Hey Crazedrabbit89,
Hmm... I've never been big on 2v2s. Are you not interested in solo at all? I think Tchado plays some 2v2 from time to time, let's see if he comes back to you on the thread.
I could play with you when I have the time, though we'd have to settle on a server.
Long live WC3!

I'm playing on w3 arena right now if anyone would like to join me

Recently falling back in love with War3 after playing customs all through middle. Watching pro games a lot. What's the best youtube channel for vods? Most of these casters have really annoying voices.

I still play my favorite custom game Vampirism Beast on the weekends.

Most of these casters have really annoying voices. As far as caster's voice is concerned, I really like CrotaGaming channel. His casting is not always good because he sometimes casts while being tired/sleepy (it can be hard to find time for this stuff when you are married and have kids) and he occasionally makes mistakes in titles of his uploads, but I like most of them nonetheless. He's also fairly active and uploads new stuff on a regular basis.

I just watched the VODs of the seatstory finals, thanks for posting those. I was younger when WC3 was going on, my house had terrible internet so I could never play online or watch many VODs. I really wish I got to play this game more than against bots, I love its style of strategy. It's a shame Blizzard doesn't seem to be working on WC4, Frozen Throne was such a gem and had so many unique strategic elements

I wish I had more time to play

Hey guys I need your help
I might be participating in a 1v1 Turtle Rock random vs random tournament soon but I haven't played/watched wc3 FOREVER and I wasn't very good even back then but neither are the other participants. If you have some quick pointers for about strategy/heroes/creep routes for each MU I might have a pretty good edge! The tournament is later today so I don't have enough time to look into all of it myself :/

Hey Corr!
What race do you play? Listing every match-up would take quite a while...

That's the thing! We play Random vs Random =( If I could stick to just Orc v X it wouldn't be hard

Alright.
Let's see.
Orc vs. UD: that MU is pretty much always to the Orc's advantage, and I believe TR is an alright map, though it's not horrible for UD either. As an Orc, you can either creep or harass. I've only seen a few replays recently, but it seemed most Orcs decided to creep, as in do the orange and green spot by their base, then rush over to the Goblin shop to kill the troll that drops the tome in order to get an XP tome if you are lucky. Most Orcs sell their TPs to buy Circlets, as it helps, but I don't know that it's mandatory. Expands and orange/red creeping spots are quite easy to access on TR, so it's a creepjacking heaven. Once your BM is 3, you should use your army to creep while you scout and harass with your BM.
Orc vs. NE: that one is tougher, as NE generally has the advantage over Orc. However, there are not THAT many AoW creeps that you can do on TR very safely, aside from the aforementioned orange one by the base. Most good NEs walk the AoW up to the Goblin shop or to the natural expand, but some NEs also directly tank the goblin shop with a DH when they feel pretty safe that the BM isn't gonna come around. I feel like being aggressive with your BM while you do green camps with Grunts is worth it. After that, as with almost every Orc vs. NE match-up, you want to get your TC to 3 so you can use that wave (if he is going Druid of the Talon) or maybe get a SH to Hex if he is going Bears. I think it's important to scout the NE's base around T2 to see the strategy he's going for.
Orc vs. HU: I think TR is somewhat balanced vs Orc vs. HU, though the close position can be awful for Orc, as the HU can send 3-4 militia very early on to cancel a burrow. Otherwise, the BM can very easily creepjack the HU, which I feel you should do, as otherwise you'll be getting a massive AM 3 push fairly soon. It's also capital to get Boots before the AM does, preferably from the shop most close to the HU's base, forcing him to waste some time to go all the way around. If he doesn't have boots, he will at least have to TP while you chase him. I haven't seen many Orcs creep vs. HU on TR, though some do when they go FS. I think the standard is to harass with BM and go TC/SH to creep while you keep solid map control.
Orc vs. Orc: I have very little experience in Orc mirror, but I'd say getting a big fat BM is probably important, and TR is actually a somewhat decent map for that, that is if you know the spots. I think it's extremely rare for any Orc to harass before level 2-3 in a mirror on TR. Most people choose to try their luck with the Goblin shop XP tome thing, and generally for level 3 before making anything happen. I might be wrong, but I also thing Ensnare allows you to creep the red spot of the map very easily, as you can lure the creeps and kill one or two at a time by ensnaring them while they lose aggro. I'd say the SH is probably better than the TC, because Healing Wave and Hex are too much of a big deal.
General: overall, most people choose to go with BM over FS on TR, and either harass early on or creep to harass later. As I recall, most Orcs do try to get at least level 2 before really harassing. In any case, TR is a map that is pretty easy to creep, and it's fairly small. One of the key elements is to know your creeping route: most people start with the orange camp by the base (AoW creep for NE, you can put it pretty much right in front of the creeps - militia creep for Humans). Then they follow it up with the Goblin shop, and make it easier by luring the creeps out of the shop itself. This allows for a better vision when the ward spawns, and also glitches some creeps into resetting so that you don't have to fight them all.
Other players also do the natural expand with the three big turtles, but I think that's a Human thing. You can actually do it really quickly as soon as you finish the orange/green camps and ding level 2. You need 6 militias, and ideally two Water Elementals. The AI of the turtle is a little tricky: it always attacks whatever unit with the lowest HP in range. You usually have to dance around a little bit to spread out the damage more evenly, or simply retreat the low units. In any case, if nobody creepjacks you and steals a creep, you'll be level 3 after the creep, with possibly a good item (I think the items are Greater Potion of Healing, Greater Mana Potion, Wand of Mana Stealing, Sobi Mask(?) and some I don't remember). The best you can hope for is pretty much either Greater Potion.
As far as unit composition is concerned, Orc pretty much doesn't have to worry about it: Grunt/Raider/SW works wonders on TR. Most UD tend to rush Destroyer, because the map is small and it's tough to defend an expansion. NEs tend to rush T3 and go Bears/Dryads, or DoTs against Orcs, but even then not that much, because the map typically has a lot of narrow spaces, which you do not want against a TC. Humans tend to FE when they can (it's actually possible, you can do the red spot on the base next to you if the player doesn't spawn there - or you can do your natural, but it's MUCH harder to defend). After that, they either go mass casters/SB with T3 Mortars behind it, or T3 with AM/MK/Pala, and Knights/Gryphons/Gyrocopters.
I don't have that much time as I have to work, but I think that sums it up well.
Long live WC3!

Hey guys, never really played WC3 and I was wondering if I could get somewhat of an overview on what the races are like to play?
|
Ah, turtle rock. I always had a love-hate-relationship towards that map. It just plays completely different depending on the 3 different spawning possibilities. It's not just close vs non-close, but if your opponent spawns on the closer position on the other half of the map, whoever gets the ward at the goblin shop between the bases has close to a legal maphack.
All expansions are hard to creep early on, if a hu (or ne) tries fast expansion, a creepjack has the possibility to be decisive.
Special map-related tricks: UD can heal gargoyles on the islands behind the bases. I've seen nightelves occasionally extend their base towards the center of the map (after taking the expansion in front of your base), as the distance is really small, so essentially you're still only defending a single position. "Hidden" expansions are possible, you better keep scouting all game long. If you get siege units, you can destroy trees at several points to open new paths (works on other maps too, but I found this to be more effective than usual on TR, as the forest are really small and trees are the only thing that blocks paths; no cliffs, deep water etc.). Orcs can use peons to whack down trees from the outside of the forest towards the close position and build towers in range of the base unseen.

Hey mau5mat! Welcome to the thread.
I suggest you read the OP. It might be long, but there is a breakdown of all four races at the bottom, you just need to reveal the spoiler text to read it.
Long live WC3!

Recently played a bit of wc3 for fun again and i got to say, i never noticed how hard the bnet delay is in the past. Seriously, everything feels like playing with 200-300 ms with my normal ping of ~30ms. That is pretty much unplayable for me, or atleast not fun to play. I have looked into different servers and wonder, which one is the best? Should i stick with w3arena or is something like garena better? I was playing on northrend before

Hayo fellow warcraft players! I have been playing tonnes of maps but never even considered the "boring singeplayer ladder system" but I reckon that I was childish for thinking that and asked my clan for a walkthrough how to play decently.
They didnt wanna play with me of various reasons and they sent me hundreds of replays of their own matches. after watching one or two I realized they were boring as fudge.
I was wondering if anyone could teach me a bit with more ways than just sending videos Maybe Im lazy, but I would really appreciate a mentor of some sort!
David yo! Parbarz on Northrend(EU) dendummefan on Garena ask me on garena for skype.

Heya, I've recently got back into Warcraft 3 this time with an interest in actually playing competitive and not just custom maps as I did when I was younger, I played ladder here and there back then but always got stomped.
It has been a fun challenge running ladder trying to figure what I should actually be doing, I've been exclusively playing Night Elf.
I do decent in the early game, harassing or fighting off harass, taking a Demon Hunter or Warden and picking off workers, but once the mid game hits I always lose. I just can't seem to win fights, even when I mass bears and dryads like suggested, I get stomped pretty hard by the enemy team and not sure why, even losing to an army of mostly just riflemen. I micro my troops decent enough, but I still hardly put a dent in them, even if I won earlier engagements at tier 1.
So I'm mostly looking for night elf army builds and tips of what I should be doing, watching replays I mostly see bear dryads, but my bears go down pretty fast to orc tauren/shaman or knight/riflemen. Blademaster also just wrecks me hard early game, gets crits and two shots archers and wisp.
Also if anyone wants to play, I'm definitely looking for players to play from here and learn with, B.net: Sanger_Zonvolt
