that Stephano vs Grubby series was probably my favorite cast ever, cause of the funny details, interesting stories (about Stephano mostly, I didnt know he was so excentric) and memories the 3 casting exprogamers were bringing up, as well as Stephano being Stephano (overhearing Take say in his cast "focus the BM!", he then writes "SH has 180 mana idiot")
so much fun!

I voted ToD, and yes I am biased. He's a fellow Frenchman, but I always loved his play style anyway. He was one of the few people who could consistently beat Moon, so he definitely belonged in the top.

To be fair, Lyn is also a serious candidate. He had a long period when he dominated a lot of people and won a lot of tournaments.

Speaking of ToD beating Moon , I dont think any human player executed the mass tank strategy against NE as well as ToD did in this game

That strat is one of the most creative and cheap strats ever hahaha I'm always amazed by it. Thanks for the video

It seems the SeatStory Cup has given WC3 a little rise in popularity. It would be pretty funny if WC3 were to come back a little bit on the scene, similar to the way BW is coming back with a lot of pros retiring to return to their first game. I know I would enjoy it a lot if we were to get a regular SeatStory Cup.

That'd be a pretty ironic display of how good Blizzard used to be as opposed to now, hehe.

im watching the vods now , same thoughts exactly

A little more than a year ago I tried to pick up WC3 for the first time. I had a terrible time finding games with any consistancy. Among the options (bnet,garena,w3arena) what do people recommend for noobies (I realize there arent going to be many of us anywhere), and for finding consistant games in general?

edit: w3arena is back up it seems.

So I try go to www.waaaghtv.com and wow, it's still working! (although the last site update was in 2009)

Streaming technology has come a long way but I still remember the joy of watching AND observing the game at the same time with zero lag whatsoever back then

Yeah, WTV was good times. Back when streaming wasn't a thing, we had to make due with WTV and shoutcasting with no video, it was kind of like watching a soccer match on mute while listening to the radio.

@sheaRZerg, hey, welcome to the thread!

I'm surprised to hear you say you tried BNet and couldn't find games consistently. I think that even when you reach the high ranks, you still find games somewhat fast. For w3arena it's understandable, especially if you live in the US, as I believe most people there are from EU, making the time difference a little iffy.

Nonetheless, I think if you were to give BNet another shot, it'd be just fine. Whenever I play, I have no troubles finding a game, truly. It never takes more than 3 minutes. BNet is also the best place to play if you consider yourself a noobie. There are some decent players high in the ranks, but the level of play is otherwise much lower than what it used to be, and you'll be fine as a beginner.

I think you should try it once more, go on BNet and log on Azeroth or Lordaeron, and do play some good old WC3!

Perhaps I was trying at off hours or something. Because I was getting longer wait times and I was certainly not high level. The latency I experienced on Bnet also really bugs me (though at my level I'm sure it doesn't really matter). I will give them a try, perhaps I was just a bit unlucky and gave up too fast last time.

So I just stumbled in here to see if anyone still played those badass wc3 customs, and I ended up watching some of the wc3 games. They're highly enjoyable, and I'd love to see more, does anyone recommend me any games?

The delay will be there for sure. However, I've really never had troubles finding a game, even late at night. Have you tried again?

Hey PiPoGevy,

You'll find a list of available servers in the OP, along with a ton of other information. The BNet servers are still up and running, and very much a viable option to play. The lag will be there, and you might stumble upon a few hackers depending on the server (they are most prominent on Northrend, from what I know), but you'll have no troubles finding games, and the conditions are quite nice for a beginner.

If you have more of an intermediate to good level, you should try out w3arena. It's a small private server, and it has servers in EU and NA. There are a few hundred people who play on it, meaning the ladder isn't all that meaningful, as you're likely to meet just about anybody regardless of their ranks (or yours). The level of play is definitely higher than BNet, but the lag is non-existent, and it makes for some fun games.

There's also GArena, which is nice for custom games between players (we use it for this thread whenever people want to play against one another or organize some games, though myself I haven't had the time to play, sadly...). It's also nice and solid, has little to no delay, but the community is fairly small and I don't know the quality or the quantity of the ladder games.

Lastly, there's YY, by far the most active server, but it's located in China, so unless you are in Asia, you'll have some spikes and lags, which isn't optimal. I tried to play on it myself (I live in Canada), and while I had no delay, there were some nasty spikes. If you can play on it, I definitely recommend it, as there is a ton of players on it, and the level is challenging too, with some of the best players around in the top ladder (Lucifer and the likes).

All in all, you have options, it just depends on your level of play and your location.

Long live WC3!
