I get to play :D

Do we have a 12th player? If we do, I can start parsing out the teams with an RNG, and set up QTs for each team/coach assignments, etc.

QTs?
Could you explain this parsing process a little better? ^^

QTs? What coaches? Is there even a single player that agreed on doing that role and has enough time/reliability/experience? random teams? nation draft with a lot of beginners that consider themselves happy if they understand at least one nation per age?
Not wanting to to stop your sudden burst of activity, but I think it would be useful to at least talk to some of the players before... Like there is a Skypegroup with 8/10 TLG3 players... (of which I see most registered in TLG4)

Could you explain this parsing process a little better? ^^ Basically, I put you all in a list with a number each, then I use an RNG to sequence out the numbers. Teams of 3 formed.
I then may decide to look at the list and see if there's anything blatantly unbalanced about the teams, but given this is all a newbie game, I probably won't do anything anyways.
As we'll have 4 teams, I'll assign the two coaches two teams each, and I'll supervise and do supplementary coaching across all QTs (QuickTopics: TL mafia uses it for communication between coaches, mafia, and observers, so I'd figure I can import that: an example). I'd prefer to have 1 coach for 1 team, but unless we find a 4th coach that's unlikely, unless you want to do 4v4v4 (which is abit of a Mexican standoff), so this kind of setup sounds reasonable, and gives me the option of overseeing the different threads.
And you guys can post your team discussions after the game is over too, hue. Everyone wins.
After that, drafting will go, hm... 1234/4312/3241 (or something similar, idk yet, whatever is a relatively fair draft order). Or just pick your nations based on what you're familiar with, up to you guys as I'll only be handling the logistics.

I've never played MA so I have no experience in any nation. Anyway now that I've checked some info on them, Ashdod seems the most interesting.
|
I definitely like the idea of a nation draft
I'm not sure how the teams will work out but I'll juts trust in the process you guys decide. Everyone in our little community seems extremely chill so far. So whoever I get matched up with will be good.

oh xD murdering winter is best cast stacked (2-3). Also it's not as good against Caelum cause of them resisting cold ...

Anyways, for the Disciples game, while we wait for a non-prime number of players (someone else +1 this), can you guys put the following things to a vote?
Era: EA, MA, or LA Draft: y/n
I'll moderate and handle most everything else, but I believe that these are the primary sticking points. I would recommend Draft=Y and Era=not LA, but it's your game, I'm just helping manage the logistics. :s
Story events will be off, events will be common, and HOF=15 for the other settings.
Throne settings: 6 lvl1s, 3 lvl 2s, 2 lvl 3s, 12 throne points to win.
Right now it looks like 3 MA votes, 2 EA votes, and a bunch of no preferences.

If it makes any difference, I vote for the easiest era to play in, since I am a bit of a noob

Era EA Draft Y tho i would like to have draft after we create teams and get coaching input (probably obvious)
|
3 EA 3 MA
@ gTank: difficulty is variable depending on the nation in question, as opposed to the Era. MA Ulm for instance is straightforward with what it can do, as opposed to, say, MA Tien Chi.
